- I wanted a winch to get myself out of sticky situations but also wanted to avoid ruining the look of the front. A lot of mount kits mount too far forward or require use of a winch bumper to tuck it away neatly. So, I decided to fabricate my own mount and make some modifications to the winch, in order to tuck it all away inside the bumper and I'm really pleased with how it turned out! I also do a brief run-down of other things I've done to the vehicle, but I must remember to disconnect the sway bar links next time we go out truckin'.
Let me know what you think in the comments and you might win a Destroy or Die OG Logo tee.
The winch is a Stealth V2 13500lb with a synthetic rope. For the price it seemed pretty well made and ticked the boxes for what I wanted. However, as this is the first time I have fitted and used a winch, some time using it will be needed to see if I made the right choice!

Great vid
It looks so odd I own the same colour as you but mine has bull bars currently toying with the idea of popping a winch on the front but on the fence about it as unsure if it'll look right
Why didn't you make a mounting plate that goes on the bottom of the chassis rails and picks up on the original tow point bolt holes. This would then mount the winch lower and obscure the radiator less.
A low mounted winch would reduce the clearance for steep approach angles and require more of the bumper cutting out which I didn’t want to do.
Do you have more photos from instalation? did you move the radiator towards the engine?
I don't think I have any more photos but the only thing I modified was one of the A/C lines as it ran right through where the winch sits and then the condenser mounts. I plan to get a new one made up soon and re-gas the system so I will try to show more then. The radiator is in the stock position and the A/C condenser still sits just in front of it in the factory spot too.
@@DESTROYORDIE thanks! I must do the same in my 4r :)
