    Husqvarna had a 250 Enduro model in 1965.

    With this bike you can really see where Francisco Bulto got alot of his design ideas to start Bultaco. Bulto was a director at Montesa and left to start his own company.

    Greaves had 2-stroke dual purpose bikes in 1960 that I’m aware of. Love Montesa though.

    My first wife rode a modified 1970 Bultaco 125 Lobito (with a 175 jug and refitted Mikuni carb) through the woods trails and roads of northern lower Michigan. The sound of this Montesa is really close to her bike's noise from fifty years ago.

    I have one of those. I think they came out in 66. The Bultaco Matador 200 came out in 64, which was earlier, and before that there were a number of street legal Greeves with 2-stroke Villiers

      Going back even older, look up the Zundapp 200 Enduro, which I think came out in 1952. It was a dualsport version of the DB202

    You're hitting home with me! At one time, somewhere around this year, my family lived in the apartment above a Montesa dealer here in SE Ohio. I'll have to see what other bikes familiar to me you've featured. I remember when their trials bike first came out.

    I worked at a Montesa dealership and the owner got one of these in for himself. All the guys around the shop ended up riding it. When these were new, they were so tight it took forever to get them broke in. So we all rode it to get some miles on it. They were also geared pretty high for what they were intended.

    Remember when these turned up. People were riding BSA bushman's. Villiers. James. Then zing zing zing. The first Cota's soon followed. They really did change everything.
    VIVA Montessa ;-)

    That's my favorite bike to cruise around the business park on after most people have gone home! It's just a hoot of a bike. So, for those of you watching, Billy actually found this bike for sale and offered it up to me a few years ago. I think this was during, what I lovingly refer to as, the OSSA Four-Fecta sale. Billy did a deal with a guy for my four OSSA's (two MAR's and two Pioneers, all in questionable condition), and I wound up with this totally original Montesa out of the deal....give or take. Fast forward a few years, and I've had a chance to tidy up (and it did need some tidying) this good 'ole Montesa Scorpion into what you had a chance to watch here. I don't think this bike has very much time on it, except for leaning against someone's garage in their backyard for many years. It certainly has a "weathered" patina to it, but it's not a complete roach. It's too nice for me to restore, and it's so much fun to ride, I think it will just stay like it is. Though I did get a new Valance and Tool box/Tool Box door and lock for it. Glad you had a fun time riding it around Billy! Looking forward to your next one!

      I’m curious as to why the Scorpion puts out so much smoke? I watched the episode with the Diablo and it put out very little

    • @allenwenzel7272
      @allenwenzel7272 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@matthewfreschi1738 I suspect that the exhaust on the Scorpion is full of un-burned two-stroke oil, and as the bike only gets ridden every now and then, it smoke's more than it probably should as the pipe gets heated up.

    • @matthewfreschi1738
      @matthewfreschi1738 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Allen.... I have a Scorpion as well well. Motor was just completely rebuilt and it has a new pipe. It smokes just like yours ...maybe worse. I’m wondering if a seal failed somehow. Anyway thanks

    Beautiful patina and completeness of parts!
    In the still photos I saw a bright yellow (1970?) Suzuki Savage.
    Back in the day, my mom bought one just like it from New England Cycle Sales.

    Love your videos! However, the Bultaco Matador 200 was available in 1964, pre-dating the Scorpion, and Greeves had the 24 TFS Scottish as well. Either way though, all great bikes, and Sr. Bulto was an ex-Montessa employee!!

    I had one. Seems to me that there was too big a jump from 2nd to 3rd. It could have used a 5-speed. What say you? That was 50 years ago, so I might be mistaken. For a street/scrambler machine the gearing might have been correct.
