timeout timer can be anything that works best for you. Data-U is same as USB but with different bandwidth and works best for digital modes. Doest mean you cant use USB but would conflict with audio in/out settings and bandwidth settings.

On the FT-710 preset, what did you start with (ie RITTY)?
on the radio no presets are changed just switch to RTTY-L or U but RTTY is usually done in RTTY-L
