Repair Tesla battery for 1€ - 1 Cell Extraction

  • Model S with BMS_U018 is not our first visitior with same defect. One brick with fast self discharging requires fast respond, and we immediately starter battery pack measurements and decided to go with 1 cell extraction.
    Cell successfully traced and extracted, and pack successfully restored to original working condition.
    For purposes to troll diesel fans, we did this repair for 1 euro, no jokes.

      @@evclinic I should've been more clear. I watched the video and saw it wasn't a new cell. It is however a new cell to the old pack, even if it is already from a uses pack. It shouldn't matter how old the cell is. What matters is that the new im whatever way aged cell will always have worn differently to the rest of the cells in the pack to be repaired. Thus it will drift again. Maybe this repair will be longer lasting than module swapping since it only affects a smaller amount of BMS'd cells and might stay under the thersholds. However I still doubt this will last 8 years.
      I guess it also doesn't matter for most companies doing this since they don't offer the kind of warranties like Tesla or 057 Technology.

    🤔 instead of replacing the cell. Can you just isolate it? Would that work..

    • @evclinic
      @evclinic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It would work, but if that brick is with lowest CAC (Ah) then your pack will lose 3Ah of capacity. Which is equivalent of 4.8KM of range. It will increase strain on brick during charge and discharge by 1.35%, might decrease charge speed and will increase posibility of premature repeated failure. In most cases should hold above 2 years. It is easiest type of repair.

  • @rhiantaylor3446
    @rhiantaylor3446 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I am surprised you removed the cell physically, I had expected you would leave it in place but simply disconnect the positive terminal of the problem cell from the rest of the block. • @evclinic

      Problem is more that 1.3% if you are taking it out from lowest CAC brick. We road testet 18 months several cars with 1 cell failure / repair and it is sustainable. But there are several rulles which you need to apply. First one: you cant put new cell….

      The problem cells are not dead (disconnected from the pack), but rather they have a small internal short, which slowly drains that entire brick. You can use CAN data to find the brick (the brick who’s voltage is dropping), then since all that energy it being turned into heat inside that one cell, an accurate thermal imaging camera can see it. Or maybe they made a miniature clamp meter for the fuse wire. Lol
      Another famous repair shop merely cuts the fuse wire, which allows the battery to work normally, but with 2% less capacity.
      EV clinic goes a step further and replaces the bad cell to restore its capacity back to the expected capacity for its age.
      Both processes are rather intensive, and almost the same amount of work.
      Remember this is a bandaid to allow the entire battery to keep functioning until the next cell gets an internal short thats too weak to blow the fuse wire or CID. For a fraction of the cost of a new battery, you are back on the road.
      Replacing the entire module would only be slightly better than cutting out or replacing one cell because the odds are the next cell to have this type of failure would be in once of the other modules.
      Totally dead cells can also be found with thermal imaging by fast charging and discharging that module and find the cold cell. Normally they don’t do this because 1 dead cell is not a big deal. But one self-discharging cell that is still connected can be a major problem.

      Not true. That is Myth sold by incompetent “experts”.
      1 cell extraction road tested and still driving, with proper measurements of old and exchange same cells with same internal resistance and CAC repair works perfectly.

    The first: You can’t compare a pack to 3x expensive pack.
    Second: Leaf has most repaireple pack and they do it by dealers carage so there is no need for special arrangement.
    And it’s also the cheapest one to repair by dealer or replace, whatever Teslaquys tried to tell to you.
    You can show me also how to repair or rebuild last genereation Teslapacs. Yes, with that messy spray insulation means no repair at all. One bad cell and to the crusher. Tesla has the complicated batterypacks for thrue.
    I am a batterypack builder, from scratch also, so i know what i’m saying and you simply use thermal camera to hunt those bad cells. Leaf pack technician needs to use only phone aplication to find a bad cell.

    • @evclinic
      @evclinic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Leaf is the worst pack ever produced, most degraded and big safety issue because cells inflate. OEM repairs them by mixing cells and it cant hold for any reasonable period of time. In UsA they recall them. Second, leaf battery is 2-3x more expensive then tesla pack in OEM

    You dont say how to find the defect cell. You dont say how to change the cell. Yout dont say how old the car is and dont say how much km it has. Not very much Informations from this Video.

      For any advanced technician there is enough breadcrumbs to replicate it. Everything else is our business secret. Topic was cell extraction, not bicycle production or car reselling. If there is not much information for you please unfollow. In short video i mentioned it is 2013 P85 with 260000km

    The filling of the chemistry cells is made of the same material. It seems to me that this is a stupid job, since the next week or month you need to change more cells.

      Not stupid job, we have 10 cars already driving. It is stupid to change one if you dont have equipment to test all of them.

    so every 2 years your car will be off the road to get defective batteries replaced...and who is going to pay for that...TESLA? Insurance (good luck with that one) or the customer?
    How many days does it take you to remove and find the faulty batteries, replace them and refit??
    seriously, who is going to accept that as a viable proposition??

    • @evclinic

Ovo nije popravka i neće trajati.

    Doing something like this in the old days required lots of notes and metering on old Nicad aircraft batteries packs, couldn’t imagine that many cells you deal with, you definitely need a computer to keep track of that many batteries cells. At least you don’t have to worry about fluid levels.
