  • Most Wanted List - Runway Incursion Between Aer Lingus A330 and US Air B737
    Boston Logan International Airport, Boston, Massachusetts
    June 9, 2005
    Presented at the Board meeting November 15, 2005 in Washington, D.C., for the Most Wanted List - 2005 Update on Federal Issues.
    Disclaimer: This three dimensional animated reconstruction shows the runway incursion incident between an Aer Lingus A330 and a US Air B737 at the Boston Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts on June 9, 2005. The following incident reconstruction displays information from the flight data recorder, recorded radar data, and aircraft performance data. This reconstruction does not depict weather or visibility conditions at the time of the incident.
    The animation shows a three-dimensional representation of the airplanes and their motion. The local time of day (based on the FAA's Air Traffic Control radar data), the lateral separation in feet between the right wing tip of the Aer Lingus A330 and the nose of the US Air B737 and the vertical separation in feet between the landing gear of the Aer Lingus A330 and the center of gravity of the US Air B737 are depicted as text.

    Do you want Tenerife, because that's how you get Tenerife.

      @comandanteej 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Two planes involved on the runway, and the similarities stop here. The lessons to learn were very different. In Tenerife the single runway was not yet vacated when the pilot jumped the gun (took directional instructions for permission to start the takeoff roll). Here two controllers did not communicate and cleared two planes to take off from different but intersecting runways at the same time.

    So, how is this "Most Wanted" relative to other incidents that may not have made the NTSB's "Most Wanted" list?

    • @ZorbaTheDutch
      @ZorbaTheDutch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Potentially hundreds of people killed, by what almost comes down to one mistake by an ATC.

      the "most wanted" means "the thing that we want to get rid of the most". and at that time it was RUNWAY INCURSIONS! this was massive issue in us airports in 90s-2010s which is why it was on the "most wanted" list compared to other safety issues that happen at a lower frequency, and therefore are not "most wanted"

    At what point did the Air Lingus notice the incursion? How much of an early takeoff was this if at all?

    • @ZorbaTheDutch
      @ZorbaTheDutch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It wasn't, but the other plane (B737) noticed the A330 rotating and then they delayed their own rotation until after the crossing. Fortunately there was just enough runway left to do this safely.

    use this process for Heathrow and Atlanta and every airplane will be in the air in less than 30 min

    • @thractrack
      @thractrack 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That would be impossible at Atlanta as the runways are all parallel.

      State of the art graphics is not the point........... the point is to have highly accurate Flight data for the simulation.... anything else is a waste of resources.... basic ground clutter and or terrain detail is all you need

    why are both runways being used when they cross? far out.

      Some airports like BOS don't have unlimited amounts of land on which to build nice long parallel runways that are spaced miles apart.

    There should be live camera feed in the cockpits or at least a stored feed...why are pilots exempt from scrutiny when police officers, train engineers etc have cameras watching their actions?

    • @JossRickard
      @JossRickard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lmao at the idea that police officers undergo camera scrutiny. Whenever there's an incident, somehow the bodycams are always malfunctioning

      I am curious what more value a camera would provide? The recorders provide a huge amount of information and pilots are heavily reviewed after incidents so I don't see the value.

    why can't this useless government upload in HD, it's 2015, I'm sure you guys spend countless hours making it look as factual as possible but when it can't be seen it's useless to us.

      For the same reason they still use "black boxes" in aircraft instead of transmitting the information to the airline. Money !!

      celticlofts Transmitting a constant stream of data when you're hundreds of miles out over the ocean makes no sense. It's much easier to store all of the flight's data in a crash resistant container.

    • @celticlofts
      @celticlofts 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Airbus are already using data transmissions for their Airbus A380. Of course the USA and the Russians also used data transmissions for their respective space programs.

      @@celticlofts Space operations are NOT commercial aviation operations.
      There's ONE space station. There are tens of THOUSANDS of commercial planes in the air at any given time.
