  • Today we will be dealing with several issues pertaining to throttle cables, ill point out that some procedures in this video are NOT STANDARD, you will see why. There are several surprises, the focus being a cable which has an end that snapped off at the carb mount.
The first issue is a bolt that is seized in the control cover, great care is taken to remove the screw without damaging any thing. Ultimately, the end was removed, turning it into a stud which was easier to work with to remove, and ultimately replace.
My intent was to remove the broken cable, lube the new and existing one and install the new cable. The inability after three tries to receive a proper sized cable caused me to fabricate a repair of the original cable from parts received from one of the new ones that the seller did not want back. I encourage people to use the correct part for the job.
No special tools were used for lubrication, just a small plastic bottle, table as a seal and gravity as demonstrated. I never had much luck with those tools.
After this, installation commences in the reverse order and adjustments are conducted. There should be no binding upon completion.

I have an 09 vstar 1100 that the drum on the carb itself doesn't return. Ive backed it off and added an extra spring to help it return to no avail. Any tips or know where i can find a new spring set up?

I had the same problems with i believe the pull side. Order from yamaha, 3 times wrong part. Then I showed them the old one. Different part # Make sure that they order your parts for Silverado, if that's your model. By chance have u seen a reckless batwing install on a 1100. Thanks for your posts

Is the process much different for the 650?

I resently removed my carbs and reworked them. But the person helping me had started before I got there and when disconnecting the throttle cables took the nut off the carburator throttle holder and that made the spring unwond. now that we reassembled the carbs and put back on my throttle does not spring back in place. I try retighten the spring and put the throttle cables holder back on the carb. but that just made my throttle harder to turn and not spring back. Any help would be appreciated.

Always enjoy your very informative videos. Hope you can help. I had my carbs rebuilt a year ago on my 03 1100. In replacing my throttle cables, I find that the throttle body will not budge. What can I do to loosen it? Thanks

    • @retrotechandelectronics

loosen the adjusters, they may be binding up.

Are you ever planning on doing a video on using your wide band? Do you have a bung for the O2 sensor welded in?

I have watched a bunch of your videos and I was able to get a 650 that’s been sitting for 3 years back to life! After doing a test ride I’ve notice the throttle gets stuck (almost like a cruse control). Is this something that can be corrected by getting oil down inside the throttle cable?

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  ปีที่แล้ว

Possibly. Try checking if the throttle cables bind whilst disconnected from the carbs too, and if not it could be maladjusted, that causes binding

I have ordered both cables twice from my dealer and they are also too long and aren't compatible!! What's the disconnect with these parts I wonder. 😒

What would it cause it to die down while riding? Can’t idle without choke, can’t bump start, pick up coil is getting 200 ohm reading. I think it might be a clogged carb or something to do with fuel delivery. I bought a bike without knowing it had a fuel pump delete so I don’t know if that has to do with anything, I have the video showing the symptoms on my channel

    • @retrotechandelectronics

WHy would someone pull the fuel pump from this bike? Its not optional.

@@retrotechandelectronics I thought so myself… but it ran fine for 10-13 miles before it complete died. Not sure if he gravity fed the carb before he sold it to me like that

    No friction, in cable.

The front brake….. has no cable…. It’s hydraulic… brake fluid. This level of repair isn’t for you. Take it to your local shop.

I think you are like me and our handlebars are not stock. I also ordered cables which appear to be the right ones but they're short about a foot. I've been looking for the stock dimensions to the handlebars or the cables but can't find them.
