  • Dented dust cap of paper repaired visually and technically. The dust cap isn't just to avoid dust. Certain the paper solid ones play the high frequencies of the speaker. Therefore it’s important to get the dented paper dust cap not only visually correct, but also technically correct. That’s what we’re going to do in this video. The speaker in the video is a midrange out of a Bang & Olufsen Penta. We used waterproofed wall paper paste.
P.S. If you're interested, we have specially by Audiofriends designed foam and rubber surrounds:

There's no any problem in sound when yoy just reface the dust cap?

      Good evening,
The dustcap, certain with midranges and tweeters kan make a difference, certain if the surface of the dustcap is that large comparing to the cone as by the B&O Penta. On the webshop of Audiofriends we have some more information about dustcaps and there influence on the sound the speaker produces: ‘More about the dustcap story.’ >

@@audiofriends254Hi, I couldn’t find the site you have provided the above link to. I would like to know how this repair, using wallpaper glue, will effect sound. Is there any difference between knew speaker with new dust cup and this repaired one? If there is even slight difference, what is the nature of the difference.

Do you know how to fix B&W CDM7 Tweeter?

Good evening, thanks for your reply. Sorry for my late reply, Audiofriends is very busy at the moment. Methods are used to get a metal tweeter back into the correct shape. Note: it is not without risk and should be done very carefully. The fact is that when metal is cold deformed, the material becomes harder on the spot. This also increases the chance of cracking of the thin metal.
The trick is to disassemble the tweeter first, and of course carefully. Then you take a paper clip. Try to get this paper clip in the same radius as the inside of the metal dome as much as possible. You guessed it, now carefully, preferably from the outside inwards, put the dome back in the correct position. Patience and caution play a major role, especially if the dome is dented considerably. Do not press hard, gently dent the dome from the outside to the inside little by little.
Indeed, after removing the dent, the metal has become harder. Whether that can be heard, I don't know. I think it cannot be heard with music. The foregoing is entirely at your own risk.
      Good luck! Kind regards, Fred

What's the recipe for the wallpaper paste?

    • @audiofriends254
      @audiofriends254  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for your response. I used Perfax Professional wallpaper glue (I think other wallpaper glue will be okay too). The package contains 200 grams of powder, and costs about 10 Euro at the moment. The packaging is good for a 5 liters of wallpaper paste. For the complete specifications, please click on the next hyperlink: perfax.nl/new/nl/onzeproducten/02_Behang_lijmen/01_Vliesbehang/06_Professioneel_BENL_NL
I assume that you can translate this with Google, if that is not possible and if you have any questions, please let me know. I actually think that Perfax clumps quickly. For a dust cap it is no problem to obtain a little glue without lumps.
This is also a reason why relatively much glue has been created in relation to the amount of wallpaper glue used. After all, a 100 ml wallpaper glue is sufficient. However, I think it is almost impossible to make a 100 ml wallpaper paste. Simply because the ratio between the wallpaper paste powder and the amount of water that should be used is so minimal that it is almost impossible to make it. I myself used a quarter (50 gr) of the content of the package, and measured the correct amount of water with a kettle. The water that was used simply came from the tap and was not used heated.
I hope I have given you a satisfactory answer.
      With best regards, Fred

You could probably just get the pre-mixed stuff at the hardware store too ;-)

Good morning, thanks for your reply. The amount of water is often different between different suppliers, and also different between the different kind of glues. For instance water resistant glue, strong glue, normal glue, etc. With best regards, Fred
