tractor and here are my first attempts to bleed fuel through the system and hopefully, start the engine. Let's see what happens...

Starter fluid and starter sounds like it needs to be shimmed good luck brother I just got mine to crank up for 5-6 seconds

I finally got this old tractor to start! It did take some starter fluid but the real fix was cleaning out the fuel pressure regulator (located in the end cover for the lift pump). Take Care and stay in touch.

I was really hoping it would start. Getting fuel to some of the injectors is a good step forward

There are a few issues that I discovered that will be revealed in upcoming videos that may be preventing a start. Nobody wanted this thing to start more than me...It's been a long road to bring this tractor back from the brink...it will start eventually...stay tuned.

You know this isn’t my area of expertise by any means Craig but I know Marc is a mechanic so anything he suggested I agree 😂. This is a crazy project and I’m confident it won’t be long and you’ll have it going Brother!

It'll go. Between last time and now, the engine sounds better when cranking over. I don't hear that stuck valve or rings or whatever was going on that I think I heard before. It'll go and it'll be great!

It is certainly moving fuel through the pump now. There was no fuel leaving the pump before the rebuild and now it is making an appearance. The next few videos will show me checking the static timing and injection pump timing, setting the valve clearances and treating the cylinders with Seafoam. There is also a couple of discoveries that surprised me...things I hadn't thought about or noticed while trying to start the engine. This particular video was filmed in late May just before moving out of my shop so I soon afterward began other necessary tasks for the move. But this tractor project is still very much alive and I will be bringing more content to the channel very soon. In one of the first videos to follow this one, the engine ran for about 10 seconds on its own after cranking, so it has all the parts acting in sync. It will go. And I will take everyone along on the journey to see all the things I did and what I discovered, real soon. I want to do a compression test but I don't have the special adaptor for these pencil-style injectors. A compression test would be good to have and is something I have been wondering about. I think the initial starting problems were related to stuck rings and low compression but that seems to have improved. It doesn't seem to be a valve (either burnt or stuck). In between work sessions on the engine, I soak the cylinders in Seafoam and I think that is helping. We'll see.

You should have fuel spraying from those loose fittings like an aerosol can. I don't think your getting enough fuel. Although the smoke coming out of the pipe would indicate fuel is going through. I would be giving it a sniff of ether to at least kick it over. If it won't stay running than you may just not be getting enough fuel in.
    Until next time ✌

Yes, you're right. I did eventually try ether and it fires up but I don't like to use it. I have found a few other problems (and leaks that may explain the low fuel delivery). I have been busy with other projects but will be getting back to this tractor soon. I am soaking the pistons and rings with Seafoam while the engine is waiting for me. I pulled the injectors and poured about 200 ml of Seafoam into each cylinder in early July. I'm going to blow that out and try to start the engine in the next few weeks. Stay tuned. I'm hoping Seafoam may help restore some compression. This tractor sat outdoors and abandonded for about 17 years before I came along and tried to bring it back.

@@OpenAirOutdoors Those are the pictures at the very end of the video of the tractor when I bought it. Tough shape and given up for dead. It is making a S-L-O-W comeback!

It'll go someday...it just needs attention after sitting out in the woods by itself for all those years. The fuel inside the injection pump was gummed up and so was the fuel in the lines and tank. that has now all been cleaned out, so my next steps are to get the rings freed up. I've been soaking the piston tops with Seafoam. It is known to help clean and free up stuck parts.
