Background music gets in the way,...Just friendly advice tone it down or have none, people want instructions and advice which you give well, music is ok for surf footage and elevators....
Thankyou. Been an aussie surfer since 6, now 51. Broke my C3/C4 in my neck surfing after doing it for decades. Was paralyzed in the water, have a titanium plate and 4 X 14mm screws in my spine.Learnt to walk again and after 2.5yrs made it back....love surfing again. Your videos are very professional and I am learning from you as you seem to be a good teacher 😃.The breathing you mentioned is very important. Subscribed. 💮🏵️💗🏄🏄🏄🤟🤟🤟🇦🇺
Awesome thank you. Focusing on fundamentals is so important. I was making rookie mistakes and making bad habits and then I realized I need to go back to fundamentals. It's a big difference.
Very underrated lesson. It’s taken me literally 20 years to realise my back foot wasn’t far enough back. I grew up in fat weak waves so back foot was always up to get speed and flow. Back foot gotta be on the heal grip to do hi-Po moves.
This was excellent , after 30 years of surfing this has been a game changer / you presented this very well / especially with the board template on the mat.
Your tip about the back foot is the game change for me. I was trying to turn longboard, bending it exactly like you showed til I lose my balance and fall out the board. I'll try to put my back foot more closer to the tail to improve the board turns. Thank you very much, Marcelo!
This is just the best ever video I have watched on posiioning of the feet. This has helped me progressso much. Wish you would make some more like this. Thanks, Lea from Australia😊
Very good lesson. I've had huge issues with pearling after stepping down to a smaller board. I am finally getting the hang of it after realizing my body position and weight is too far forward and consciously pop-up a lot further back. Having snowboarded my whole life the natural stance I pop-up into is to have the center of gravity in the middle of the board, with my feet position almost the same distance between the nose and the front foot, as the tail and the back foot. When I first started surfing I mostly used 65-80l boards and got into a bad habit to pop-up into forward heavy position but being so stable it worked anyways. Going down to a 50l board has been a harsh but good lesson.
The knees position to back foot landing position reference is something I have never heard before. Thanks for sharing that! The hands too far forward is another key element of the pop up that very few online coaches teach, and it is crucial to land your front foot in the center of the string. If you have no room for you leg, your front foot lands on the heel side most of the times. Very very good techniques taught in this video, I will definitely share it around. But please, fix the sound. Music is too loud and I can barely hear you. Nice job man! You got a new subscriber!
Amazing video man thank you so much for these tips!! For someone that doesn‘t live close to the ocean, these types of exercises are absolutely vital!! But of course they are vital for any stoked surfer out there hehe 😄🤙
Will be surfing tomorrow. I usually watch how to videos before going to get at least a bit of confidence 😂 I'll definitely apply this tomorrow! One of the great videos I've seen so far!
Fantastic explanation of the pop-up and foot positioning best video I’ve seen so far. I’ve been learning myself to surf for a couple of months on the south coast in the UK so waves not great but learning this foot positioning is helping me a lot just starting to turn. Still in white water but getting there slowly, I probably look a bit of dick most of the time but I quest we all start somewhere, and videos like yours helps out loads… great explanation and very easy to understand. thank you very much and keep them coming .. ❤🏄🏻♂️
Thanks for the tips, can't wait for more content! I recently started learning how to surf and love how you teach it as a sport with a wholistic approach. Working on the fundamentals in order to improve is what I teach my students in Lacrosse as well so it's awesome to hear it from someone else. I'm making it a personal goal to go to El Salvador and get coached by you, my mom is from El Salvador and as a child I could never visit because she said it was too dangerous. Now that I'm older the beautiful beaches, meeting my family, and getting some surfing lessons sounds way too good to miss. Until then I'll be following your videos and using them to learn!
Bryant Hernandez thanks you very much for your comment!! I’ll be posting more soon! I been working on that for a few month and we are getting ready to launch! So good to hear to have familia here and it sound like the perfect trip haha! Happy to share and tech you in person when you come! Have a great day
Thanks for the tips, subscribed! My only suggestion is to turn the music volume down - it was a bit difficult to hear your instructions with the music being at about the same volume as your voice.
Great video. But, your explaining on a short board. Being a 6'0 tall Intermediate surfer, I ride a mid length 6'6. So, I always stand up on the middle of the board. I understand how to go forward to catch more waves and have stability. But, still don't understand how to pop up very far back...
thanks mate. popup always an issue for me. some sessions i nail it every time. but most of the time its a issue . one problem i have is i arch up for too long before poping up. i don't even know why i do it
Thank you for the video! I had pretty bad technique but I was fit enough (and the waves slow enough) for it to work. I have moved now to somewhere with faster waves and I went down to a 4' 6" board and my bad technique was no longer working.. I spent an hour practicing what you showed and changing my technique. I'm going surfing tomorrow I will let you know if this helped :')
@@marcelocsurf it was DEFINITELY a lot better and I got a few waves despite very messy conditions. I'm going again tomorrow :) One issue I had with this technique is that if I didn't arch my back (putting weight on the back of the board) the tail would life and I didn't have enough room to pull the legs through. So I am drilling this and focusing on my back Thanks for the awesome video
Great vid…But what mechanics are you using to scoop your feet underneath you? Are you pushing off of one knee, both knees or just driving your front knee through as fast as you can?
Yo great video. I'm surfing on rivers in the rocky mtns N America and focusing on my pop up at the start of my 2nd season here. Yo where do you get one of those mats with the surf board diagram on it?
Very nice... But instead of looking forward just before the pop-up you should always look to the wave and where you wanna go. It makes the pop-up much easier more control and speed. Besides the hands next to your ribs, eyes on the wave those are the littles details that make all the diference.
Actually you look down the line when you do the cobra to pick the line you want to do on the face of the wave and after that when you do the pop up you are already on the direction you want to go and then after, you do the pop up looking forward. Always more stability when looking forward, shoulders, eyes, and board are going in the same direction.
@@marcelocsurf Looking forward to the wave and never down the line otherwise you go straight or too large to do the botton turn. Looking to the wave you have more control before and after the pop up... Also it's much easier and fast to pop up with speed.
I've been surfing for 30 years and have never had anybody explain feet positioning on the pop-up as well. Thanks for the tips!
Happy to heard that!!! Have a great session!!! 🙏🙏
instablaster.
A great tutorial🤙🏼🌈 Thank you brother🎸 What are the surfing possibilities in Salvador?
Background music gets in the way,...Just friendly advice tone it down or have none, people want instructions and advice which you give well, music is ok for surf footage and elevators....
Also, no vocal audio on the right side. So you have to have left earphones bud in to listen
I thought I was the Only one really disappointed whit the music....why? Why? 🤬
Thankyou.

Nice vid! Avoid dragging your feet is another point, that'll slow you down, get your caught up in the lip and primary reason for taking off late.

Andrei you are 100percent correct. all action sports producers think they need music behind everything. its distracting and not needed
and its only on the left side :D
Probably the best pop up video on youtube :)
Where can I find this practice mat?? Learned a lot from this video!
Thank you bro!! Needed this rn 😊🙏🏼🌊🤙🏼✨☘️🌈✨
