  • In this video I'll show you how to install the Hidden Winch Mount by AMP'd Up LLC. This install was performed on a 2002 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner. However the install is pretty much the same for all 3rd generation 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner.

    Great detailed video with clear instructions. Been thinking about one of these for my 2002. Look forward to the bumper mod video

    Did you ever do the bumper modification? I would like to see

      I never got around to it. The bumper I had on hand was all smashed up so it wouldn't fit onto my car to properly show you all where to make the cuts.
      My advice is to try using a dremel with a metal cut off wheel. It worked very well for me. Small and easy to maneuver in those tight corners. Perhaps there's a better tool for the job... But dremel was the first tool I tried and I loved how it performed. Also, it didn't leave too many rough edges that would need sanding after it's all cut up.

    Great video. Thanks. I can’t seem to find the link for the bumper mod video

      I have not uploaded a bumper mod video yet. I'd like to see lots of interest for one first. The reason being, the style of the stock bumpers change a lot over the 3rd gen years. Therefore the way you'd modify your bumper is going to be based on the style of factory bumper, your chosen Winch manufacturer/model and even "how" you want your hidden winch to look. The AMP'd Up LLC website has a lot of great photos showing the various styles you can modify your bumper to look like. Additionally you can check out the AMP'd Up LLC Facebook group. Lots of design inspirations there.

    Great job on this, excellent instructions! I have a ‘98, so a little different, but this is extremely helpful. Looking forward to watch the bumper mod.
    What kind of paint did you use? Did you sand, prime, etc?

      Awesome, thank you! I had mine professionally powder coated. They sand blast it and properly prepare the bare metal and then they hit it with a red textured powder coat. The powder coat paint is made the company Cardinal and the paint code is RD-129. So you can go to any professional powder coater and ask to do yours in Cardinal RD-129.

      I’m trying to install my winch mount, and it doesn’t seem to want to clear the radiator bracket as I’m lifting it up toward the frame to bolt it in. Do you have any trouble or have to trim that radiator bracket any?

      Are you using an aftermarket radiator?

    • @eljefeslash
      @eljefeslash 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@4lockedoffroad I did replace it a few months ago. OEM, though, at least I ordered and bought it from my local Toyota dealership. It didn’t appear to be significantly different than the original when I swapped it out.

      @@eljefeslash Have you reached out to Albert @ AMP'd Up LLC? He may be able to assist you better. I have a 2002 4Runner so perhaps the radiator design changed with the newer years. However as far as I know there's been no issues installing the AMP'd Up winch mount on '98 4Runners. I wonder if Toyota changed the OEM design or didn't give you quite the right one?

    Did you install the battery disconnect for the winch? And if so where’d you put it?

    • @4lockedoffroad
      @4lockedoffroad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't install the battery disconnect for the winch. I agree they solve a potential short-circuit problem, but I didn't have room to install it. Later down the road I hope to design a nice battery tray for myself that will provide a winch battery disconnect mount.
      EDIT: Before I made the decision to not install the battery disconnect switch I asked several friends of mine that have been offroading for a long time. They don't run winch battery disconnect switches.
