carb wasn’t correctly set up if the slide wasn’t sitting on the throttle stop screw, must’ve been hanging on the cable. (Tut Tut….) Monobloc carbs weren’t that great, the later Amal Concentric was a definite upgrade. We used to direct the crankcase breather outlet to “breath” over the upper run of the back chain, was mostly as effective as the later Scott Oiler. All before the days of O Ring sealed chains, they were usually std Reynolds chain. There was a product then called “Linklyfe” that was a waxy black grease with lubing colloids like graphite and Molybdenum Disulphide in suspension, the practice was to keep two chains of the right length. Keep one clean and waxed, the other in duty. When wanting to swap the freshly lubed chain was connected to the one needing removal and run into place. Then the dirty one was cleaned with paraffin (kerosene in the US) allowed to dry off somewhere warm then laid onto the grease surface in its tin. Then the grease tin was heated till melted, the freshly cleaned chain sank into the grease and after a short while was fished out using a wire left through the end link. hung over the tin of grease to let it drip excess into the tin, then it was wrapped and stored till the process needed repeated. chains maintained like that outlasted all others lubed more conventionally.
The headlight on my Himiway e bike is brighter than any Triumph I've ever seen thinking about modifying the stock headlight on my 56 the guts from one I haven't had my generator on mine in 45 years 😮😅
Whoa, very rare and expensive.
Nice bike,I have a 67 360 Viking and I love it.
cranked on fire first kick? r u kidding me? How Sweet It Is...Thanks...
Wow! You won the vintage motorcycle lottery. I can't believe you got both of them from the same seller. Man, love BSAs...Triumphs too.
Wow, dude, that's a beauty..
My dream bike. She is beautiful.
I used to see 441s out in the California deserts back in the 70s. Joke was that you could always tell the Victor noobs because they walked with a limp.
Nice.
There is a battery get your story straight!
😎😎😎😎😎
Missing all your new content, and your choice of beers. Hurry back.......SOON!!!
Having to split the engine case to replace the front sprocket: Darn, that's a deal breaker for me.
Looks like it was a great day! I’m about to get a new bike and an old school 950 Adventure is the plan.
Great vid. Although had to laugh at your ability to omit the "J " word when talking about the introduction of the two strokes in the late 60`s and early 70`s⛩
My bike is sitting at Scottie's right now and I ran across this video. Very fun to see the tour!
Aoooooch Not out of the Bottle bud. Never ever. Thanks
I gave my my R 65 to my nephew. But sorry! This is one of the best Bier in Germany, this the is true! But this is a spezial kind of a Bier! In Bavaria, the ruler, I don't know if he was king at this time, he just get King after the France emperor Napoleon, forbid Bier was made of wheat, he thought, that wheat was more to be food. The population told him different. If wheat biere is the best export artictile the german had, many we should have grounded a brewery in Afghanistan, in Kundus. I believe it would be a better export article than guns. (I´have heard the best croissant of the world you get in Hanoi still)
All my life, I've never had an interest in English bikes, due to their bad electrical problem owners have told me. But, watching your videos, has stirred my interest in them. I do love the looks of the Triumph's as they still look like the bikes in the 60's but with better technology. Dealerships, are few though at least here in Southwest PA. Thanks For what you do and keep on wrenching and riding!!!
The rubber band was the old MX starting. Before that, it was a hand-on helmet. (I was good at those because I studied how Joel Robert did it when I saw him race at Santa Cruz in 1968). The classic desert hare and hound was a shotgun start with the engines dead. The Barstow to Vegas was a dead engine with the riders lined up 15 feet behind their machines, shotgun start. That used to be called The Grand Prix Start.
That is the oddest Triumph exhaust note I have ever heard !
These are a great engine, they love to rev.
It would have taken a big set of Balls to ride that through the desert , with those values like that ,you wouldn't want to get any crap in there, nice looking old Norton, Thanks for posting Bill , I know you put a lot of time in making these films, So thank you, keep them coming , KIWI
I was a toddler when this hit the show rooms. I was always a fan of HD styling at least up until the last several years where the styling is slacking.
Thats what my father drank mosty in the 60s, Schlitz and Ballentine. Probably when I got my first taste of beer. And today I still can't stand the taste of beer. Both beers now defunct.
I raced Huskies back in the '70's and we all called them "Hus-kuh-VAR-nas". Must have been a Texas thing.
i always wanted to try riding one of those older Huskys !.... i currently own a 20 yr old YZ 450 and i still consider it a brand new bike because ive still never yet even ridden anything newer , and for me my 450F is kinda too fast and powerfull and also a bit heavy for my purposes, which is also just mainly enjoying riding very similar singletrack and the gnarly old mining roads behind my house in the Yuba valley area of Tahoe.... and truth is when so many trees are down and the road is washed out like has been during this yr i feel like i should just be on a Trials bike ?!
Bought my Victor in early '70 so I don't remember if it was a '69 or '70. You are right about the stock handle bars. I put my front wheel in the fork of a tree and with a long pipe I bent the bars out to a straighter configuration. Worked great.
Had one of the last A65L Lightings got it when it was three months old in 72 brilliant machine perfect for the roads here in northern ireland it's still around great sound from that engine
BMW stands for best motorcycle in the world. Or bikes made for wankers. Love my bmw…
Just got my hands on a 1987 BMW r80 mono shock and love it
The Husky was the holy grail of dirt bikes in those days. I couldn't afford one and had to settle for a 250cc t/s Suzuki. I was surprised the one time I raced it that, going up a substantial hill, I was able to out climb a husky, CZ and even a Maico. Surprised the hell out of me. Then for some reason the bike decided to go tree climbing on a long sweeping turn coming off the longest straight section on the track. For some reason they thought that a good place for a tree was right at the apex of the corner. I felt really stupid (as I was in third at the time). About two weeks later a guy broke his back on that tree, so they cut it down.
This is helping me decide I really need one :-), good stuff
Looks like your head gasket is blowing? I want one!
Cna you confirm the bike builders name? Not hearing clearly in vid. Thanks B
Where ya been man? We're starting to worry.
GREAT FAMILY! I went to high school with Bryan, Hank's son. Bryan also worked with me at my dad's garage. Would be great to hear from Bryan or run into him at a AHRMA event.
I now know what I'm doing this afternoon with my Airhead 😅😅
From someone who also has an ossa (250 pioneer), torque is almost never an issue, its the brakes that require some finesse
I've never ridden anything that old, but I have plenty of experience racing a dual shock through cross country terrain. I've got a 1981 Suzuki PE175 that is my tight woods racer, and a 1982 Suzuki RM465 that is raced on the more open tracks.
Road Trial tires for sure, they will get you everywhere 😊
I just subscribed a couple days ago and I have a question, if I may. I have many of the bikes you showcase ( but am looking forward to checking out the beer).Do you keep all the beautiful bikes? I have been accused of having mental issues cause I don't seem to be able to part with my bikes I have loved since I was 13 in 1968.I consider myself the caretaker of these two wheeled works of art and l plan to auction them to benefit rescue animals in the future. Thanks so much for your informative videos. P.S. just pulled the 1970 BSA 441 Victor from the barn after I moved the 71 Husky 400 out of the way!
I bought one like this with a bigger seat 10 years ago and parked it in the barn. Thanks for your video, I will wheel it to the shop this morning at first light and start cleaning it up. It deserves some attention. Thanks again.
Great bike! For some reason I’m only getting audio from the left?
run a bit of 100LL Avgas in the fuel. old bikes love lead. and if it were mine, I would empty the gas tank after every ride. I fought these old glass tanks for many years and finally gave up. even if you do a 100% perfect job, none of the sealers work forever. I owned probably 20 BSA bikes. Triumph, Bultaco, Husqvarna, Montessa too. Enfield in 1967, I didn't own a Japanese bike until about 15 years ago
А почему без перчаток, рукам не холодно?
Banana flavored beer ? Bah ! How about some Beer flavored Beer ? I like the Beer flavor. Nice Bike, I have an R100/7, also nice.
😀
nice looking bike
