    I don't get the technique. So you're kicking upwards directly into an elbow...?

    • @wowantonlavey
      @wowantonlavey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most thai's will throw the kick up and turn over at the last second. But he's just throwing it straight up. Isn't popping his hip on the knee either, its just swinging straight up too...

      they're either
      1 targeting the arms or
      2 just spar kicking

      Actually you should kick more up when your opponent has a high guard and traditional MT open elbow stance. You have no choice but to kick up and inside missing his flared elbows.

    Never had anyone saying to use the floor when throwing the knee. Or that you should aim for the belly pad. I've always aimed for the Thai pad meaning it's felt weird when throwing knees
    This vid has helped massively. Can't wait to get to the griphouse tomorrow

      I was always shown a Knee should come up first then go 'straight' into their belly. it was awkward as hell when I was learning it and I kind of wish I had learned it this way instead

    Won't this kick destroy your shins if the opponent have a tight guard? seems like it would easily go full power into the elbows

  • @briky7126
    @briky7126 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The trajectory of the angle of that roundshouse kick is perfect for the opponent to catch it with their elbow therefore causing self injury if opponent checks correctly. In “Thai” Muay Thai no kick should ever go “up” it should only go across the opponent or on a downward angle.

      I get your point but from experience I do know an awful lot of Muay Thai fighters that utilise this style of kicking. It has a lot of positives. Like any technique, it is not perfect, but this can work really well for a lot of people. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I hope you enjoyed the video regardless!!

      I feel like the Inside Leg Kick can have an upward angle. just not too upward or it's a cup check!

  • @muaythai6994
    @muaythai6994 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have problems with hip internal rotataion. I can't do the traditional round kick with a 90° angle above hip level. It seems like I could do this kick better but it also goes more upwards, does this make it weaker?
    Btw: Great video!

    • @authenticmax6350
      @authenticmax6350 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice reply.. at first it feels like you are slow when you rotate your hips compared to the no rotation. But once you practice enough your speed increases.. I reckon practicing rotating is a better way... plus rotation does increase the impact in my experience.

    Nice. It looks like the hip is to be swung over as the leg is brought up, am I correct?

    • @PeteGainz
      @PeteGainz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrPerfect6184 yes mate. Throw your hip into it every time you throw
      It helps if you are throwing a right kick to imagine pulling down on a rope with your right hand. Stand in the Thai stance and try this. You will find that your right hip will want to move forward

    When throwing the knee, the guy is totally open for a straight punch or a side step elbow... he is not covering his head or in other words his hands are down... and when you kick from an orthodox stance, try to lift your left leg a little bit - not completely leaving the ground, you lift your left heel a little bit while you throw your right foot, you will gain more power doing so... and always twist your hips, don't kick upwards because you might hit the elbow of your opponent which will hurt your leg. Thanks.

    • @justinbain2030
      @justinbain2030 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tip but it's subjective to the individual you're fighting... yes, when you throw the kick make sure the foot on the ground has no heel touching and make sure its passed a 90 degree point... Mastering this technique is key.... once practiced enough It doesn't matter if they "block" it... It will still do a significant amount of damage, which will leave you in a good follow up position for combos afterwards.... daze em and swarm....text book muay thai... you normally learn this within the first class of any decent muay thai/ kickboxing class.... If not your instructors are shit and you need to switch to another school

      @samkill7473 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      though no muscling up of the leg is actually required. if you switch your hips properly with the hop that points your heel at your opponent, your leg or knee will swing up in the desired trajectory. but you have to maksure you[re rotating your shoulders back in the opposite direction in order to maintain balance and accelerate the kick right before impact. i see almost no western fighter get this right. all thai fighters reverse the hop after the kick lands, in order to recover with perfect balance. practiciing the reversal with every kick is key to landing the kick with optimum force, and then recovering guard.

      He's also losing efficiency with the throwing down of the arms. It doesn't achieve much. He could get the same power with a long guard or similar effect.

      What i do with my knees is I first raise my leg and then drive it horizontally through my target in one swift move I think these help because I hit the sternum a lot more and also in sparring it almost works like a teep because my opponent is forced to go backwards

    G if you are fighter with good timing he would knock you out your defense while throwing knees and kicks are really crappie you keep dropping your guard

    Dropping his hands a little too much, but other than that good instructions.
