Smells like engine oil. The level of ATF in the transmission hasn't changed plus it's impossible for the two to mix. There's no way for one to get into the other (believe me, I thought that one through). I looked at the maintenance record I keep, and Castrol Edge was first used in this engine in March 2024. That's the last oil change. I looked up "Castrol Edge Turns Oil Red", and there are several threads where it outlines this exact result. Here's one such comment: #1 · Jul 26, 2023 "I've previously owned a Volvo c30 2009 and used Castrol Edge 5w-30 full synthetic and noticed after I did the oil change it was red that oil is yellow in nature now I own a 2003 Volvo S60 2.4 non turbo and used the same oil and after driving for a while I get a change oil notice about 1,000 miles ahead of schedule check the oil on the stick and it's Bright Red like transmission fluid" It's the nature of that oil, it seems. Glad it wasn't anything serious. I'll continue using the Castrol Edge Full Synthetic and will certainly do an update video somewhere in the future. Take care!

Hi Jamie. It was a learning curve for me and the blue hand!

I looked up the maintenance record I keep for the Volvo and I see that in March of 2024 I changed the oil and put Castrol Edge 5W-30 into it for the very first time. Before that I was using Mobil full synthetic 5w-30. The Castrol Edge is therefore responsible for the cleaning of the varnish and the resulting color change of the sump oil. It was quite a surprise and I'd never heard of this phenomenon before. An old dog like me just learned a new trick! Thanks for watching, Kenny. All the Best!

@@OpenAirOutdoors It had me stopped! I hadn’t ever suspected that detergent could do such a thing. Castrol, I hear, is the only oil approved for Volvo.

@@GardenTractorBoy Yes it was curious 🧐 Some manual transmissions take ATF too believe it or not. Because of its chemistry.

Not much I can do about it now. I hope it cleans out every bit of varnish that it dislodged . At the end of the day, ATF does have very good lubrication properties. Fingers crossed. Thanks Noel, What happened to the tractor?

Nothing. Just needed to replace the seal. Was not my tractor. I was just sorta helping. He was noticing the fluid going down in the power steering. He’d fill up. Then go down. Then checking the engine oil noticed it was up. So a bit of figuring, new seal. And all was fine.

@@noelstractors-firewood57 I'd bet that the power steering fluid didn't hurt the engine but cleaned things out a bit. There's always another surprise for mechanics. How's the weather down there? It's been raining like hell out here on the coast!!!

I just about fell over the other day when I saw how completely red the oil was! I thought it was ATF for sure. Lucky it wasn't

Yes, transmission fluid, in itself, is a great cleaner and I've heard about people using it to help remove sludge, and even as a rusted-nut-remover. But when I saw my engine oil had turned red, I wasn't very happy Luckily, it was just the high-detergent capability of Castro Edge that was responsible.

I even thought (briefly) that it was sabotage, ha ha but who could it be? Everyone loves me LMAO I was very surprised to read online that engine oils can do this. I will forevermore be using Castrol Edge. Expensive but worth every penny! Thanks Doug for coming along for the adventure!

I looked it up, and Castrol Edge IS a very high detergent oil. It gets in there and cleans small passages and gets the varnish off of old engines. It had me worried!!

When I started seeing a red tinge to the oil on the dipstick, my worries began. And when the oil went FULL ON RED I was like...OH CRAP! But with a calm mind, steady hand and help from my beautiful sister, it all worked out well.

The oil change interval is OK. I will not change it any sooner than 3000 mile (5K), but at least I'll know what the red color is next time! I thought for sure that ATF had gotten in the oil somehow. Whewww!

This was the second wind and rain storm this week. The first one knocked out power extensively. We ran our generator for 1 1/2 days and relied on our wood burning stove for heat. This is "The New Normal."

The tent shelter got torn off overnight--another project to do! The windy, stormy weather is increasing worldwide!!

Yes, Ben, We got walloped earlier in the week and tonight we are ready for another storm. Our power was off from Tuesday evening until 2 am Thursday! It was generator, wood stove and movie time. This one, however, won't be as powerful.

Thank You! This pump eventually worked. There was a fuel pressure regulator piston inside the end cap that I missed on the rebuild. It was stuck and prevented the pump from passing fuel. This does have an "After Smell" for a few days, but airing out the vehicle really helped. Within a week, the car was so fresh you'd think it was new! Thanks for watching and commenting, Ben. All the Best!

The "fresh Linen" smell this product leaves behind is much diminished in a few days. It's important to air the car out well after the treatment. Also, make sure there are no squirrels under the seats for best results.

They improve the smell of the car's interior once the french fries, old hamburger bits, dead possums and other waste material are cleaned from the car. Without the prep of cleaning out the car first, these products can only do so much. That's why it's important, Jason, to make sure there are no dead possums under the seats first.

Yes, he's an amazing guy! He's now 94 and still doing this stuff in 2024!

@@PinetreeLine This took care of a musty odor and returned the car interior to a like- new smell. I think the secret is in the air recirculating through the vents, removing nasty smells that would linger in the ventilation system.

@@tinkeringtaylor3053 I wanted to get as much air moving as possible through the car because the treatment leaves a very strong initial smell. It’s important to let it air out thoroughly before driving. Notice that I opened all doors and windows before even turning the car off.

And it worked! There was a musty smell in this car and after it aired out, there was just a fresh, clean smell of fresh laundry.

Got it at Canadian Tire ($18). It worked very well and left the car smelling fresh and new!

@@waynezuccarello9698 Yes, to some degree. Depending on how loose. It is driven by gearing and dependent on the backlash between the gears. Of course, really loose would indicate worn gears, some play is expected. Once the shaft mates with the pump it is held steady.

@@danielcameron7316 Sounds like you may have had some water in the fuel? Use a diesel fuel conditioner like Kleen-Flo regularly in the tank.

Baby Balonoes in their nest are some cute, I agree. I feel very fortunate to have seen them with my own eyes! Yes, Mike, it's difficult to give up hunting the wild baloney, but there's still the farm-raised ones at Sobeys. Also, if you continue to hunt the wild ones, I'll just help myself to some of the frozen ones in your deep freeze. What are friends for, right? Agreed, my sister has some of the nicest armpits around, in fact, I think she has had as many as 12 requests for marriage and a few for casual dating since the video was released. It's no surprise; She's such a Looker! My Uncle encouraged me to step back for a while and who doesn't appreciate the advice he gave me? My Grampa will take a bit more convincing and because of his fiery temper (and quick hand on the frying pan) I'll be staying away from his place for a while. It'll all work out, after all, we're family--and we all look alike too.

It was a difficult decision for me but with the kind support of my uncle Jack and my beautiful sister, I was able to make the leap. Not only that, the baby Balonies can gain a pound of weight a day until they're weaned at ten days. They are then free to leave the nest and start their own families. This nest had newborns, not more than a few hours old. Amazing to see them. No wonder the parents were so tired out.
