Dan I bought the V2 version recently May 15th 2023 there are loops added to the end of the mesh sleeves where the poles go through. This means you can attach the flysheet ties to them and leave it attached. This serves the purpose of being able to pitch the inner tent and flysheet together in one go ( it comes packed this way ). Works a treat ! Regards Bill
Hi Dan I bought this tent on your recommendation, and fair to say I love it. This tent is incredible value for money. In the Scottish Highlands it gets really wet, stayed dry the whole weekend. Thanks again Dan for the fantastic clear and valuable videos mate.
I bought this tent today and straight out the bag the fly is attached to the inner by two ties on the fly and two loops on the inner. I’m not sure if this is a new mod by OEX but I pitched it straight away with the fly already attached. No need to tie to the poles. Check your version to see if you have two loops top and bottom on the inner.
I bought one of these to do a week bike packing the outer Hebrides in may ,7 nights in the wild with wind and rain , never let me down . I did the hack with the para cord that’s on YT,worked great . Only gripe being ,the vestibules are a bit small for brewing up. Done a week in Devon init too recently and it served me well. Great review Dan .
I just bought one of these. They have been slightly modified since this video. The pole sleeves are now longer, so there's only one pole clip. They also have loops sown onto the sleeves for the fly to be tied to. It can, therefore, be either removed or left attached as suits choice. Last night (October) I camped in Edale and it rained very heavily for at least three hours during the night. Cosy & dry inside though. I'm happy with the tent, though I may get a larger one too as, if I'm staying on a site and using a car (or bike) to carry the weight, I'd prefer more head height to sit and undercover storage space (possibly a Coyote 111 or Jackal 11 or 111). Alternatively, a tarp added to this would be good. Overall, I'd say the Phoxx is good for backpacking and overnights sleeping in clothes. I found it very cramped for undressing/dressing in, though, and the small storage areas under the fly are not really useful for doing anything in, such as cooking, if it's raining. My previous tent was a tunnel design as opposed to this side entry style. I noticed that an advantage of the tunnel is that rolling my sleeping bag and mat is easier as the whole length of the tent can be used. This is my first OEX tent. I'm very impressed with it and would definitely buy more of the brand.
I am totally on board with you with OEX stuff, the engineering is great but they need more thought put into it. My OEX X-Lite chair is fab. The OEX table is too light, unstable and blows away. My OEX self-inflating pillow is too small but a great idea if it was triple the length. They need to talk to you and others before they launch new products. Cheers!
This has been my go to tent for a long time because it is just so easy to set up and take down. It’s also the cheapest tent/hammock I own OEX definitely got it right with this tent.
I have this used it for first time last August I think it’s a awesome tent snd is underrated I got mine for £35 best tent I bought along with my MSR elixir 2man I love both equally the same. And being a former marine they are not heavy at all!
I brought mine last year after watching your previous clip, and haven't regretted the purchase. I can't say that I would want to use it for two people sharing though.
Just bought a Phoxx 2 for £70 new! The newer tents are now made in Bangladesh as the Chinese made tents were having quality issues. Vango have also moved over to Bangladesh. As mentioned on another video these Bangladesh made tents are much better in terms of stitching and overall production.
Bought mine in December last year. Used it a couple of times. It's okay down to about -2. It was the noise not the cold that kept me awake; even with ear plugs. The outer could clip on and it would take less time to get out of the weather, but if you've waiting until it's really coming down you haven't been paying attention. It's streets ahead of the Vango tent I bought 20 years ago.
I love my oex rakoon 2 original. Had it a couple of years now had it up in heavy rain storms with 60 moh winds and plenty room to sit up inside. I'm considering the 2.1 for the metal poles. But also considering a cloud peak 2. Or a helm 2 compact.
I have both the phoxx one and two versions, the two is definitely the better choice for comfort. The phoxx one is like a tent alternative to one of those fancy bivy tents that cost hundreds.
Great review Dan...Definitely not titanium pegs, not at £95...Weight reduction has never really been an OEX thing - Although, I do love their stuff. Keep the brilliant content coming. Thanks again.
Budget tent but not the best value. Euro hike DLX 3 , 2 person tent and never let me down. Huge porch, and now do a night shade one. Review it Dan, you won’t be disappointed.👍
Phoxx ii v 2 best tent you can get for under £100 I got mine on deal for £65 love it been out in rain, sleet, snow over 50mph winds alway kept me warm and dry and never had an issue or anything the only negative is the weight 2.5kg with the tent so successful Go Outdoors really need to do a pro lite weight version it would be a license to print money.
So much faffing about to put up a tent,im after a lightweight tent under a kilo, this was in contention, until i saw your in depth vid,now it isnt, thanks for sharing,my search goes on
*FOOTPRINTS* - a little tip .. I got a tarp sheet from LOMO (Glasgow/online) to use with my Phoxx 1 v2. Of course, it's not quite the same as having a branded footprint designed for your own specific tent ... But it was about 4 quid! On the back side if the tent, I fold it under the tent, following its shape around, and on the doorway side, I leave a bit sticking out - somewhere to rest your knees/feet whilst getting in/out .... LOMO do various sizes, so there might be a viable option for many different tents. The small size I got, was approx 1.5m by 2m ... just right for the Phoxx 1. The HH rating for the 'bathtub' is very good ... but I do like giving it that but extra protection from stones etc
Another tip ---- As Highlander had run out of their foil blankets ... I also got a couple of the 'survival' style foil blankets from LOMO ... to go under a self inflating mat ... bit of extra insulation / reflect the heat back up ..... Also about 4 quid ... Absolute bargain! They're only thin, so I don't know how much repeated use they'll stand, but they've been fine so far. If they don't split, I might not bother with the Highlander one.
Good value for money I have phoxx 1 and bobcat. Agree the ties on the fly sheet are bad idea. Check out a ferrino 1 tent, another tent i would recommend for a stealth camp, they do it much better, just velcro, quick and easy no fiddling.
Great video Dan. I'm completely new to camping solo. I've been camping in the past with my family, but in a 6 man tent with everything but the kitchen sink. I haven't ventured out solo yet as I need to build up confidence first. I can't decide which 1/2 man tent to get. I do need to be able to sit up now and again as I suffer from a bad back. I do like the idea of the porch things (Sorry, can't remember what you call them nowadays) to make a brew if it's raining. Also, do you recommend any sleeping bags which don't restrict you as much. I was thinking a 2 season one would be fine tbh. Thanks Dan. This is such a great channel.
there is youtuber called Lucy oringina who done a wild camp in the lakes I think in quite high winds and it got smashed to bit , poles all bent out of shape it was destroyed when she got back she she bought a banshee.phoxx ll v2 is very much a fair weather tent.

THANKS for posting a fine review pointing to this OEX series of tents. In the USA, we are not so familiar with them. The highest recommendation for this line of camp gear is how it has worked for you, even under bad weather conditions. I DO HOPE the product designers in the company are listening to your experience.

There is a 'fix' so that you can leave the outer connected to the inner tent... so you don't need to keep tying each time. .. several vids on here 👍
What puts me off tents like this is having to put up the inner up first and tying the outer to the poles. Especially when it's rainning!!
The newer ones come with the inner attached to the outer. So it's not too bad
oh its the worst when its raining🤣
