It’s manic. To start the car, you insert this key that looks like it folds in two, then you depress a squishy rubber button to the right of the wheel, while pushing in the brake and clutch pedals, which both feel lightly sprung under the feet and make a noticeable “click” sound once they reach the end of their travel. At idle, the car feels lumpy and sounds almost (from the cabin anyways) like a muscular American V8 idling. Once you give it some gas and ease out the surprisingly light clutch, it jutters forward (not so smoothly) and the wine of the gearbox as well as the change-in-pitch of the engine starts. The engine becomes surprisingly smooth, but not very torquey up until about 3600RPM or so, with the only hint at power being the huuuuge “ssshhhhh” sound of the turbos and the wastegate “pash” every time you upshift. Every upshift brings out the clicks of the shifter gate as well as the clicks of the pedals. Past 3600RPM the car becomes manic, and you hear more turbo sound than you do engine sound, and the shift from redline brings an immense “WAPASH” from behind you. The suspension is immensely stiff, but not jarringly so - it feels compliant. The thing you notice most is the sound of every tiny little rock and pebble being spat up by the wheels hitting the underside of the car, as the carbon fibre and the car having no sound-shielding really work in tandem with the engine, turbos, gearbox and little “snick snick” sounds of everything else to make the symphony of noises quite loud and visceral. huge empty engine bay. heavy car. broken promises. cancelled pre-orders. looks good though. it needs a modern twin turbo ford V6 swapped in but then the value would go down. the jag is not so good at tight corners and low speeds so it has a purpose as a big long car.
I used to live in Darwin and my father was a customs officer. When they did the Cannonball Run there (where they could go as fast as they could on the open roads), I remember seeing what was left of the F-40 after it had the fatal car crash that killed 4 people. I was a teenager at that time. I'll never forget it. My father also saw it as he was doing customs, checking it out of the country. Sad that both drivers (doctors) were killed, plus the 2 people doing the check point. That F-40 was a beast though. Man did it kick ass in the time trials.

The F40 is just the most timeless and legendary car, I have seen a few at shows, close up, they still look like spaceships from the future, especially with the front and rear panels open, nothing else comes close for a sense of being special and sheer presence, you hear people say "There's an F40 over there" and you have to go look, virtually no other car can illicit this kind of reaction.

Nah, you do.
Two of the most stunningly beautiful cars of the 20th century.
"Ferrari F40, haven't driven one of these for a while..."
Do you want us to punch you, or were you just not thinking before you spoke?
I didn't get this
Some one pls explain
@@Dj_pps Most people would love to have a go in an F40 just once, Chris has driven them multiple times
@@src248 not many even get to see a genuine one let alone drive.
The F40 and the XJ220 were two of my greatest favourites back in the day.
They still are.
Oh, how much fun this would have been with Jeremy and company...
2:56 that side profile is the things that dreams are made of
The look on the Jag still looks incredible. The design is simply flawless and it looks like a concept car for todays motorshows.
I've seen that actual Jag 'in the flesh' as it were and it is absolutely gorgeous
I kinda makes me crazy that the F40 doesn’t have tilt steering lol
Both of these cars are breathtakingly beautiful.
There’s NO WAY I’d choose the Jag over the F40
huge empty engine bay. heavy car. broken promises. cancelled pre-orders. looks good though. it needs a modern twin turbo ford V6 swapped in but then the value would go down. the jag is not so good at tight corners and low speeds so it has a purpose as a big long car.
Jeremy Clarkson,James May, Richard Hammond this Top Gear
I like Freddie on top gear. You can tell he loves cars and that's what top gear was all about. You can keep the friendly banter because that's a bit too fake but Chris and Freddie just talking about 2 legendary motors is great tv
Harris makes Flintoff sound like a clown
Yup, he sounds ass
Flintoff can sound like clown on his own. He doesn't need any help
Hahaha.. i was thinking the same 😊
Yh I can't stand Freddie
I thought he was pretty good... Oh well 🤷🏽♂️
4:15 a GROUP B metro!!!
for the love of god! it's 2021 and they still say this things? it wasn't a V6 from a normal metro, it was the engine from a GROUP B metro!!
it was specifically designed for that rally car,and they added turbos when they put it in the XJ220 (and also increasing the displacement)
The XJ220 is such a stunningly pretty car. Timeless design.
The design is very typical for the nineties
I’ve never seen Chris Harris this excited about a car !!
The F40 is the quintessential "modern-ish" Ferrari in my books!
Beautiful cinemtography and classic cars. One suggestion though..let the engine of these cars be the soundtrack for the videos. People want to hear more of it.
Ozil is actually Enzo...did u know?
Enzo Ferrari remastered

The F40 is just the most timeless and legendary car, I have seen a few at shows, close up, they still look like spaceships from the future, especially with the front and rear panels open, nothing else comes close for a sense of being special and sheer presence, you hear people say "There's an F40 over there" and you have to go look, virtually no other car can illicit this kind of reaction.
Harris is one of the few who have the ability to make you feel a car with words
Yeah. Not to idolize the dude, only to appreciate his gifting. And this dude HAS a gift for that.
I really appreciate Chris for that. My introduction to him was the f40 vs 50 video. Since I'll likely not drive one in this lifetime, that video made me feel like I at least knew what it'd be like.
Cheers.
(astute observation tho in your comment)
Anyone who would choose the Jaguar over the F40 needs to just turn in their gearhead card right now.
