@@Improveng1 thanks Stan, really appreciate you watching, commenting and subscribing. There will be a first camp in the Aldi tent coming up on Thursday night.
Hi keV, your reviews are very good. The Aldi is an update of 70s of what we knew as a 2 man coffin squeeze tent (pitch the low end into the wind and they'll withstand gale force winds), and the sort of tent I'd take as a solo tent for backpacking long distance trails like the Pennine Way where carrying less weight is preferable for covering 15 to 20 miles a day (the furthest I did in a day with full loaded backpack/similar tent was 36 miles over the Lake District on Wainwright's Coast to Coast in '89). The Lidl tent would be most ideal for a couple doing a long distance trail, because it affords the most room and easy access and because, presumably, the inner and outer could be split so the load was shared between the walking buddies. I only backpack in summer these days and use a military poncho or basha and a lightweight bivvy bag these days to keep the weight to a minimum on a trek as I'm just a couple of years off 70. I also have a 2 man cotton canvas (warmer than man made fabrics, totally breathable, so no condensation) French military surplus traditional ridge tent for base camping, but I could only sit up under the ridge due to slanting walls. I decided I wanted more sit up room, so a couple of weeks ago, I bought a very similar dome type tent to the Lidl one you've reviewed. Cost me £60, aluminium poles etc, so I wish I'd seen one of the Lidl ones in my local store, but I don't think they ever came in. My videos aren't as professional as yours but you can see the stuff I use on my channel. I'll be using the new dome tent in Cornwall in September for a 3 week base camp on a campsite, but I'll probably also be doing a minimal load coastal walk over a few days wild camping with poncho/bivvy bag shelter.
The Lidl looks great, just a Lidl bit on the heavy side, I'd prefer less than 2.5kg. such a shame about the not so camouflaged colour, the green is a bit garish. FANTASTIC comparison video. Your presenting skills are excellent
Thanks Kev. No contest. The Aldi tent would be like sleeping in a bin bag. The Lidl tent is far superior in every aspect and would be a pleasure to use.
Ha ha, I don't think the Aldi one is that bad. Certainly not a 2 person but decent room for one, apart from maybe lengthwise. But the Lidl tent materials feel a lot nicer on first impressions.
Great reviews! I picked up the lidl tent in the summer. I use it for camps down the beach near an open fire where i dont care if it smells of smoke or possibly gets damaged!
I've just bought the aldi tent, put it up but never used it yet, looks good tent for a one person stealth tent,I would put a cheap groundsheet underneath, change the pegs, and all you could ask ,got it for 8 quid!!
Yeah, I got a second one for £7.99 as well. Great little tent for that money. I've done two mountain summit camps in it with quite a bit of wind and it's handled it fine.
Great comparison thanks Kev. I am definitely a Lidl fan and good to see the Lidl tent beats the Aldi tent on price, quality, function, space, everything except weight. I look forward to the camping experience video when you have it.
I've always thought Lidl gear (Crane & Crivit) to be far superior to Aldi's Adventuridge stuff. If that Crivit tent wasn't as heavy, I'd be tempted to get one! Great vid.
Thanks Gaz. I've got bits and pieces of both and am happy with them. I probably own more Lidl stuff because I've shopped there more for food. I've got a review of the Aldi £14.99 sleeping bag coming up as it's currently in store and I thought it was worth a punt!
I would consider the lidl tent, not the Aldi. I appreciate the Aldi offering might be better in high wind, due to the low profile but if you was more serious the vango banshee would be the obvious choice for the extra cost. For general camping the crivit looks the best option. Thanks for another great, honest review.
Thanks Michael for watching and commenting. I've had a night in the Aldi tent now, summit camped in high winds, it did well. Video up soon. I'll try and get out in the Lidl tent Asap.
My lad used the Aldi tent last week for a few nights backpacking in Orkney. As he's a newbie I had to put it up a couple of times for him. So this is why I know there are 17 pegs that come with it, enough to peg out the 4 guy lines as well. It lashed it down on the last night and all was well inside. Its cheap and cheerful but I'd definitely look at spending more to get better quality if using it a lot. Great video mate👍
Thanks for the review Kev: My vote would go to the Lidl tent, which is akin to the Vango Torridon 200, (my goto tent). The Aldi tent is a cheap rip-off of the (DOE award recommended) Vango 'Banshee' 200, (my motorcycling tent). Both have their pro's & cons, but pitted head-to-head, there's no contest. Lidl all the way!!!
Thanks Alan, I must admit I'm looking forward to taking the Lidl tent out. I will use the Aldi one again in some heavy rain at some point. Being out in pretty much any tent is great, so they are all brilliant in a way...
The tester is a bit biased. The Aldi tent has not been set up yet. The difference of 1 kg is a lot, both tents have different areas of use. With UL tents, there are often compromises if we don't want to spend 500-1000 euros
I'll wild camped in the Aldi tent a couple of times now, it's fine, but never a two man tent. It is a lot lighter though, you're right that with lightweight gear you often have to compromise.
I found the Lidl tent on eBay and it arrived yesterday. Pitched in the garden and it’s excellent. Paid a little over the odds (£59) but still a massive bargain. The headroom is brilliant and the inner and outer together pitch is great. It’s still compact enough to take backpacking and bike camping IMO and I’d happily cut back on weight elsewhere to gain all that liveable space. It’s also freestanding apart from the vestibules so you can reposition easily to make the most of the views and prevailing winds.
Nice one Eddie. Glad you like it. I think the extra weight is OK given the space you get. A comfy tent to spend time in. Thanks for sharing and good luck with it!
I only saw one two-person tent, so hard to compare like that. But even solo I'd go with the Lidl unless weight was a major factor. One can always add or change pegs, ropes, vent-props, etc to best fit your own needs for nearly nothing in cost, which can vastly improve most tents regardless of their price; the better tents only need less of this.
I can see the Aldi for a bit of bicycle camping and the Lidl for motorcycle camping trips. Few tents are ever honest with their person capacity. If I had to choose one it would be the Lidl offering (they also have a good beer choice 🤓) Excellent and fair reviews 👍
The Lidl tent is also sold in Decathlon in the uk.. also available in their fresh&black colour scheme. I have it in green just like the lidl tent and in white reflective with black inner tent (fresh&black) which keeps mega cool in direct sunlight and is a blackout tent until you unzip the inner to let some light in. I already knew the the Lidl would win when I recognised it.
@@TheWalkingKev not sure, but I know what you mean about taughtness of the fly when stretching to fit the poles. Both mine are like that but the skin is tight as a drum and great in a storm for that money

I checked the Aldi and Lidl tents in Germany-predominately tents from Aldi and Lidl have fiber glas poles. Could hardly find any with aluminium poles! So you get the better spec ones in the UK ;-) As you pointed out-very different usage profiles. The Aldi one if you want to do stealthy, undetected camping in areas where you being there is...questionable. For one person that would work. The Lidl one is if you are going with a two-person excursion that is more civilized ;-) As always-the right tool for the mission. I am too old for the military style-neither my bones nor my girth are suited for that. So probably the Lidl one would be the way to go. If you would go out doing CB-radio stuff you could sit in the Ldl one, and have a brew and talk skip. Looking forward to your real world reviews ;-) Thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. Yes, the Lidl tent is going to be a really spacious camp! I've taken the Aldi one out for a summit camp in high winds, it did well. Video up on Thursday.
@@TheWalkingKev I've got the OEX Phoxx 1 and Bobcat so want something with a bit more room and I've seen other TH-camrs demonstrate how waterproof etc. the Adventuridge 2 man is so I'm sure if it pisses it down which is more then likely in Wales I'll be fine 😆
The LIDL tent looks like a Vango copy. Most 2-Man tents are really only for one person and their kit but the Lidl tent will work with two vestibules. 3000HH is good but I didn't hear if you said either had been seam sealed. Thats crucial.
@@TheWalkingKev Some cheaper brands don't bother sealing the seams. I bought a eurocamp teepee tent last year and seam sealed it myself. Used it this weekend and it worked a treat in the rain. Encouraging to know that Lidl and Aldi do seam seal their products. 👍
@@chriscoyle1221 I didn't realise cheap tents didn't seal the seams, I wrongly assumed they all would be sealed! Thanks for letting me know, I'll be sure to mention that in future reviews rather than assuming.
At the start I was thinking that the Aldi tent would be ideal as a 1 person tent if you switched the pegs for some aluminium ones but it looks to be too short even for that so thank you for an honest review. The Lidl tent looks like it would be fine for going away with my grandson when he is older but we would be going in the car or on bikes because of the extra weight I would end up taking (not just the tent but some of his kit).
I think it is too short. I'm writing this on top of a mountain, in the Aldi tent and I seem to be touching the ends with my feet and head at the same time. Shame really.
aldi tent for the kids Lidl tent for the wife and me. older adults (50 +) need that extra headroom for a bit of comfort, Cheers Kev ATVB2U from Scott Somerset
For me, it would be more about the conditions I would be in, but I have bought a similar tent to that Aldi model, although mine is longer at 240cms. I’m referring to the Highlander Blackthorn 1man tent. That kind of height is the best for stealth camping. It would likely fair better in a windy environment, better than a taller tent. The weight is also another consideration to make. If it wasn’t stealth camping and I had a car, it would be the Lidl tent. I wouldn’t buy that Aldi tent though as it’s way too short. Maybe a kid would love it.
The Highlander tent sounds interesting. I think if I'm going low and stealthy I'd take the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1 out. The Aldi tent is pretty solid, camped in it last night in high winds and it was fine, but a little flappy!
Aldi tent would be just okay for me for an emergency tent for a one night stop as I am 5ft 2in in height. Too tight a squeeze for anyone else and would hate to be the person tucked away from the opening. The Lidl tent seemed like good value for money. I suppose the manufacturers can do it because they crib their designs from other tent producers. Lots of useful features inside especially the pockets and light holder. Looking forward to see how they hold up in the tests.
Thanks Heather, appreciate the comment. The Aldi I took on a summit camp in high winds, video up on Thursday. The Lidl tent hopefully I'll get out in soon.
@@TheWalkingKev Unfortunately my evening activities got in the way! I missed the start too, so I'll have to come back to watch it right the way through uninterrupted 👍
I would take the Aldi, just because I always camp alone. The Lidl one is better all around. I also never take in consideration the advertised 1, 2 or six person. It is ludicrous at best!
Yes, a lot of 2 person tents are only suitable for 1 person. I'm writing this from my Aldi tent on top of a mountain. It has taken a battering from the wind all night. Survived without issue though.
Great review Kev. I liked the LIdl tent best, it looked like it would be very usable and the design was clever. The Aldi tent might be serviceable, but more for a serious stealth camper.
The Lidl tent looks like a superior two person tent by any judgement. Perhaps the Aldi tent would be better recommended as a roomy, value for money, one person backpacking tent - there is a bit of a weight penalty compared with similar more expensive tents but not that much. And at under £50 that's not bad. Most manufacturers, even of expensive tents, are lying about them being suitable for two persons.
Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed the review, well presented and very informative… I think the first tent (Lidl one)? looked a pretty decent tent for the money, be handy for local overnighters, well thought out and some decent features and space. The second one (Aldi)? hmmmm, not so sure , but cramped, personally prefer headroom etc… enjoyed the video, thanks again… ATB 👍
Thanks for watching and the nice comments. I've done my first overnight in the Aldi tent now - summit camp in the Brecon Beacons and it handled some decent winds well, but it is a fraction short on length in my opinion, too much time with head and feet touching either end...
That was really entertaining. Very good video. The Aldi tent is very similar to the OEX Phoxx II, but it's missing the foot vent and the second door, as well as key features like the prop to hold the vents open and some additional pole clips. Both tents look as though they'd stand up to a bit of weather though, so fair play to both supermarkets! Well done Kev 👍
@@TheWalkingKev Only for wilder autumn and winter camping. The Lidl tent would be a decent bet for fair weather camping I reckon, if budget was everything.
Lidl if it's for two definitely. I'd just get the mongar 2 for the extra money it's worth it for me. On a very strict budget the Lidl is pretty unbeatable
@@TheWalkingKev I've yet to really put mine through its paces but it certainly seems well made. Worth checking out sone reviews. I love how spacious mine is for the weight. Similar design to the Lidl tent but more premium level materials.
Thank you for the interesting review of both tents. I already bought the Crivit 2 person tent from Lidl before watching the video. And it's still packed because I haven't used it yet. But according to your presentation, I made a good decision. My only concern is the weight, because 2.75 kg is not that little for longer tracking. I'll see when I carry it for the first time... 😉. At our Lidl (Slovenia), the tent cost €99.90 in the regular offer, but I got it for €59.90 in the sale. And I think that's a good price for what you get. And the tent must have a vestibule at least for smelly shoes.👍. And two entrances for this price range of a 2 person tent is just a bonus.
Thanks. It is a good tent, if you look at my latest video I've summit camped in this tent in the wind and rain now. It held up really well, a full video of that out on Monday.
Wow, the ALDI tent was even 10 pounds more? I'd take the LIDL tent if it was 10 pounds more. I had always heard good things about ALDI, but nearly everything I get from there disappoints unless it's extremely basic. This tent is making me wish we had a LIDL by me.
3000HH?? Anything stronger than a light downpour and you're gonna get wet, add in the wind and well, better to throw a good tarp over the lot. I have a Vango Keswick poly tent with 6000HH and it's been in some savage weather up in Scotland. Not a drop got through even with a force 7 wind hitting it. The air tents are much more resilient when it comes to winds as they bend, helping to reduce overall stress on the tent. For good weather cover, both of those tents are decent enough, just don't get caught in bad weather or you'll be wringing out more than your socks..LOL
A lot of tents have 3000mm HH heads, including a lot of Vango ones. I think they'll both be absolutely fine in the rain - but I'll find out when I take them out in the rain when we get some!
@@scotsnomad7395 Except during heavy storms. My old tent was 3000HH and we got caught out in a downpour, the rain was being pushed through the fabric as the wind hit it. This is why I went to polycotton and 6000HH, no more internal showers :)
The Lidl tent is a copy of the Decathlon Forclaz trek 500 but in a better colour, having a tent Similar to the Aldi one it is not a 2 man tent but it is very stable in bad weather
@@TheWalkingKev it does depend though - my ultra lightweight load out is amazing for two or three days, any longer than that and it gets more difficult than my luxury loadout simply because after 3 nights without good sleep, food and camp comfort and I’m useless no matter how light the load.
Just picked up the Adventuridge 2 man tent for £29.99 from Aldi. Going to give it a run out next week.
For that price it's a really great tent. Glad they have lots left to go on sale at that price.
@@OfWodensFolk I've not had it in the rain yet, but I'm sure it'll do fine. I'll take it out in the rain this autumn I'm sure.
The LIDL tent looks like a Vango copy. Most 2-Man tents are really only for one person and their kit but the Lidl tent will work with two vestibules. 3000HH is good but I didn't hear if you said either had been seam sealed. Thats crucial.
Sorry, both have been seam sealed. I assume this is standard unless you're buying silnylon tents which generally aren't (but cost a lot more).
I think I would go to Lidl for the tent and then Aldi for the wine before hitting the Beacons!
Now that sounds like a plan! There is an Aldi in Brecon...
Nice tent reviews. Wishing you a wonderful weekend 👍Lidle tent
Thanks. Have a great weekend yourself.
Thanks Scott, I think you're right about the extra headroom, it makes such a difference in terms of comfort.
Aldi vs Lidl, here we go! Can't get into Live Chat atm.
Which one do you prefer the look of?
@@TheWalkingKev Unfortunately my evening activities got in the way! I missed the start too, so I'll have to come back to watch it right the way through uninterrupted 👍
I would take the Aldi, just because I always camp alone. The Lidl one is better all around. I also never take in consideration the advertised 1, 2 or six person. It is ludicrous at best!
Yes, a lot of 2 person tents are only suitable for 1 person. I'm writing this from my Aldi tent on top of a mountain. It has taken a battering from the wind all night. Survived without issue though.
Lidl every day. Great video.
Thanks James, appreciate you taking the time to comment. Having camped in both I'm definitely favouring the Lidl as well.
Aldi,1 man stealth tent and the weight is good, pegs not a problem
It's a solid choice. I'll take it out soon hopefully.
Im 6'4" tall.
I dont fit in most back packing tents.
I'll keep my 4m x 4m tarp.
Fair play, must be hard to find tents that offer enough length. Tarp is probably the way to go!
Great review Kev. I liked the LIdl tent best, it looked like it would be very usable and the design was clever. The Aldi tent might be serviceable, but more for a serious stealth camper.
I used the Aldi tent last night. It did well during a windy summit camp, but it's just not quite long enough to be really comfy...
If you're at the back Make sure you shake well before you get back in the tent 😉
Sound advice!
@@TheWalkingKev only joking Kev, l think i would go with the Aldi one, looks good for the wind .good for 1 like
@@dontfencemein.6125 The Aldi one should do OK in the wind being nice and low. I'll take it out soon hopefully. Should be nice inside for one.
@@TheWalkingKev Yeah but you're bigger, stronger, younger than me (but not as good looking) to carry it 😉
The Lidl tent looks like a superior two person tent by any judgement.
Thanks for watching and commenting John, appreciate it. Yes, most tent manufacturers are optimistic at best with some of their people ratings!
Cheers. Much appreciated. Do you think the extra £30 for the Phoxx 2 is worth it? I'd be tempted to say yes....
@@TheWalkingKev Only for wilder autumn and winter camping. The Lidl tent would be a decent bet for fair weather camping I reckon, if budget was everything.
What about a stove cookset review alcohol gas titanium aluminium.
I'll try and pick up other Aldi and Lidl stuff when I see it.
Lidl if it's for two definitely. I'd just get the mongar 2 for the extra money it's worth it for me. On a very strict budget the Lidl is pretty unbeatable
Mongar 2 looks interesting, but quite a bit more. Do you think the Mongar 2 can take some bad weather?
Nice 1
Great review 👏
Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it.
The Aldi tent is really 1 man tent …….no doubt about it !
I camped in it and that video will be up this week, confirmed my thoughts it's definitely a one person tent!
Wow, the ALDI tent was even 10 pounds more? I'd take the LIDL tent if it was 10 pounds more. I had always heard good things about ALDI, but nearly everything I get from there disappoints unless it's extremely basic. This tent is making me wish we had a LIDL by me.
The Lidl tent is available on eBay. I was really impressed by it, looking forward to taking it out.
HH3000 is fine for most British conditions…
@@scotsnomad7395 Except during heavy storms. My old tent was 3000HH and we got caught out in a downpour, the rain was being pushed through the fabric as the wind hit it. This is why I went to polycotton and 6000HH, no more internal showers :)
You really remind me of Ray Mears! (compliment)
Ha ha, thanks. He's a true outdoorsman. I'd likely be dead from a poisonous mushroom if I tried to live off the land.
The Lidl tent is a copy of the Decathlon Forclaz trek 500 but in a better colour, having a tent Similar to the Aldi one it is not a 2 man tent but it is very stable in bad weather
Thanks for sharing. I guess a few tent designs might originate from the same factory with a different brand on...
Which tent is BETTER?
Are you asking a question or correcting my English?
The latter.
Lidl for the win.
I'm with you!
Lidl seems to win hands down as 2 man tent thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting David. I'm certainly looking forward to taking it out. I'll be out in the Aldi tent tonight...
only one winner and that is the only 2 person tent there for me
I certainly agree... Subject to further testing!
Lidl tent looks best.
I'm with you on that. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You need your backpack as light as possible for a hike up a mountain for a wildcamp. lightweignt tents win everytime.
There is certainly that argument. Can't deny the 1kg weight saving is a big factor in wanting to take the Aldi tent out.
@@TheWalkingKev it does depend though - my ultra lightweight load out is amazing for two or three days, any longer than that and it gets more difficult than my luxury loadout simply because after 3 nights without good sleep, food and camp comfort and I’m useless no matter how light the load. My heavy pack I can go for weeks on, probably longer!
@@PippetWhippet that's a really interesting point. What extra weight is worth it for a good sleep and comfort on the camp... It's a balance really I guess.
40 pounder for me👍👍👍
You make it sound like some munitions!
One tent one coffin!🤔
Ha ha. The Aldi tent isn't that bad. Plenty of space compared to the real coffin tents!
Bargain tents leak. And I love camping in the rain. Only one I know that doesn't leak is the Coleman brand.
I've had the Lidl one out on a summit camp overnight in plenty of driving rain and it was fine. Fully seam sealed and a decent HH.
The aldi tents more of a 1.5 tent, good value but the highlander 1.5 is a better quality for £69.
I'll have to check that out... Thanks for sharing.
Easy...aldi walking or motorbike adventures, lidl car or longer stays pitched...
Yeah, Aldi tent is certainly lighter to carry. I've still got both tents. Haven't used the Aldi one for a while though.
I once had a tiger paws tent, cost me a £1 Argos return. Used it in a storm never leaked a drop.
Aldi tent has been proofed up, so I'm happy with it.
@@cliffordwells2793 I think I have that tent as well - is this the one? th-cam.com/video/TNiZTf7_8ww/w-d-xo.html
@@TheWalkingKev yes...I think so, my one was green and called tiger paws. I got it in around 2008. It had grass inside so I think used and returned...but £1... bargain. I also have a gelert 3 man and 1
McKinley Dakota 2...both the same size.
And perform the same.
The Aldi 1-man hiking tent cost £19.99 and weight is 1.5kg.
The lidl one by a mile.
I'm with you. Thanks for watching.
Hi kev the Lidl tent hands down it might be 1k more but it's all about comfort for me being able to sit up is a massive bonus to me great video buddy. 🤘🤘🏴🏴🏴
Thanks mate, really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I suspect it's a good size like your Naturehike.
@@TheWalkingKev yeah I was shocked that the Tamar 2 is wider than the cloudpeak 2 same hight, but the Lidl is a £10 cheaper that's a great tent. 🤘🤘🏴🏴🏴
Lidl definitely a better bet.
I'm looking forward to camping in it soon hopefully.
LIDL it is.
Same opinion as me. I'll take the Aldi tent out first I think...
@@TheWalkingKev I have a similar tent to 5he Aldi tent already called a Blackthorn- pretty useful for lightweight camps, especially stealth camps and cycle touring trips. Don't expect too much, they are what they are, a good coating of Nikwax should do the job.
Lidl
Same as my preference so far.
Prefer the Lidl tent because of its height.
I agree
The best is putting it in the drawer of a 5 star hotel.
😁 but would the 5 star hotel offer better views than pitching either of these tents out in the wild?

Go to Banff Spring Hotel. See wild beauty and have room service.

Lidl tent by a mile,
Thanks Greg. I'm certainly looking forward to a spacious camp in it!
They are not owned by the same people I thought they were nothing to see here 🙄🤔
I was about to reply that they're definitely not owned by the same company / people...
Not much else to watch tonight!
This is more important than politics.
They are owned by the same people shame the stores are owned by the same people 🙄😤
As far as I'm aware they are not. They are separate companies.
Great review I appreciate the comparison. Helpful when needing more tent intel 🏕 👀
