  • I am so happy with this Adelaide from TLB Mallorca. This is from their higher end Artista line and they squeeze an incredible amount of high end features into this shoe at mid tier pricing. I honestly don't know how they do it! I think the Artista represents a tremendous value. This is the 107 model on the Picasso last in Marron Medio Museum calf. Absolutely stunning leather and the slimmest beveled waist on any shoe in my collection! Goodyear welted with closed channel stitching, highest quality leather with serious attention to the sole work as well. Definitely a brand I have no hesitation in recommending.

    Check out my friend Andy at Pure polish products. His high shine wax and brown paste wax were used to achieve the mirror shine: www.purepolishproducts.com/co...
    The Saphir renovateur conditioning lotion and the handy water dispenser came from my friends over at The Shoecare Shop. I also have a discount code for them "shoedocshine"

      Thank you much. Unfortunately I do not own any Vass shoes but have done some work on them. (next video I release will be Vass so stay tuned). The Vass pair is a different style. It is undeniably high quality but not as sleek and elegant as the TLB. It's hand welted construction and built like a tank. It felt incredibly robust in my hands. I think it's a shoe that would last decades no problem. So from my limited experience I can say that it's an impressive shoe and I want a pair but it's a very different niche in my mind. Hope that helps.

    I have literally had the window open on the TLB Mallorca website for a pair of blucher's from their artista collection (in their awesome burgandy color) for two weeks, but after seeing your beautiful pair of shoes, I want those as well, lol. I don't know why I'm so nervous about making the purchase. How have the shoes been for you? How about the sizing? Was it a problem for you?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quality is outstanding but I did end up sizing down on these. I'm 8.5 in Allen Edmonds but for these I took UK 7 instead of the normal UK 7.5. if you have a lower instep or if you are on the low side of your size go down 1.5. if you are true to size or on the larger size take 1 less than your US size.

    • @Naurif
      @Naurif 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mbshoedoc Thank you very much! I'm usually an 11/11.5 US. Last month, I ordered a pair of Paul Evans Chelsea boots in 10UK, and they're so tight that I actually had to buy a shoe stretcher--a little too narrow for me. Two weeks ago, I ordered a pair of double monk straps from Paul Evans in 10.5UK. Thank goodness for the strap and buckles, because if it was any other shoe, it would probably slip off my foot. So I guess this has been what's been preventing me from pulling the trigger on a pair of LB Mallorca's beautiful shoes. Thanks for the tips and responding! You've been a big help! • @mbshoedoc

      I apply a few layers by fingertips only to build a base with no buffing. Then I introduce a cloth, minimal wax and a drip of water. I use cut up tshirts or flannel shine cloths and don't have a true favorite. For the final stage I have really liked the high shine chamois from hanger project. • @mbshoedoc

      I find the pure polish to shine just as well as the Saphir and I wanted to show what could be done with it. I use both brands interchangeably. And honestly I'm not sure on the welt but guess 270. Since it's closed channel you can't see the stitching underneath and the heel is so closely cut I can't see stitching there either. It's just a construction aspect that I don't consider much. I don't think it is mentioned on their website. To me 270/360 are both exceptionally well constructed there wouldn't be much of a functional benefit from one or the other. I feel it's more a manufacturer preference.

    Hello, thanks for sharing, the TLB Artista are a beauty !
    However I don't think you're giving your shoes a favour by mirror-shining them before the first few wears. With the heat caused by the first wears, the shoes will still adjust to your feet and "move around" a bit after you've bought them. Small creases (normal) will also start to appear.
    If you immediately mirror-shine them, you increase the risk of cracking.
    In addition, by shining and mirror-shining immediately the shoes you are basically filling the pores of the leather which will absorb everything that you give to it. Leather is basically animal skin (duhh) and at first its pores are relatively "open". It's best to wait a bit for the pores to close before you start applying any type of wax on the shoes.
    In the end, wax is a "surface product", it is not made to penetrate the shoes like shoe cream. It should stay on the surface.
    I would say that 4-5 wears is a minimum. That's when you want to start applying the mirror shine if you so desire.
    I hope this is helpful !
    Cheers,
    Martin

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. I have been lucky so far and not had many issues with cracking but your right that there is a risk when you don't know where it will crease. Also consider I am not just applying wax but conditioning the leather before wearing them. Wax is primarily only applied to the to the toe and heel counters. I think shining before wearing is reasonable but I agree a full mirror could wait...but it makes for a better video 😉

      interesting, I really didn't notice at all. I see what you mean there is an indent around each eyelet that I don't really see on my other shoes. It doesn't bother me at all but I also don't see it from other makers. Not sure if it is done on purpose as a design element or just due to a particular manufacturing method.

      Exactly my thoughts. They are beautiful nonetheless.
      Thanks for the video. Your shining skills are very good. Were they influenced by Yuya Hasegawa of The Armoury, by any chance?
      Cheers

      @@LDacic Thanks. I wasn't really influenced by anyone in particular. I started by refurbishing ebay pairs and reselling them. That led to doing patinas and shines on my own personal pairs and then led to doing it for clients. My primary platform is Instagram but trying to grow my YT.

    condition on new shoes - > big mistake

      Nope, it worked out perfectly fine. Now if it was a brand new light tan shoe it would be a little more risky. A dark brown museum calf shoe...zero risk.
