This is one of the rarest educative, still descriptive video review. The video says a lot on your work and how structured you are, alike the product described in the video.

    Wonderful finished shoes but other counter questions to your AE comparison. 1) Can you locate a store to try on different lasts/models and find your perfect fit ? and see actual colors ? 2) Are the shoes available for closer to $200-250 during the year on sale ? 3) Can you travel through an airport or secured building without taking off your shoes ? 4) Can you send the shoes to the factory for a complete refurbishing ? 5) Do you value American made ? Just points to consider.

    I've send TLB some questions regarding sizing and MTO shoes a couple of times the last few days and Toni, the founder, answered really quickly with all the needed information. It is good to see the founder be this involved in the easy things like answering inquiry emails. I currently have a couple pairs of Carmina shoes, but after having some terrible customer service with Carmina. (They send me 70 euro shoe trees which weren't finished properly. A really rough edge on the bottom damaged the shoe, sadly didn't catch the edge before it was to late. They answered really slowly and it basically came down to 'sucks to be you') So I'll likely be ordering some TLB shoes soon. Thanks for the review, really shows the quality you get for the money you spend!

  • @clemensgabriel30

    Do you prefer TLB over Yearn? I´m really interested what do you think? Love your videos!

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Great question. It is a difficult comparison, as they are ultimately in two different orbits. Yearn is higher quality in terms of construction. It is also almost $100 more, so it should be. In general, I am more inclined toward the more subtle, contemporary, angular, low-profile designs that come from Asiatic makers, though that is just my personal preference and not a value assessment. European designs tend to be a bit more round, curvaceous, and 'big' (in a subtle sense) - what you might consider 'classic', as opposed to contemporary.
      TLBM has been operating longer, to my knowledge, and it shows. They exude a level of refinement that I think Yearn is still working on. It is also easier to hit 'peak refinement' when ample machinery is being used in the process, as opposed to fully handmade. Yearn is indeed working on it, though. I have seen pictures and they have substantially improved their shoes even since my video on them - and they were already the best in their class.
      Both are ultimately the best value in their respective class, and not that far off in quality anyway, so I think if price is no object to you, I'd pick whichever shoe is more compelling to you in terms of design.
      I know that is slightly a non-answer - does that help? You are welcome to inquire further.

    • @clemensgabriel30
      @clemensgabriel30 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What do you think, is difference between Carmina and TLB Mallorca? And Thanks for the long and good answer!

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@clemensgabriel30 TLBM is easily the better value. As far as the better shoe, more objectively, still TLBM for most models. I'm sure Carmina has some shoes better than TLBM, though they will be upwards of double the price. I think TLBM has nicer Lasts in general, though that is my personal opinion.

    • @clemensgabriel30
      @clemensgabriel30 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DressWell.Madaras that is my problem with TLBM i like more modern italian last and Carmina has with the Baltix last the perfect one for that and I prefer looks than quality. The question is: Is Carmina so much worse when it comes to quality? Thanks for your answer!

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@clemensgabriel30 Carmina is relatively fair market value. TLBM is just unreasonably exceptional in its value - hence my showcasing it - but by no means does that condemn Carmina. Carmina is a respectable maker and produces high quality shoes. They are getting pricey as their brand grows, though not to the point where I would consider them a 'bad deal'. Looks are important - arguably more so than construction & materials - so if you like Carmina's Lasts, I'd say go for it!

    This seems very impressive... I don't understand shoes as well as you do, but I wanted to say that the Grant Stone Oxford has very similar if not better construction at a similar/lesser price. Wouldn't they be a better comparison?

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thank you for the comment! Without getting too deep into it, just looking at the product page, here is a list of shortfalls of the GS Oxford, by comparison to TLBM:
      - Open Channel Sole
      - Uneven Heel Stack Layers
      - Lumpy Heel Side-Profile
      - Tab covering the Stay Stitch (I am not sure what exactly this tab does/covers, though it is only present on lower-quality shoes and has an unappealing loose/flappy quality to it)
      - Awkward Swan's Neck geometry
      - It appears to be 6 SPI on the Sole Stitch
      - Weak Welt Fudging
      - Sole Stitch wide out on the edge of the Welt
      - Uninspired Last, just kind of basic, a little wide on the toe (my opinion, to be fair)
      There is not much information on the materials. They say they have a leather Heel Counter, which is nice, if true. I'd like to cut them open and actually see. The lumpiness of the side-profile does not inspire confidence. Even if true, you lose alot of important qualities in exchange for it. Personally, I would much rather have Close-Channel Stitching than a leather Heel Counter.
      That said, they're not terrible. There's far better deals out there, though I'd probably rather have them than AE. I think the weird Swan's Neck makes them look pretty cheap, though. I think a nice, simple curve would really help the shoe.

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hard to say. I am not intimately familiar with EG, but most English stuff these days seems a bit overpriced for what else is on the market. I don't know that EG is a bad deal - and their last is definitely more refined - but I personally would rather have 3-4 TLBM's for the price of 1 EG. Easily superior value with TLBM imo.

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Not super familiar, though I get asked it alot so I may do a video on them at some point. Generally, they seem pricey for what they are, which is how I feel about most English stuff these days. The lasts are a bit dull for my taste, but I know some people like the simplicity of them. Outside of personal preference for last design, I don't really see any reason to go with C&J over TLBM.

    Bought the 198's and returned them for 112's (Goya last, no gooseneck stitch). I can go for Picasso or Van Gogh lasts if the shoe is a bit more complicated, more brogueing, more stitching. For a plain cap toe, Goya works best for me. The shoes are svelte and sexy, Toni knows what he's doing.

    • @DressWell.Madaras
      @DressWell.Madaras  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great thinking - I actually almost got the 112's because I thought their Goya last would make for a great showcase of a well-proportioned round-toe. I ended with the 198's, though, because I thought the Swan Neck was just so well done. One day I will have to take a look at their Goya, as it is definitely a pinnacle of classic, timeless shoe design.

    With the Allen Edmunds shoes if you have seen a pair in person; they are the least best looking shoes. I owned a pair and, I ended up selling them. This factor of ashhetics when you are wearing a really nice suit does not go well if you end up wearing an AE shoe. I have a MTO pair in their Artista range in E width. It fits very well. It is a good buy especially at the price.

    Insane video :) Thanks for providing this to all of us. Have a question, is there a good dress shoe forum, where people discuss for example tlb mallorca vs yearn vs yeossal etc, etc?

      Thank you, sir.
      Styleforum.net is the best place that I know of for those kinds of higher-level footwear and overall classic menswear discussions.
