So many bad stocks are in index so you automatically pick that particular one. In case of small case you should pick entire sector in theme based investment that also a bad idea the best idea is pick individual stock of different sectors and also future existing growth business. Very beautiful investment is one should make around 20 stock core portfolio and 20 small satelite portfolio check the selected companies future business and past consistent management integrity. Then start monthly sip for 15 to 20 years followup companies performance quarterly if any company have internal fundamental issue then exit immedietly from that particular stock. Mutual fund investments are bad division. But check the mututual fund portfolio and select stock accordingly is good idea
Stock investing is 99% temperament and 1% knowledge. That is, even after you have done full research and pinpointed a name, you still get 1/100. Focus on 99! That's where you differentiate between the best and the rest.

You said LT Investment - Pick stock only having stable growth means continual ascending graph nature but of course ok to have dips too ( that's fine) But how do you see correction factor which really make any stock value back to same value let's say 3 or 4 years back. It is also happening with sector leader too. For example - HUL stock was around 2500 somewhere in April 20 and now which is still around same value even after 3 years + , it is really scary for investor One more important point - Correction by 33% means 100 Rs share you will get by 66 Rs. But gaining to same original value i mean 100 Rs, Stock value should see growth by 50%... Quite tough Secondly historic data also saying so many great blue-chip companies , once were knows as must stock but now no where For example - Reliance Communication as you have shown as an example was having very strong MC once , same with Suzlon and they were market leaders once... So final guidance - "KAYA KARE BHAI"
