    I’ve been using the Garmin system for years and recently got an epix 2 and an HRM to improve my fitness and while I like the Garmin watches I realized I like wearing traditional watches way more so I ended up buying the Whoop and so far I’m definitely enjoying it since I can wear it on my arm and still wear a regular watch on my wrist and when I’m working out I can wear the Garmin and still track things like distance. I know it’s not cheap but it works for me!

      I've literally just taking the steps to replace my Apple Watch with a Whoop, with one of the main reasons being that I prefer to wear my traditional watches over my Apple Watch!

    I got the Whoop a couple of weeks ago, on the recommendation of a friend whose judgment I trust. I have had a Fenix 6 for the last couple of years, which has always satisfied my requirements. I'm a runner.
    I like the Whoop. It provides interesting insights and is quirky in design. It does not, for me, provide any additional useful information over and above what I already get. For that reason I have, just today, cancelled my subscription and returned the device.

    Had it for 2 years. Stopped using it and don’t miss it at all. Once you learn your habits, there’s no reason for it. You’ll know when you get bad recovery and when you get good recovery after a while. You can kinda guess what the score will be before you look.

    I'd love to get the whoop, but I strongly oppose subscriptions in general. It's not about whoop, but their business model is an instant turnoff. That is the reason for getting a Garmin. I'll upgrade when I'll break it, what definitely happens to any watch I wear, sadly. Love the heart rate based running though.

    I just recently picked up a Whoop after using a Garmin for years. For Crossfit, my wrist was constantly mashing buttons on the Garmin with gymnastics. With certain weight movements, especially kettlebells, the watch's screen was also at risk of getting bashed in. I also run, so I'll still be using my Garmin for that because of the GPS, but am very happy with the Whoop so far. I am also really coming to appreciate the strain metric vs. step count more and more.

    Whoop won for me because I like to wear a traditional watch as well as a fitness device. I didn’t want to wear two “watches” so the no screen style of the Whoop was very intriguing to me. About 8 months in and love it!

      Same bro, I wear a Rolex and about to buy an Omega so I can see myself not wearing them if I were to buy an Apple Watch. Think I’m gonna go for the Whoop, cheers.

      Can you wear it on your dominant hand? I have a Garmin I dont want to quit using, but that’s on my left hand and I wouldn’t want both on that hand..

      @@Hamre26a you can wear it on your dominant hand. the reason why you get slightly better heart rate accuracy on your non-dominant hand is because you use it less, so you're flexing the muscles less over the course of the day. but it's not a super strong effect, and during actual exercise it doesn't make a difference. but you can also wear the whoop in other places, like your bicep. you can even put it in your sports bra lol. just needs to touch skin.

    The app activity tracker tracks GPS location, that might be good enough for those running or biking with their phone anyways. Big fan of the whoop, don't mind the subscription cost.

    It's easy to forget about on your wrist... until it needs to be charged every 3 days. Loved the concept of WHOOP but it made me realize how much I hate charging devices. I lost the battery 3 times in the 1.5 years I had it. Ran into some data integrity issues specifically rowing: I could never make it my only heart rate monitor, which to me was the value proposition. I wanted the one device to take care of everything: connect to my bike computer, give accurate sleep data to TrainingPeaks, and replace the strength training watch. It simply doesn't replace your Garmin, and as a serious or even semi-serious athlete you end up wearing two watches.
    Garmin now has HRV built into all their new stuff, so the use case isn't quite as compelling as it used to be. I think it can be great for a few months to learn what hurts your sleep but the recommendations are all rather predictable. Don't drink alcohol, turn off blue light, and eat more veggies. Picked up an Enduro 2 (thanks to your review) and haven't looked back at the WHOOP.

    As mentioned in he video the Whoop Band is a wellness band and not really comparable to a designated sports watch. They are two very different things, and if you feel that you can afford to spend over $300 a year on getting that wellness data in a phone app then just remember that the over $300 a year is gone, whereas a sport swatch can be sold after a year and will still represent good value when upgrading or swapping to a different brand or whatever. For me, I need the data on my arm in my daily training so I have no use for the Whoop Band and think Garmin delivers sufficiently on the wellness data as well, so I am not really missing out on anything.

      on the other hand, smart watches tend to be bulky and frankly their software usually sucks. as for money, plus or minus a couple hundred bucks over a couple years doesn't mean much, and $200/year is a bargain if you're actually using it to improve your health.

    If Garmin can fix the sleep algorithm so it is more on the same level of the top trackers (oura, whoop, apple watch) AND also expand its body battery feature to be more useful like the whoop recovery score it is 90% of what i need to use it alone and ditch my whoop. For now like a lot of others ill continue to use both. Once you get a bicep strap or bicep sleeve for the whoop it really is a game changer and makes it so the Garmins the only thing on the wrist. For now whoops metrics just hit that dopamine rush for me when I do everything right and it translates to better stats while the Garmin seems to use way more longterm variables to create a much more steady and mid term training state vs whoops acute state metrics.

    I saw the section of the video where you mentioned Whoop compared to Garmin’s metrics. How, though, does Athlytic fit in? I love Garmins, really, I do. But they’re terrible smartwatches so I use an AW Ultra. It’s NOT half the sports watch a Garmin is, but I’ve prioritized “smart” stuff. Most days that’s fine, but I’m training quite a bit more lately, and I’d love good feedback. I’ve used Athlytic for months now, but I’m suspicious of it’s metrics and scores. Do you have any data or personal conclusions there?

    Had given up on the whoop in 2021 but after extensive reads and use of apple watch and garmin - this was the most practical from wear all times point of view - data monitoring on the page does make a difference - the steps ( roughly ) we get from the phone anyway

    If Garmin would just make a band (no display, not gps) and sell it for $80-150, it would cause a huge dent with Whoop. Even add a discount if it’s paired with am active Garmin watch, so it could be used as a arm style HR monitor. (Don’t know how to handle that logistically). Garmin is missing a big segment.

      The Vivosmart 5 is Garmin’s closest alternative in my opinion, especially when you turn the screen off. I use it when I want to wear a “traditional” watch and it tracks most of what my Marq 2 does seamlessly, all presented on in the same way on Connect.

      Plus better software. Add advanced AI functions that provide real insights even if it’s $5 a month or something would be way better

    I got pretty wrapped up in this new recovery tech market and tried whoop, garmin and oura. After messing with them all they all had little quirks that just bothered me. So I took a step back from all the hardcore tracking and just use apple watch to record my workouts and sleep and now just look at my restorative sleep times and average RHR while sleeping for a light check on how my body is running. Other than that if I feel good then I feel good. Don't need a device to tell me that. I would stick with Garmin but that fricken Fenix 7 is too darn thick. a 43mm fenix that is half the thickness would be perfect. For now it's apple for me.

      The Forerunner 965 basically has all the functions of the Fenix 7 but it's a lot lighter and a bit slimmer

    my Whoop subscription runs out today after 1 1/2 year of use. Pretty happy with it but after some time, I realised, that I don’t take any more benefits from it. Now I use the fitness features from my Garmin and that will do. Happy to be out of the subscription system because it is quite pricey (even with 18 months prepaid sub I had). Maybe I’ll miss it and resubscribe, who knows. I think it’s nice that we as costumers have a lot of choice nowadays😊

    I find the Whoop is highly inaccurate. I’m using it for almost a year and I’m getting erratic and consistently too high heart rate data. It messes up your entire day including recovery score. I wish I had not pre-paid for a year. For anything other than sleep tracking it’s pretty useless. Just get an Apple Watch. Save your money.

    Kinda shocking how uninformed this video is when comparing WHOOP and AW. A bit of research would have shown that WHOOP measures heart rate non stop (100 times a second) vs AW’s once every 5 minutes. This is key when measuring strain. I’ve worn WHOOP and AW (using Athlytic) same time and was shocked to see how much better WHOOP was at tracking strain and recovery. AW simply can’t compete because it does so much more it doesn’t have the battery to measure non stop HR. I ditched WHOOP in the end because like you mentioned eventually you realize what is ruining your recovery and no longer need app but the idea that WHOOP can simply be replaced by AW is simply not true.

      Like I said, there’s a lot of differences and this was a high level comparison so I didn’t dive into the nitty gritty. The Whoop could sample 1,000,000 times per second but the fact remains that the raw data doesn’t seem perfectly accurate compared to an ECG sensor. Thanks for informing me.

    Once Apple launches “quartz” training load and recovery metrics for the Apple Watch, Whoop will become an even harder sell.
    Garmin and any other ecosystem based on Fitbit metrics already covers what Whoop does without a subscription.
    Having said all that there is something about a simple band and simple but key set of daily recovery and strain metrics that no one quite does in the slick way Whoop has.

      as long as the apple watch needs to be charged daily and taken off the wrist to charge, i think there will always be a market for the whoop. so tired of charging (and forgetting to charge) all my gadgets before i can use them. also, many of us don't like having yet another screen on our wrist. i would love for apple to release a faceless low-profile whoop competitor, but i don't think whoop competes directly with their watch, else i would've just bought one.

    Whoop works for me because I do martial arts and can easily still be used with their smart apparel compared to most wearables out there.

    Total gimmick. Wore mine for 2 years and put up with the absolute terrible heart rate which was wayyyyy off all the time. Sleep tracking was total crap and was off by hours not Minutes HOURS. I got fed up editing my sleep time every morning. Recovery percentage made absolutely no sense. It constantly registered naps even though I was wide awake. Still have a year left on my subscription but I never wear it now.

    I like to wear a traditional watch so whoop all day for me. Subscription on 2 years is not much more than Netflix and I know which one is better for me.

    Not for longer than 3-6 months or if you tend to experiment a lot with changes to your lifestyle + fitness.
    I originally started with the 30 day trial, returned it, and then ultimately came back for a full year subscription.
    Learned what I needed to by 6 months in and have mainly worn the band since then for sleep tracking and the passive alarm feature.
    Won’t be resubscribing.

    I have just started wearing the Whoop, having recently recovered from Covid this summer which has made me much more aware of the importance of strain, sleep and recovery. Post COVID I suffered several weeks of fatigue where I had to stop cycling an activity that I do every day and rest. Having relied on data from my Garmin I wanted a source of comparison. The Whoop band goes about things in a different way. HRV for Garmin is measured throughout the night whereas Whoop measures it only in deep sleep meaning there are no external influences. This means the figures will vary between the two. I'm still trying the Whoop, its less hands on than the Garmin metrics but more focused in some ways, and the sleep coach is very good when you want to plan where you need to be for the next day. Measuring from the wrist has its draw backs though and I find the strain on some exercise sessions can vary significantly when recorded with a heart rate strap.

    Whoop for myself trainer to improve recovery and strain
    But above of all
    My wife doesn't complain anymore to wear a watch in bedroom 😂

    Very useful. At this point I just need to track my activities well. I am starting from the bottom as I had a Fitbit some years ago, the. a MYZONE band but that’s it. I’m looking at buying the Garmin Venu 3. But I only want to wear it whilst doing my activities/specifically zone training. Maybe a WHOOP in the future.

    The sub is a lot... But it is nice that they gave old users a free upgrade to the current model. If they changed the 2-yr sub to cover a lifelong sub instead, it might be a worthwhile option! That way you could try it out month-to-month for a while and if you like it subscribe for life with a one-time amount!

    I have been using Whoop since early 2014. The accuracy and depth of data tracked have certainly improved since the Series 1 device. I also have been using Garmin Forerunners for the past 20 years. I continue to use Whoop as Garmin still has way too many metrics that dance around recovery.

    I have an Apple ultra and love it but got a whoop for the various martial arts training I do. Whoops support is terrible. Sadly whoop sent me a brick. Brand new device and it doesn’t charge. Contacted support and 3 days later still haven’t heard back.

    I don't get what's with the battery life. No display, no GPS.... Why is it only 5 days max? Makes no sense whatsoever. The point of forgetting it is there is gone when you have to charge it so often.

      It samples Heart Rate data continuously which takes a hit on battery life. The portable charging brick with a built in battery is pretty sweet though so I don’t mind the battery life that much.

    I used the Whoop 3&4 but have stuck with the Garmin ecosystem due to its more rounded devices and data feedback, integration with other Garmin products (bike computer, hiking GPS and even scales!) plus I don’t need to use my phone to see what’s what.
    Whoop, for me, is crying out to be bought out by the likes of Garmin, Apple, Samsung et al so it can fully realise its potential.

    The audience for this has to be thin. If I’m cheap, the subscription rules me out. If I am mid tier, I’m going for a Garmin. This has got to be for the “pro” athlete, influencer, and wealthy who want both.
    Also, I’ve seen people wear both more than JUST the Whoop.
    I want to like it, but not at that price.

    Despite being a fan of traditional watches so loving the idea of being able to wear this with one and not look TOO crazy while gathering all my health data totally appeals....Its just too damn expensive for me!!
    I bought my Fenix 6 sapphire soon as the 7 came out for a massive discount, its still worth £200 plus if I wanted to sell it so two years on I'm only £200 down... I'd have paid over double that for my whoop... I could even just have bought a cheaper Garmin model for less than £100 and got all the data that whoop gives me for free!
    Having to pay whoops crazy expensive subscription forever for less data than Garmin gives me for free just ain't something I'm willing to do!
    So for me my old Garmin is still perfect.

    Garmin has a recovery advisor, that tells you your strain, if you need longer recovery you have more strain, it also has a body battery, I can’t justify the price, plus with Garmin you can check your stress and heart rate any time you want, Whoop is a Massive rip off I’ve decided not to get it, plus you said they’re both pretty even so my decision has been made, thank you

    I was a whoop subscriber for four years. After using the apple watch and other software such as Athlytic for calculating HRV much like Whoop for a fraction of the price, I question the accuracy of the information being provided. One could argue that the whoop data, its benefit to the user is in observing the trends in the data and the accuracy of its measurements is not that critical. I just cannot justify for the price point and the overall lacking experience with their useless customer support. In the end I was not sold on its value to me at the exceptional cost. I lost a band at the gym that I had had paid two years of service on. Instead of doing the right thing and taking care of the customer, it took two weeks of sending requests to whoop support to even illicit a response from the company. After two more questions and going back and forth with their support, I let them know that I was dissatisfied with their lack of care to my needs as a customer. I ended up purchasing an Aura ring, and will see if perhaps the culture of that company is perhaps a better fit. Perhaps they have more value for their customers. Whoop could care less about theirs.

    I also did a Review on my german channel and you also said it: the accuracy is bad. Even in you do a Training. So even if the app does all the magic , if the Data is bad, the base is Bad and its only lets say a sleeptracker, Not More.

    Whoop for me is marketing over function..My Garmin gives me all the functions I need for fitness/exercise (plus tones I don't need)
    But the function I use the most is..... telling the time.
    Come on..

    If the heart rate is bad than everything else is bad since everything depends on the heart rate.

      That's sort of my thought process however the data is still useful in the Whoop app thanks to their algorithms and how it cleans up the data. If you were looking at pure HR raw data it does look a bit off though.

    Whoop just isn’t for me as I’d always need a supplementary device to do all of the things it doesn’t do. If they launch a variant that tells the time and has GPS then I could at least consider it. As it stands though, my Fenix 6S Pro is around 4 years old and still going strong. Garmin updates are now sufficiently incremental that I don’t feel I’m missing out by skipping generation 7 of the Fenix watches.

    I watched your review when i first got my Whoop 4.0 about 2 years ago. I am still using it and very much enjoy the data. I even subscribed to be a pro member and got new armbands etc every 3 months. I didn’t have a good few issues with my device but customer service is pretty good and they add a few weeks or months to your subscription every time there is an issue. Which is great as I only paid for a year of Pro but still have it now on all of the extensions. They’ve now added a Whoop Coach which is an AI coach and it’s the worst invention ever. I’ve turned that thing off, I got so annoyed with it - luckily you can in the settings. I’ve looked at the Oura ring a few times but never got one. I would really be interested in a in-depth comparison between the two. I am a cyclist and although I have a head unit on my bike, the Whoop gives me additional data on activities and sleep that I value.

    That was useful. Thanks. I hadn’t realised it didn’t have a gps chip and could track runs etc. Also didn’t realise it didn’t track movement data at all. Interesting that it’s not that good on heart rate either. If that’s the case, it seems that some of the other health metrics may also be a bit off. Anyway, this was good. Thank you.

    I just got a Whoop, in part to your review. Thanks. How do you deal with double workouts? Do I just turn off some apps (eg peleton) from writing to Apple Health? Which do you keep and which to turn off, ie which is more accurate? When I go for a run tomorrow, Work Outdoors or Whoop? What do you do? Do you just delete one after every workout? Thanks!

      That's a good question. It really depends which data you value more. Personally I find a running watch (garmin, apple, etc...) provide more data so I stick with that. You can simply turn off that toggle in the apple health integration between whoop and Apple if you want to leave out activities without having to manually delete them every time. This way they still live in Whoop if you want to view them there.

    I'm a Apple Watch user and have been thinking about upgrading to the latest S9. However, I'm really into my watches and much prefer wearing a traditional watch and found myself just not wearing my Apple Watch as much or only when I'm working out, so my data was a bit all over the place. With the Whoop, I can always keep it on and get a much better look onto my fitness data.
    I don't think I'll miss having a screen on my wrist either. Having the Apple Watch screen is useful at times but most of my workouts are in a Gym or at home, I'm not really a runner either, so I'm always able to quickly check on the progress of my workout between sets on my phone (the Whoop Widget is awesome).
    I've just opted for the Whoop "Free Trial" to see how I get on (should be here in a few days...) and one of the main reason behind that decision is because its not a watch! Looking forward to trying it out! Great video

    I love the WHOOP, but I love/need my step tracking for a discount on my medical insurance I get from my employer. Otherwise WHOOP would be a no brainer, it's so simple and something about the WHOOP app and community is so enticing

That's the problem for me, I love tech, and l love stats, and I also aspire to live a healthier life, while enjoy wearing a traditional mechanical watch. There is no fitness tracking device that I can't wear that's not on public show, like a ring or watch, don't fit what I need from it.
      I can compare it to tattoos. When someone gets one, no matter how tacky they look, they wear sleeveless shirts to show them off. I feel the same about Apple Watches and the like, to me they scream following the herd, it's a homogenised device.
      Again thanks for the comment but my wait and search goes on to find a concealed fitness tracker.

    Can you actually wear this whoop device free for 1 month, return it and not get charged for membership? On thei return policy the state that it has to be unworn to be accepted

      You can return it or cancel your membership (as long as you didn't buy a 2 year plan). They may not accept the physical band return if it's been worn so you'd lose the $30 cost of the band itself... unless you used a promo code (like the link in my description) which waives the hardware fee.

      They are now doing a 1 month trial. You get a used but refurbished 4.0 with a new band and only pay for postage. You got a month to use and then either return it, or pay the sub.

    If Whoop reduced their huge marketing spend they could substantially reduce the subscription price. Then I'd be tempted. I find their over the top marketing to be counter productive as there's nothing more likely to be put me off buying a product than a random 'influencer' promoting it. Equally I'm not going to pay Whoop a subscription because Rory McIlroy or Alex Honnold were paid a lot of money to promote it..

      They're both similar in a lot of ways. Oura has a cheaper subscription but more expensive hardware. Whoop is the opposite.

    I am a bit special in this :D. I would like to have all these 3 thing combined: Apple watch for "normal life", because they are the best smartwatch and it is really hard to use another one if you tried these, then the Whoop for "health and recovery" trecking, and also Garmin watch for sports, becasue they are the best sport watch. Currently using only Garmin, but I am not 100% satisfied.

      Welcome to the world of fitness trackers and smartwatches! I have awu and whoop 4.0 and the Apple Watch is more accurate yet does not present the information in a simple way, the athyltic app doesn’t not do as good job as whoop, does not do 24/7 heart rate and does not do auto sleep which is ridiculous. At this point I wear the whoop daily as it’s so small and convenient and use the Apple Watch ultra when I wear a nice suit or go somewhere nice for the aesthetic.

    I have the Garmin Epix Pro 47 and the Apple Ultra. I wear both when I run and look like an idiot. They both have their pros and cons. For me, Garmin has two things going for it. Style and Battery life. Apple nailed everything except battery life. I had the Oura and ended up sending it back. They nailed battery life but still too clunky for me on the finger. I understand the subscription pricing model (Oura / Woopt) but there is really no rationale for the device or the subscription fee when most still need to wear a sports / smart watch to get the metrics and fill in the gaps. Additionally, related to Woopt, a device on both wrists is a no go even with no screen and I don't want to buy device-specific underwear. Great video thx!

      I absolutely understand you. AW are very stupid sports watch and Garmins are very stupid smart watch. Also the apps for both AW and Garmin in "health and recovery things" are not very user frinedly, and thats where Whoop dominates :D. Need these 3 things combined :D

      They show pretty similar numbers in my experience but the information is laid out differently where Whoop will show a "poor recovery score" on a bad night and Garmin will show a low body battery. I think both provide pretty useful data.

      I think what the Whoop band is emitting is low power bluetooth which is nothing compared to your phone, or WIFI router. Not something I'm concerned with but that's up to you to decide!

I sleep with my hand next to my head or waist, so the emf will be touching my vital organs everyday. That is my only concern with this. The lack of studies in this area is also because big companies like Apple have billions of dollars invested into this type of technology so fda approvals are flexible from their pockets

    I have an Apple Watch ultra and a whoop band on the bicep strap.
    I hate not being able to decide with which to go single🙆🏽‍♂️😅.
    I love the whoop software and the journaling data. Also being able to wear it during all kinds of contact sports (like e.g. soccer) is great for me.
    The accuracy is driving me crazy… seeing a sometimes 20 bpm offset between aw and whoop during training is a hard punch to take if you see that $400 price tag 😅

      That is the point. If the accuracy is bad, the base is bad an all good Software cannot help if the calculation of fitness is done on a bad base data.

    For my personal use case, I found recently the holy grail:
    Casio G-Shock DW-H5600
    If fit my main needs:
    -Option to set as a no notification/dumb watch
    -Solar assisted charge and long battery life
    -Heart rate monitoring, activity and sleep tracking powered by Polar
    -Rugged, classic look that fits both for office and outdoor use
    The big con for this device is that there is no way to export and/or sync your data outside of the Casio app.
    I’m hoping that Casio will fix this eventually as the option was there for a previous app.

      yeah, i think one of the main selling points of the whoop is its app/software. i don't even use my Polar because, even though it's more accurate, Polar's software sucks. i got the whoop and the app is pretty great at packing the info into insights that i can act on. i just wish i could extend it with additional wearables like my polar chest strap for better data.

    Your first question is do you need this thing. The science is saying no so far, it has no value for anyone "normal", for me being neurodiverse, that in my case create executive function issues. I can't do fitness without having some external tool to make up for the missing functionality in my brain.
    The whoop is an entertainment device, that has real health uses for a few neurodivergent people.
    The science so far show that there is no fitness improvement for people using electronic fitness tools, over someone who just go and do stuff to stay fit. The REAL problem is doing fitness, not whatever you use a fitness tool or not, as the tool doesn't influence "normal" people's behavior, so someone who doesn't do fitness, doesn't magically gain the ability to do fitness because they use a fitness tool.

    The price monthly is an absurd amount and all of the Simps who defend it seem to have very loose arguments for doing so. The technology and device well somewhat expensive does not warrant the monthly price. I'd rather pay a set fee. Also the dumb argument about keeping up servers and all that b*******, no. Bandwidth is much cheaper than I ever was before and it's not like housing anything complex. It's KB of data. You could store locally. The device essentially has a drm built in. There is no reason it should need an internet connection or an app that calls to a server to function
