Kemp signed a contract extension with the SuperSonics in 1994. The league's collective bargaining agreement (CBA) precluded any adjustment to that contract until October 1997.
To fair, It wasnt Jim's fault. Shawn was asking money out of his contract.

Kemp Dodged the first drug problem question like a pro, but Barns doubled up and added his own parents drug problems to the equation and put Kemp back in the wheel house to "give it up". Good job Barnes. Much respect to the legend, Kemp

That doesn’t mean he should be selected to the HOF. You gotta have a worthy body of work. Kemp isn’t even close. However, what should be the elite of the elite is now all inclusive, with guys like tim hardaway, ralph sampson, mitch richmond, grant hill, and chauncey billups getting inducted over the last handful of years. Baseball’s HOF is for real. They make you earn it, they don’t just let anybody in.
So Amare Stoudemire and Blake Griffin are 1st Ballot HOF base on your metrics.

Kemp put Seattle on his back for years along with Payton and made the Sonics relevant again. If he doesn't get in the HOF, Seattle/Oklahoma City should at least retire his jersey. He's at least deserves that recognition.

I cant recall a memorable Grant Hill playoff moment/signature game or anything like that. Kemp went to the finals, beting Hakeem, Charles, Malone along the way and Sonics were top seeded in the West (even though they went out in the 1st round to Denver and then the Lakers). If Hill and Webber are in the HOF, then Kemp has to be in.
Man, Kemp was THE GUY back then! Those dunks were absolutely ferocious. Definitely deserves the invitation into the HOF. He's the "Reign Man" for a reason! 🏀👋🏼😀👍🏼
He was electrifying. But his numbers are not HOF numbers. If Kemp is worthy, then you gotta consider guys like Walter Davis, Marques Johnson, and Sidney Moncrief.

Hell naw. You can be a very good player in your time, even an all star, but not be deserving of the HOF. It should be for the elite of the elite, like it is in baseball. With that being said, i’m sure kemp will eventually get in because the Naismith “all inclusive” HOF is easier to get in to than a 24 hour fitness.

*the most Athletic BIG the NBA will ever see* & 1 of the most versatile, had great handles for a big, grab a rebound & go coast2coast finishing in traffic, post up, face-Up or back2basket, midRange wet & could extend his range to the 3 with no problem, Kemp’s skillset was Elite, dude jumped off 1-foot like a slashing 2guard, really his only weakness
on-court was foul trouble, by far my fav duo ever *theSONiC-BOOM*
Griffen and Howard were bigger and stronger and way more athletic.

Couldn't pass the ACT/SAT to be eligible for college, and finagled his way into the League!
And that monicker stuck with him forever!When Seattle drafted him, they looked at him and said, "You are lucky to be here!"
And no matter what he did for the franchise --- that's how they treated him.
And college would have instilled in him that, the League is a business!

What most people fail to realize is that it’s the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, not NBA Hall of Fame. So you have to factor in everything he did in/for the game of basketball at all levels, from playing to coaching or whatever, it all counts. With that being said, he did more than enough in his basketball career to get in. I personally believe just his NBA playing career alone should get him in, but when you factor in everything else it’s a no brainer.

There are 163 players with 5 or more all-star selections. So if you have at least 5 all-star selections, you should almost definitely be in the HOF. Kemp has 6, which places him in the top 120 for all-star selections.

Shawn Kemp should absolutely be in the Naismith Hall of Fame. There were seasons that he played in Seattle that I thought he was the best power forward in the NBA. He definitely scored enough points💯

He not only was selected to 6 All-Star teams, but he also made 3 All-NBA Teams. To make 3 All-NBA teams in an era with Karl Malone and Charles Barkley is quite impressive. He was better than several guys that are in the HOF. He deserves to get in but I am not sure he will.
