    Presented February 26, 2004
    Flight Path Animation
This three dimensional animated reconstruction shows the flight of Air Midwest Flight 5481, which crashed at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina on January 8, 2003. The following accident reconstruction displays information from the flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder, recorded radar data, and aircraft performance data. This reconstruction does not depict weather or visibility conditions at the time of the accident.
The animation shows a three-dimensional model of the airplane and its motion. Selected comments from the Cockpit Voice Recorder transcript are superimposed as text at the time they occurred. The time of day (based on the FAA's Air Traffic Control radar data), aircraft altitude in feet, and aircraft speed in knots are depicted as text.

The cables to the horizontal stabilizer were misadjusted, and the COG was violated past the point of stability.

That's what happens when you rig your flight controls backwards....pretty sure the inspector that signed that airplane off after c check went to jail.

Nobody was prosecuted or went to jail.

This crash had nothing to do with any of these posts' content other than it was a general maintenance error (regarding the forward elevator control stops), combined with improper loading causing aft cg. Read the NTSB report.

@@DrMackSplackem it wasn't error it was systemic failure. a supervisor made the CHOICE to not check the work of someone who has never worked on that equipment before. that's borderline criminal not an error.

Being overweight by itself would not have caused the crash. Read the report for the whole story rather than assume...

Paul Williams the plane was not overloaded. The elevator cables were rigged improperly.

Klaas Vaak The aircraft was overloaded and had its center of gravity too far back. With the elevators being maintained badly, the plane simply pitched up, stalled and just crashed.

@@billymacktexasdetective5827 Use of incorrect passenger weight estimate tables was a factor in the crash.

That's the date of crash, Dennis. The video came out a little over a year later.

Xaviar Ston - Graphics are designed to be minimalistic and technically accurate to depict core parameters such as pitch angle, aircraft altitude, speed, etc.. Adding better graphics is both counter-productive as well as pointless. This is a safety video, not a Hollywood movie.
