  • As many of you may already know I absolutely love to explore new and emerging shoe brands and TLB Mallorca has been one of my favorites this past year. TLB is making some incredibly beautiful and high quality shoes for a unbeatable price.
    I first fell in love with my Artista Adelaide in museum calf:
    • Unboxing and first shi...
    Then I picked up a pair of wingtips from the main line in Old England leather:
    • Unboxing and first shi...
    And finally I made a quick video comparing and contrasting the two:
    • TLB Mallorca: Comparin...
    And now I decided to try out their customization tool. I really wanted a burgundy monkstrap in burgundy museum calf but that unfortunately wasn't an option. However with the customization tool I was able to design a Monkstrap on the Alan last only found on the main line and combine it with the burgundy museum calf only found on the artista line. I was also able to get the city rubber sole to try out and compare to the leather soles of the other pairs. I am thrilled with this pair and will definitely be looking to create another pair with this customization tool in the near future.
    I shined these up using Pure Polish high shine wax, Dornstar shines shine cloth (check him out on TH-cam : / dorn0114
    water dispenser from Shoe Care Shop and the high shine chamois from Hanger Project. Let me know if you have any questions about the shoes or any of the products in my videos. Hope you will enjoy it!

    Beautiful table! True hallmark of a dye artist!

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yep. It was Grandmothers table. Used to have a strange wallpaper covering on the top and I stripped it and have used it for a patina table. Lots of dyes and polishes spilled on this thing now...It is developing its own patina over time.

    • @hanwenyap
      @hanwenyap 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mbshoedoc I do this in the apartment's marble floor. While I do wipe off dye stains ASAP, it is starting to take on a patina too... With blue, green, burgundy and a lot of different colors.
      I'm looking to get a solid workbench for my work as the tables at my place ain't cutting it.

    City rubber sole or the vibram?

      This is the city rubber soul. Nice and thin like the leather version and not too heavy.

    I just placed an order using their customization tool. The owner has been emailing me back and forth for almost a month to figure out the right size and last for my wider feet. Really nice guy. I’m having an Adelaide made with old England brown with JR soles I can’t wait to get my hands on!!
    What color polish would you use on this burgundy meuseum? I have a similar color shoe from cobbler union (they call it oxblood museum) and I tried mahogany but it brought out too much brown.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For museum pairs I tend to use neutral only. There is enough color variation going on so you don't really need to change it with tinted cream. In fact unless I am adding burnishing or coloring in a scuff etc I just use neutral on everything.

    Which last is this, and which width? Also, how much it took from the order placing till they shipped it to you? Thank you!

      It should be in the video and description. Keaton model, Alan last, standard width F and took maybe 2-3 weeks to get them. 👍

    I want to do the tlb custom, but I’m stuck on the Vegeno and the museum leather 🤷🏾‍♂️ I want dark brown but it only comes in vegeno. So what’s the difference?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vegano is going to be more traditional flat coloration brown where museum calf is mottled. Check my other TLB unboxing and you can see the brown museum calf. It has more color variations than the burgundy does. Other than that both leathers are of equal quality. I personally really like the marbled look of museum calf.

    • @mbshoedoc

  • @errolmacdonald3256

    The rubber sole was an inspired choice! In the side view they look just like black leather soles - which go great with the colour of the uppers - but with the durability & flexibility of rubber. You could even wax'em on the edge to make them shine like leather soles.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general I prefer leather soles and the TLB Artista leather soles are amazingbut I definitely appreciate having at least a few rubber soled pairs in the collection for bad weather days....and I agree these are nice and thin and are a great option. Almost as dressy with greatly improved traction and maybe a little comfort as well.

    How would you compare these to your Beckett Simonon Bordeaux Hoyt Monk straps?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      TLB is a significant improvement over BS. I was never fully satisfied with the Beckett leather after wearing them for a week. They crease heavily. The TLB is nicer in every way. Better construction better leather and better fit and details. No contest. But TLB costs a fair bit more. Beckett is a fine entry level shoe for the price but TLb is more of a solid mid tier. Hope that helps.

    • @foodandbourbon7737
      @foodandbourbon7737 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for your reply. I would have to agree with you. However, I believe they’re using a different tannery in Italy vs the Argentinian leather. I have multiple pairs of both BS and TLB. My BS hasn’t crease more than normal, but still as you say and I agree TLB is the better quality shoe all around the fit is incredible, and the leather is outstanding. I’m enjoying my BS, but I love my TLB shoes.

    Since Brexit I am now going to be buying more European mainland shoes rather than my favourite British shoes...really the price difference is now huge with import taxes and not be able to easily exchange.. Anyway I am just deciding on either the Carmina or TLB double monks in Burgundy. The Cordovan versions are rather expensive but seem to have a better color, don ´t you think ? Otherwise in terms of Carmina or TLB I just dont know...really I dont know. I need the shoes to last a long time and TLB seem to crease more from what some reviews have said. What do you think? Thank you once again for the informative video. In the future perhaps you could teach us how to mix colours (Navy cream on Burgundy seems very fashionable at the moment).

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cordovan shoes are indeed beautiful and more pricey. Totally different leather that many love and others don't see the appeal. I would go Carminas Cordovan or TLB museum calf. I have not had an issue with the amount of creasing on my TLB but it is true my Carminas show less of it. Shell Cordovan doesn't crease the same way at all and creates gentle rolls and ripples over time. Again some people like that better and others don't. Between the two brands it is a close call. It comes down to which brand has the better fit for you or the last and color you like best. Both are high quality.

      I have found the same with Cobbler Union and Vass burgundy museum as well. All of them seem a little dark to my eye. On the other pairs I rubbed them with alcohol, and pure polish cleaner conditioner which pull d off a little of the dark finish allowing more red to show through.

    How can I customize a mainline shoe, as I don’t see that as an option on the web site?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You go to the customize and then select any model you want. Any oxford, loafer or monkstrap other than the Artista section will be a mainline model. Just like mine here in the video. The model and last is mainline but at the time the museum calf leather only came on Artista. I liked this monkstrap design better than the Artista Monks.
