  • The foam surrounds of Bang & Olufsen Beovox / Beolab Penta midranges get after a while decayed. We have a simple solution to repair these speakers with a small amount of tools. P.S. Always stick/push the surround on the cone or frame first time crosswise till it's firmly attached.
    We also have the very flexible specially designed rubber version for these B&O Penta speakers. The specially for Penta designed rubber surround is the 3"AF-69 and can be found here: • B&O Penta repaired fro... .
    Note: we used methylated spirits, but alcohol from the pharmacy or IPA alcohol is also excellent.

    Do you also sell ferro fluid for the tweeters? I removed one of my Penta's tweeters to search the model number and take measurements, but i noticed a weird brown stain on the tweeter's sticker. So i took the tweeter apart and found out that they are in fact ferro fluid tweeters. Is this a well-known thing?

    • @audiofriends254
      @audiofriends254  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning, sorry for the late reply. Actually I don’t know if the ferrofluid is in the tweeters of all Penta series, but it wouldn’t surprise me. The surprise is because Audiofriends doesn’t sell ferrofluid. This is because of different reasons. One is that the viscosity of the ferrofluid original often differs between different types of tweeters.
      Further, as far as I know, good ferrofluid that lasts long, is rather expensive, and I assume not sold, but only used by professionals. Also it’s hard to get the right volume of ferrofluid back. Good ferrofluid may differ some from the original one, but lasts longer. Otherwise using of ‘standard sold ferrofluid’ is often maybe not the best solution, but it is the only solution. With best regards, Fred

    Hi, thank you for the video, is the best guide I had seen, one question, the glue T7000 (black for example) is good to paste a midrange penta? And rubber is better than foam ? Thank you.

      Good evening,
      Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I never used this T-7000 glue. However it seems to be flexible after drying. How flexible? No idea what it really will do after drying. Use is all at own risk.

      Good morning,
      Sorry, but my knowledge doesn’t go that far. At forum.beoworld.org/forums there are a lot of specialists. If you use the search word ‘Penta’ you wil go to this page which also has a lot of answers: forum.beoworld.org/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=Penta&o=Relevance. If you can’t find the specific answer to the electronic problem, you might as well open a topic. You then have to click the button ‘join’ on the right above the page. The forum is in different languages, but English is the most common used language, with the most technical people who are willing to help you.

    Hello i have just bought the rubber surrounds from you guys for my new penta speakers, is the process the same for the rubber as the foam, as showed ind the video? :)

    • @audiofriends254
      @audiofriends254  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good afternoon,
      That’s correct. The only thing is that the drying of the glue will take some longer, especially on the frame, because the rubber surround and the plastic frame are both airtight. Please take patience to let them dry for 24 hours before playing. There is just a small film of glue between the frame and the rubber surround, so at normal use of the glue it should be enough.
      Best regards, Fred

    So
    How are these midrange drivers in the Penta removed to do the refoaming ? Does not appear they are face mounted ?

    • @audiofriends254
      @audiofriends254  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning,
      Thanks for your reply. You have a good question. Fred + Google translation:
      This question actually embarrasses me a bit, because I could have put the dismantling and mounting of the midrange speakers on video. On the next link you can see the screws on the front of the panel where the midrange speakers are mounted: th-cam.com/video/P3rd3NTQ-iM/w-d-xo.html. You must disassemble these screws.
      If you remove the panel with four midrange speakers, you will see that on the back of the panel the midrange speakers are mounted each with three screws and brackets.
      Furthermore, a lot of cabling to the midrange units. It is important to mark this cabling with, for example, a piece of tape with a number written on it, with a waterproof pen or marker. Write the corresponding number below on the magnet of the relevant midrange speaker, above the + and - connections.
      Then desolder and disassemble the units. After revision with new surrounds it is the reverse order.
      Kind regards, Fred

      @@audiofriends254 Thanks Fred. Successfully removed. After replacing the foam, what are you using to replace the broken brittle gaskets between the baffle and speaker. Im considering a foam tape sold for the purpose. It is 1/8" thick but it is 3/8" wide. Maybe cut it down the middle ?

    • @audiofriends254
      @audiofriends254  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning, thanks for your question. The sealings are for between the back of the frame of the midrange and the baffle. Original also from high density foam, and needs often replacement: www.repairyourspeakers.com/en/foam-rubber-surrounds/bang-olufsen/bang-olufsen-penta-midrange-8x-foam-gasket-ring/a-2684-10000016. Best regards, Fred.

    • @audiofriends254
      @audiofriends254  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good afternoon, good question. After all, people usually think that it is always not to cause false air, an air leak so to speak. That is possible with woofers, and in particular with woofers in closed cabinets. Some manufacturers also glue a woofer, I don't find that useful, after all, you can no longer reach the exchange filter. Anyway, now why a foam gasket is almost always used, both with woofers, midrange, tweeters, etc.
      With the Bose 901 (indeed, something completely different again) the sealing ring of the last loose speakers was already glued to the speaker frame as standard. Now why the Penta's 3 inch midrange speakers need a sealing ring. Especially with very powerful midrange speakers, vibrations can occur between the frame of the midrange and the front.
      It is therefore useful to tighten the speakers crosswise as much as possible. Testing with, for example, a program for test signals on the mobile phone is quite sensible. With the sealing ring it is not possible that there are still audible vibrations between the frame of the midrange and the front. Finally, it is a small operation with relatively inexpensive parts, also original in mass production. Kind regards, Fred

At this moment IPA (colourless kind of alcohol / Isopropyl Alcohol) is a better advice. Best regards, fred
