    I miss those rations so much. My father was in the Norwegian military back home and he would get like a box filled with those mre´s that where close to expiring.. I grew up eating those meals and i remember loving the oatmeal breakfast with a handfull of raisins in it to get the sweetness. I really wish i could still get a hold of the Norwegian mre.. to bad my father isn't in the military anymore...

    The mackrel tastes so good on rye bread(the Danish kind with lots of corse grains in) and topped with mayo and salt and pepper. It's a lunch stable here in Denmark

      +Stine Kirkeby Man! I still had three of those rye breads left from the Danish ration pack Christian sent me too! Hopefully there will be some more in the old ration I use for the comparison review. Cheers!

    Minor correction:
    Solbær (lit. 'sunberry') are black currants.
    Red currants are 'tyttebær', (or 'lingon' in Swedish )
    The mackerel in tomato sauce is a very popular sandwich spread here. Sold primarily in tins, it is usually a soft filet in sauce. The shredded kind you got is a fairly new idea and makes a lot less of a mess than trying to mash a chunk of fish dripping oily tomato sauce everywhere.
    General comments: Great channel.
    I don't know why I enjoy watching ration reviews. I guess it's just a weird food-porn fetish.

      +insert name total brain fart: I meant 'rips', not tyttebær.
      Too early in the morning.

    I know I´m more than a year late, but I really appreciate how you find the freeze dried food! Here in Norway, Real Turmat is used frequently by many, when hiking, camping or just staying outside for a long period of time. they are lightweight, and take little space when we pack them up :) Hope you were able to buy some more, or I can buy some for you and ship it if you´d like!

      I still haven't managed to sample the ready to eat Turmat yet something always seems to come up. It would be a treat. Cheers!

    On the bottom ends, they are glued/melted together. If you rip them apart and bend them slightly outwards they stand sturdier, and if you fold over the top (wear gloves) and pinch the zip thingy, you can somewhat safely shake the crap out of it and you will get the stuf in the corner mixed in as well. You just might not need to stir it with a spoon.

    When you get bored of the food (which you do) - You just hook up with the MP's and borrow their pepper spray and do a quick spray into the baggy when you add water :)

    been on Drytech website some of there stuff looks awesome, i think you could be spending a bit on there. also noticed that each of those food pouches contain more energy than a complete MRE.

    Great review. Agreed, opening from sides, easier. The Lamb completely fills up the space in the tray, full meal. I have never tried lamb. Gator, snake, turtle ,shark, bison, emu, ostrich, I have, never had opportunity to try lamb. From the south, hard to believe , I know. Glad you are good with ML, DL, if it ain't Ounces, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, canteen cup, I'm lost., LOL ! Glad you like bolognaise. Hot toddy? unsure of, lol. Best I can tell, possibly needs A shot of something, or 3.Peace, John, AKA Magnum.

    We had these during my service in the Swedish Military as well. I really disliked the dried food needing added water. It was all just like porridge. I only ate the breakfast and then ate crackers and such for lunch and dinner, we also had nuts and other things.

    What is the average cost of an mre?

    • @gundog4314
      @gundog4314  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tripcore I can only speak for the US as I don't know other countries budgets but for a basic MRE the cost is 5 to 6 dollars.

      Also, on a side note, i've been thinking about this for a while. I believe that the tears are predominantly on the top side versus being on the side because of how you, me, everyone else usually, habitually lays a pack down. I mean, it might be complete guessing, but, a taller package might be easier to lay rather than a short long one.
      I know i'm reaching for it here, but, i have a bit of designer background and it's a common thing to design items with this kind of thinking in the background. No..better said, we're ingrained not to think with certain elements, they are from school put forth as "bad".
      IMO, that's why those that design outside the box are those that shine and those that stick to the well beaten path, well, it depends on how good one is at what one does.
      Well, that's my two cents. Again, i'm not sure myself this is the reason, but it is one thinking path.

    • @gundog4314
      @gundog4314  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +aserta I don't know the theory or logic behind it either. Some companies like Bla Band make a side (longwise) opening with a stand on the bottom. I think it all comes down to cost and what you have on hand for packaging. Cheers

    Why do you eat all the meals with the crackers?? Having eaten a ton of FRs, ive never even thought of eating the main meal with the crackers. You eat the meal straight out of the pouch with a spoon. We usually just tossed away the crackers.
