The Walking Kev
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 มี.ค. 2022
Hi, I'm Kevin and I love getting outside hiking , wild camping and generally exploring. I love a bargain so am always picking up new and used gear to try out. This channel covers hikes, wild camps and gear tests and occasionally some thoughts on outdoor issues.
I've managed a mountain summit camp for less than £35 - backpack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and pillow - and a full winter snow camp for less than £100. I love finding random tents to camp in and review, and am always on the lookout for the next bargain.
I answer every comment so do say hello and if you have a few questions then you can always DM me via Instagram.

@@MelanieRiley-lt2rl thanks...
Bought mine for £90 used once, and it's been brilliant. Pegs are shite but a set of groundhogs sorted that out. Plenty of guys and that structure means it's pretty tough.
Nice. I sold mine before using it just because of how many tents I had at the time! Seemed a solid tent though!
Nice one Kev👌👏👏 Hopefully we'll have more soon. The rain stopped play😁👋👋
@@JamieHarding5 yeah, absolutely chucking it down now. But seems a chance of snow again this week...

Morning Kev 😊 looked a very nice walk, great drone shots at the end too.
@@yasminshikingmission thanks. I'm trying to explore new areas when I can. Finding quite a few interesting places by randomly selecting villages to park at.
Nice video Kev. Wishing you a wonderful weekend 😊
Thanks, and you.
I just received mine and have tried to set it up, but mine does not have the shape of yours where the pole is at. There is a loop at the top center that it hangs from and the sides simply droop in on top of me. It would be a lot better if the pole was on the inside of the bivy to hold the mesh out instead of on the outside simply hanging it from one loop.
That doesn't sound right to me. There is, I think, one small hoop for attaching a guyline at the top of the pole sleeve. I'm sure they must still be using the pole sleeve design.
@ I finally figured it out, there is a sleeve on the inside that I did not see. With the pole markings on the outside it makes it seem as though the pole goes on the outside.
That’s crazy Kev. I’ve seen it for years as I drive the M4 towards Chepstow but never realised the extent of it 😮
@@PhilipOlsen11 and in drier times, it is fields you can walk across!

Just got great shots at zoo and avoided picking up the barriers (fences). Looks like my images were found naturally! Not heavy when consider versatility. Just 2.5 pounds. Recommend buying it used if from creditable vendor.

@TheWalkingKev I will help you. No 1 sugar loaf, you can pick the next 4.
@garymartin557 good choice. I think I'd choose something different, just because Sugar Loaf is so popular.
Do you think a bear would see it as a big burrito ?
@@abouttime5000 possibly. Luckily in the UK we don't have anything dangerous to worry about!
Had a look at one of these and yes it is a good tent but why do people design tents for the uk market that pitch inner first. It is a simple no for me on this basis as I want that erects as one both inner and outer with outer first as it could be bucketing down and your inner is going to get soaked through.
@@MrToast-hj6kp yeah, it's the one downside to this tent and many like it.
So is this absolutely the same with the Naturehike 5.8 like everyone is saying? And does it flatten out when sitting on it? Thanks for the great review!
@@apostolosm84 no idea as I don't own the Naturehike. Does look to be the same. You can sit on it with comfort.

Great video! You really put a lot of effort into this 🙂 Subscribed!
@@EmmasNatureEscapes thanks, very kind of you.
I have the Lanshan 1 (not Pro), and I like it, but though I almost always camp alone, I've considered the Lanshan 2 or 2 Pro for the extra space. The Lanshan 1 was difficult to pitch at first, and it needed a few mods to keep the inner off of my face, but I've mastered it now. I've even used it with platform anchors over the water in the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. I need extra-long lines for the anchors, but a platform is very flat, so it works quite well. I have two other, free standing, 2 person tents, one three season and one four season, but they're considerably heavier. I ordinarily kayak-camp, so weight is less of an issue, but I plan a seven day hike on the Appalachian Trail in the spring, and I'll likely take either my Lanshan 1 or a new tent. You're talking me into the Lanshan 1, but I also like the Lanshan 2 (not Pro) and the Featherstone Backbone 2P. The Backbone is a single-walled tent that I prefer to the Lanshan 2 Pro. My daugher may accompany me on the seven day hike. If we share a tent, my Featherstone Peridot is light enough particularly if we split the components, but I may not resist the temptation to add another tent to my collection ... If she brings her own tent, justifying a new tent will be more difficult, but the difficulty has never stopped me before ...
@restonthewind they're good tents. I've yet to sell the Lanshan 2...
Total opposites for me, I have Lanshan 1 that I'm going to get rid of, I absolutely hated it, used it once and will never again use it ever again. Lanshan 2, perfect, used it on the Cumbria Way (none pro version) for the first time and it was absolutely perfect. It does take a few goes to master it but I think for it's price it's brilliant. I thru-hike with a dog mind which is one of the reasons I hated the Lanshan 1 :D Edit: Tho, I would absolutely love a Durston but man-o-man, they dear!
@@M4rkieM4rk ha ha. You can join me in the 'no Durston' club. It seems like it might be a small club though!
