- Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher holds a press conference in response to comments made by Alabama head coach Nick Saban Wednesday night on NIL and schools (including Texas A&M and Jackson State) using it to "buy" players.

As a fan of neither team, from my point of view, Saban didn’t accuse Jimbo of violating any rules, he was simply giving an example to his boosters of what NIL is doing in college football. Jimbo took this one personal when he really shouldn’t have.

To me, it doesn't seem like Saban is going after the "17 year old kids" that Jimbo keeps alluding to - he's going after the adults.
What Saban implied (and what Fisher was insulted by) was that a recruit should go to the school that would "Develop them as players, as People, and as Students". When Saban said this before saying that A&M bought their recruits is that A&M isn't a good school to be developed as players, people, students etc and instead chose 💰 over development. So basically its an insult to the coaching staff.
Its kind of a reach tho, pretty sure Jimbo was more pissed that A&M was doing something unethical than anything else. IMO the players are producing billions in revenue for the University and therefore they all should be paid.

Do you remember the speech Coach Saban gave in Texas last year a few months before the season started? He told the crowd that Bryce Young had almost $1mil in NIL. I guarantee you the boosters from A&M heard that loud and clear and decided then that they could influence recruits to come to A&M.

Under the table payoffs of college players by Boosters have been occurring for decades. 40+ years ago I worked for a Booster (of a regularly top-10 finishing university), and we'd have big name football players come through and do 20-minutes of work, then they'd disappear. Generally, they receive some cash on the spot, AND at the end of the week, they'd receive a paycheck. During that same era, I had first-hand knowledge of other Boosters doing essentially the same thing with players who would have been nationally known at the time. This NIL stuff just takes it to a new level and brings it into the light.

Just because A&M is playing the NIL game better than anybody else doesn't mean they bought their recruiting class, the vast majority of their recruits came from the Houston Area, where their main recruiting rivals (Texas and LSU) had a down year recruiting wise. A lot of those potential recruits were at Kyle Field on October 9 and experienced the atmosphere, its insulting to A&M and the program that Jimbo is rebuilding to imply that the ONLY reason those kids went there was for the money.
