Honestly, this video actually showed DETAILED ways on how to get the clutch cable off! Ive been struggling for the last 4 days trying! Thank you ssooo much!
I changed a clutch cable once before on a CB750-K over 30 years ago, but this video gives me courage to go out do again on my V-Star 650 this evening with confidence I can ride again tomorrow. Had to laugh though, when I noticed that fire extinguisher on your ride. You never know when you might come across a burning squirrel or something while on the road!
Right on Mark, get er done. lol that fire extinguisher is actually a stash can for my rain pants and a siphon hose for gas. Check it out here th-cam.com/video/nhCyShTHF1w/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
I have done a lot of the work on my 05 classic from watching your videos so I want to say thanks because I have saved a lot of money in the year I have owned my bike. One more thing: cool signature phrase you have....."Take it ease!" Ride safe and God bless.
+Louis White That's great Louis, love to hear comments like this. If these videos help even 1 person out, then worth it. Thanks for watching & Takeiteass!
bernbo, you're the reason I bought my first 2000 vstar 650 custom. I made your floorboards, highway pegs and windshield bag. love the videos. tmake care man
really appreciate you putting this video up. I need to make my cables shorter but wasn't sure how i would get them off or on. This clarified a lot of things. cheers.
Real helpful! My clutch cable snapped as I was driving home tonight, still had a little bit of cable left but could feel the lever go slack. Just about worked well enough to get me home, but won't take the bike out until I get it sorted.
Carbs are something that I have not worked on, I had my jets done in the shop along with the valve adjustments, I have heard that the screws strip easy, sucks man. Thank you for watching my vids that's awesome! Ride safe.
"Oh you're filming a video? Let me play you the song of my people." Thanks for the vid. I have a Shadow Spirit 750 and the clutch cable snapped in two while I was going 50mph in 4 lane traffic. Going to go attempt this now.
I was attempting to slow down to turn left when it snapped. There was a narrow concrete median in the center, so I brought it to a stop as close to it as I could, so cars could go around me. Lucky for me, two driver's stopped and helped me get it off the road, and then one went and got his trailer and drove us home. I was very fortunate. Just got the old cable off, hopefully my new one shows up tomorrow.
So I replaced the cable with one the same size. Now the clutch won't work at all! WTH? It had been in neutral. I got it into first. Tried 2nd and 3rd, heard it clicking. Replaced cover and started bike, and now the shifter won't budge. I've been taking the bus for a week already and at my wits end now.
I have a 2006 v star custom 650. This video is extremely helpful! Followed it exactly, however, the cable (same as the previous) is a hair short and can’t get it to reach when both nuts are on. Are both nuts required or am I just doing something wrong?
Yes you should use both jam nuts for adjusting and locking it down when you get it set. Not sure why you're not able to. If both cables are exactly the same it should work. You may need to adjust up at the lever to gain more length.
Question: would the nut adjustment at 5:10 allow me to move the friction zone closer or further away from the handle/grip? If so, are there any other parts i need to adjust to achieve this? My fingers don't allow me to comfortably cover the clutch. Not having the lever soo far out will help me finally put some miles on my motorcycle this coming riding season.
Hey Jonathan, unfortunately not, the friction zone on the 650 is like that, it was something i had to get used to. If you search it out i think i saw a kit or something you could install to remedy that or at least make it better, but that was years ago. Sorry i couldn't be of more help .
@@bernbo this video will help me out when changing the cable. Thank you. Might just get a new and install those aftermarket ebay/amazon adjustable levers. I have seen mixed reviews but I have no choice. Hope you have a nice day.
My man, I'm adjusting my bikes clutch cable but for some reason for the life of me, no matter how I adjust the lock nuts, I can't get the clutch to disengage. I was installing a kit to help me move the friction zone closer to the bar and I almost had it right but now it won't let me get into first from neutral without stalling. It was working perfectly well before the kit I installed, and I took it off and I'm still having issues. You think I stretched my cable out or should I look into clutch rebuilds
The clutch friction zone is quite far from the grip on the 650, you should try and adjust for it that way. I don't think you need to redo your clutch. It can be tricky to get it back to where you had it originally.
Hey Bernbo, nice video, I have a 2004 Yamaha V-star 650 custom and I bought this bike very cheap and doing some repairs from the previous owner wrecking it. However, my clutch is not engaging and when I start it-put it in first it dies. I have replaced my clutch lever, clutch perch, cable and still not engaging. I'm not sure where to go from here. Hey man, I was wondering how to get more clutch cable out? I'm putting in a new clutch lever (modified 650 stock lever) and the cable it way too short to go in the new cable seat.
