  • There is a big debate going on in acts 15. How much of the law do you have to keep or how Jewish must you become to be a follower of Jesus. Jesus is the Jewish messiah. Must you convert to Judaism to come to faith in Christ.

God is good and so are His commandments. We obey because we love Him, not as a prerequisite for salvation.

Galatians is about is it required.
No it's not required but it is beneficial if we keep the law.
And Corinthians always bothered me because
CUTTING OFF THE FORESKIN OF THE FLESH IS A COMMANDMENT.
This is coming from an uncircumcised man.

What strangled food should we avoid as Christians?

    • @BranchTogether

There are no food restrictions for Christians. For early Christians there was an accommodation if people had conscience impacted by Old Testament laws, but today we don't have to worry about that!

Acts 15 starts with the reason for the letter.
Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
So immediately we see that they were teaching a false gospel, by relating circumcision to salvation. Salvation is only through the righteousness of Jesus Christ, but that doesn’t void God’s perfect and eternal laws. This teaching is about how the law of God means nothing until your heart is properly circumcised, thus salvation doesn’t come by the law, but by the One who perfectly fulfilled it, to the point of death on the cross!
God puts no difference between Jew and Gentile and never has. Anyone can look back at Israel (the Nation) and see even the twelve tribes were not of a pure race. God has always had one way to the Father of us all. Genetics has nothing to do with the Jews or the Gentiles; it has always been a matter of the heart. The Law of God is for HIS people who love HIM!
    True Israel explained:
Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed (True Israel), and heirs according to the promise.
Act 15:9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
In the past they looked to the cross, and for us we are looking back at the cross.
Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation hath appeared to all men, Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope (His return), and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Tit 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Tit 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Verse 5 is referring to verse 1. Circumcision = Salvation (Wrong)
Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
Does anyone think that you can “go into the entire world, and preach the gospel…” by trying to first start by saying salvation comes through circumcision? Who would listen to you? You must always start with the milk of the Word before you can try to have them eat meat, also that our salvation is through Jesus by our faith that accesses His grace (Rom. 5:2, Eph. 2:8). Nowhere in Acts or elsewhere does it say God’s eternal and perfect law has been abolished or that it is just for the Jewish race, in fact Jesus and Paul, along with others teach the opposite.
The doctrines of men have led many into a false understanding, and because most don’t thoroughly study His Word ever to discover Truth. Many Bible translations came from Hort and Wescott, who greatly perverted the Hebrew and Greek definitions, and they were “anti-Christ”! Today’s teachings in the church are fairly new, and began around 150 years ago.
One thing you can always trust is the Words of Jesus to give you the Truth by what He said!
Understand that they are “writing unto them” in this next verse (20). That they first leave their religious practices (…pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.) Then they will learn the law of God (Torah) on every Sabbath Day, where the law of God is taught in the synagogues. Besides, so then is murder, adultery, drunkenness… now OK?
Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that (The starting point) they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. Act 15:21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day.
    Jesus teaching the same thing!
Mat 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat (the reading of the Torah/Law every Sabbath in the synagogues): Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

      @ Ron Evartt ,
ACTS 15:1-41 , " 1.And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
( Circumcision means to remove something . In the covenant with Abraham , it is the removing of the flesh of foreskin ; which is the completion of the creation started by God , on the first day that man was formed . Man was created in the image and likeness of God , but every other creature was made in their kind . Man was made from the dust of the ground , GOD IS NOT . God is teaching man how to become the kind . On the eighth day of man's creation , the flesh and blood of the earth will be removed , and man will become the kind .
1 Corinthians 15:49-53 , " 49.And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality ".
This covenant was not with Abraham and his seed only , but the stranger bought with his money , not of his seed .
GENESIS 17:9-14 , " 9.And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.10This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.11And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.12And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.13He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.14And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
IN GENESIS 17:13-14 , " 13He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.14And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
THIS IS ALSO FOR THE STRANGER/GENTILES WHO HAST BECOME THE SEED OF ABRAHAM BY A PRICE .
ACTS 20:28 , " 28.Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
GALATIANS 3:26-29 , " 26.For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
THE CIRCUMCISION OF FLESH OF FORESKIN IS AN EVERLASTING COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM , HIS SEED AND
THE STRANGER PURCHASED WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS .
Biblical circumcision means to make clean .
The circumcisions for the cleaning of sin went through the two mediators of the covenant between the Father & the children of Israel .
The circumcision of the heart/spirit is a sin sacrifice of atonement through faith , through the mediator Jesus Christ ; which is repenting of your sins , then believing by obedience ; which is keeping your mediator Jesus Christ commandments ; which he received from the Father .
People forget that there was also a sin sacrifice of atonement through works , for the flesh/body ; which the God of Israel gave through the mediator Moses ; which was called the law of animal sacrifice and oblations , or circumcision of flesh/body for sin . Moses , like Jesus was the mediator/husband/protector/covering , for the one's under the covenant between the Father .
The key word the brethren used is SAVED ! To be saved means to be redeemed , or forgiven or justified ( made clear ) of all your past sins ; which requires a sin sacrifice of atonement ; which comes under a priesthood .
The sin sacrifice of atonement of works ( animal sacrifice & oblations ) came under the mediator Moses , through the priesthood of Leviticus ; which was not of faith ; which clean your flesh/body , not your heart/spirit . The Father requires a clean heart/spirit to be accept by him .
Psalm 51:16-17 , " 16.For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.17.The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise " .
The circumcision as of the manner of Moses is not the circumcision of flesh of foreskin , the everlasting covenant through Abraham ; because Moses did not circumcise his own child of foreskin ; also no males were circumcised of the foreskin after leaving Egypt , until the LORD told Joshua to have them circumcised of foreskin before they entered the land of Israel ( Joshua 5 ) . The circumcision as of the manner of Moses was the circumcision of flesh/body for sin ; to clean the flesh/body , not the heart/spirit . )
2.When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
( Paul and Barnabas did not agree with the men from Judaea . The mother church was located in Jerusalem . The church is the covenant between the Father and the children of Israel , or the Woman ; with believing Gentiles grafted into this covenant through faith . The seven Churches in Asia were the remnant of the woman Israel , or the church , before Judaea was destroyed in 70 A.D. . )
3.And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
( Romans 2:11-15 , " 11.For there is no respect of persons with God.12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.14For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another " .)
4.And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
( Acts 14:25-28 , " 25.And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:26And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.27And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.28And there they abode long time with the disciples " . )
5.But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
(The sect of the Pharisees which believed that the sin sacrifice of atonement of the heart/spirit through faith , goes through the mediator Jesus Christ ; not the blood of the animals & oblations )
( The children of Israel continued in the sacrifices & oblations for the cleaning of the body ; when it becomes unclean due to touching a dead body , woman on her monthly , etc ... , but not for sin ; this came through the mediator Moses ; but the Gentiles were never under these sacrifices & oblations . )
6.And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
( There was much discussion pertaining to what was required of the Gentiles )

7.And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
( Matthew 16:13-19 , " 13.When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven " . )
( Acts 10:1-5 , " 1.There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,2A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.3He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.4And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.5And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter " . )
      8.And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
( Romans 8:1-2 , " 1.There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death " . )
9.And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
( Romans 10:17 , " 17.So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God " . )
10.Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
( THIS YOKE IS HAVING THE GENTILES GO THROUGH THE CIRCUMCISION OF FLESH/BODY , OR THE ANIMAL SACRIFICE & OBLATIONS FOR THE CLEANING OF THE FLESH/BODY , WHEN IT BECOMES UNCLEAN . )
11.But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
( Mark 1:14-15 , " 14.Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel " . )
( REPENTING OF YOUR SINS WITH A SORROWFUL HEART LIKE KING DAVID , THE BELIEVING BY OBEDIENCE ; WHICH IS KEEPING YOUR MEDIATOR JESUS CHRIST COMMANDMENTS ; WHICH HE RECEIVED FROM THE FATHER ; THE LAW OF FAITH .)
12.Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
13.And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
14.Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
( Acts 10:34-36 , " 34.Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.36The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all " .)
15.And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
16.After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
17.That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
( Amos 9:11-12 , " 11.In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:12That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this ".)

18.Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
( Ephesians 3:1-6 , " 1.For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,2If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:3How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,4Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)5Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;6That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel ". )
19.Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
( THE GENTILES WOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO GO THROUGH THE CIRCUMCISION OF FLESH/BODY , OR THE ANIMAL SACRIFICES & OBLATIONS , FOR THE CLEANING OF THE BODY . )
20.But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
( THESE WERE THE MAJOR PAGAN PRACTICES OF THE GENTILES IN TIMES PAST ; THEY WOULD LEARN ALL THE GOD OF ISRAEL LAWS ...... )
21.For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
( IN THE SYNAGOGUES EVERY SABBATH DAY , WITH THE BELIEVING ISRAELITES ; SO WHEN DID THE SABBATH CHANGE TO THE FIRST DAY -SUNDAY ; REMEMBER THIS IS LONG AFTER JESUS CHRIST DEATH AND RESURRECTION . WE ARE UNDER THE CONVENANT THROUGH CHRIST NOW . )
22.Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
( These men were deep in the faith of the God of Israel . )
23.And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:
24.Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
( THESE WERE THE MEN FROM JUDAEA WHO SAID : " EXCEPT YE BE CIRCUMCISED AFTER THE MANNER OF MOSES , YE CANNOT BE SAVED " ; WHICH IS THE CIRCUMCISION OF FLESH/BODY , OR THE LAW OF ANIMAL SACRIFICE & OBLATIONS , FOR THE CLEANING OF THE FLESH/BODY , WHEN IT BECOMES UNCLEAN . )
25.It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26.Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27.We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
      28.For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
( THE HOLY GHOST OR HOLY SPIRIT IS THE ANGEL OF GOD'S PRESENCE ; WHICH BRINGS UNDERSTANDING OF GOD'S WORD ; WHICH IS ALSO THE HOLY GHOST OR SPIRIT . )
( John 6:63 , " 63.It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life " . )
( Isaiah 63:7-10 , " 7.I will mention the loving kindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.8For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.9.In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.10But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them " . )
( Acts 5:1-10 , " 1.But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband ". )
29.That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
( Gentiles most practice customs )
30.So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:
31.Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
( The Gentiles were circumcised of heart/spirit the same way as Abraham , not going through the circumcision of flesh/body , or the animal sacrifices & oblations ; they were circumcised through faith to righteousness , not ever gone through works . )
( Romans 4:6-17 , " 6.Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,7Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.9Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.10How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.11And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:12And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.14For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:15Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were " . )
( Romans 5:13-14 , " For until the law sin was in the world : but sin is not imputed when there is no law . Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses , even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression , who is the figure of him that was to come " ) .

      What is sin ?
      Answer ,
1 John3:4 , " 4.Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Paul stated that until the law ( what law ? ) , sin ; which is the transgression of the law of God was in the world ( sin came into the world when Adam transgressed against the law of God ) , but sin ; which is the transgression of the law of God is not imputed ( represents something undersirable as been done , caused , or possesed by someone ) when there is no law .
This law is not the commandments/instructions of God ; which includes all the covenants , but a sin sacrifice law that came at the time of Moses ; the law of animal sacrifice of works ; which was not of faith , but works ; ministered through the priesthood of Leviticus " . )
32And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
( prophet [ˈpräfət] NOUN prophets (plural noun) · Prophets (plural noun) a person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the will of God."the Old Testament prophet, Jeremiah" )
33And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
34Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
35Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
36And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
38But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
      39And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
40And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
41And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches
( ALL THE CHURCHES GAVE THE SAME DOCTRINE , COMIMG FROM THE MOTHER CHURCH IN JERUSALEM ; WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DOCTRINES TODAY , PROFESSING TO GIVE YOU THE SAME WORDS OF THE GOD OF ISRAEL ? )
      SHALOM !

If the law was done away with then why are they told to Abstain from things Strangled, From Blood , Sexual Immorality etc etc? Isn't that following Torah ?

Wouldn’t Peter have been the leader since he was the first Pope. And since Jesus founded His Church on Peter?

I think Simeon = Peter in this chapter. Simeon is the Hebrew first name of Peter and was being referred to that way because they were in Jerusalem.

    (1) The people who brought the circumcision requirement were believers in Jesus but raised it thinking it was a requirement based from Genesis 17 which is a misreading of the text.
    (2) The other issue was that physical circumcision by itself was a burden that they (jews) could not follow. Paul was blameless with the observance of law but struggled with his flesh nature. Moses, Joshua and Caleb and all the people who were born in the wilderness obeyed all God’s commandments including circumcision before entering the promised land (Joshua 21:44, 24:31). God gave them complete rest on all sides as they have pleased God. In fact they were zealous of the things of God that the rest of Israel was preparing to wage war with tribes of Reuben, Gad, half tribe of Manasseh in Joshua 22:15-30.
    (3) Law of Moses is not the property of the Jews but God’s and those who embrace His Laws, His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances are His people (Exodus 19:5-6, Leviticus 26:3-12).
    (5) The Law of Moses was given to both the descendants of Jacob and the mix multitudes equally and God called them as His Armies and ALL as Sons of Israel TWICE (Exodus 12). It was the first “jew and gentile” mega-mega gathering for the next 40 years then all the way to the promised land- Canaan.
    (6) The term “Jew” is a term first appeared in II Kings 16:6. This has been used erroneously as simply direct descendants of Israel and thus over time associates Law of God to Jews alone. This is far from the truth. Law of God was given to the Sons of Israel which comprised of the house of Jacob and the mix multitudes (Exodus 12).
    (7) The four things that James decided for the entering Gentiles to begin to observe were meant for living a holy (set apart) conduct for verse 21 says that they will hear “Moses read in every city in synagogues every Sabbath”. They were therefore observing five Laws of Moses right at the beginning and the rest will be learned over time. Paul warns TWICE in Galatians 5:19-21 that those who practice sexual immorality will not inherit God’s kingdom. Jesus says in Revelation chapters 2 and 3 that those who practice sexual immorality and eat foods sacrificed to idols will face His wrath or if they do not repent their names will be removed from the book of life.
    (8) Salvation is by faith alone in Jesus through grace for both jews and gentiles and NEVER in addition to Law (Moses) observance or good deeds (outside of law of Moses).
    (9) Jesus then transforms the person into a new clean vessel (ie. new wineskin so new wine may be poured in and it will not burst). But then if they only partly embrace Jesus it will fail just like ‘tearing a new unshrunk patch and put it on the old garment, the unshrunk patch will tear the old garment’.
    (10) The Holy Spirit is the one who teaches, guides, enables, fills up the new vessel with new wine such as the four things that James decided in behalf of the Jewish believers and the gentiles entering the faith.

First and foremost the four things James said for them to no longer do are all from the Torah the very thing you say they were ruling against this chapter is talking about being saved not the Law of the Father.

Romans 10:9-10 “9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
The Catholic Church is Jesus’ Church that He literally founded. John 6:53-59 “53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.” In the Mass, which is the Catholic version of church service, the bread and wine literally become His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity! God bless you! Maybe this could help! The Mass and the Eucharist and the Sacraments really do help and work. I pray you will come to Jesus and His Church! th-cam.com/video/jJCbCs-y1_k/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/YMIdVntKr8c/w-d-xo.html
