      That kind of zoning is mostly in urban and suburban areas. In a rural enough area the only restrictions would be based on health hazards and noise pollution instead of commercial issues.

      It's cultural differences. I remember that once when I was a kid an American correspondent came and there were two things that shocked her: that we were so relaxed even though we didn't have a weapon and that when we did our shopping, it was only for the week and no more. Apparently the fridge at her house was twice the size of ours and she still threw away a lot of food. We go shopping on Saturday and have eaten for the week. At worst we do extra shopping if we want to cook something specific that wasn't planned or if we realize that there was something specific that we didn't actually have. Yea, this story wreaks. I believed it up until the bit about insurance. That's not how liability works. The carrier would literally have to prove that the property owner knew that the tree was a hazard (like, documented notices type proof). Maybe it was a shady insurer or an adjuster that didn't know what they were doing, but that's definitely not how it works from a legal standpoint. Even without that, the property owner could file a liability claim under their own policy and let the insurance companies argue it out.

    • @scottsommer9843

      They only apply that logic to state or government owned property. For example, if a pot hole opens up and it is reported to the state that it could cause an issue and they do nothing, if that pot hole becomes a sink hole, then the city liable for all the damages that happen next.

      @7shortofperfection You are correct, but this is how companies work in the US. They threaten with legal action with an illegal incident and if you have a lawyer, you can fight it out.
      But we also have a system that says "if you don't fight back, it is an admission of guilt." Heck, if you ignore it, it is still an admission of guilt.
      That is what is fucked up when companies have more power than government laws and regulations.
      It is not so corrupt that you can't fight back, but damn is it hard if you don't have the proper council and the funds. BUT you could win and pay nothing as the insurance would have to pay everyone anx everything out od pocket.

    As someone who lives in a rural area next to a corn farm on the left and has an apple orchard behind us I completely understand the property line thing. Ours is shaped like a rhombus with bushes creating a straight barrier on the right side so when I mow I have to go around the bushes the cut a weird triangle thing that goes just inches from my neighbors driveway. Lot lines are weird.

    Also, literally the whole neighborhood warned you about Karen, why the hell is his first response to her whining not to ask around, but to pull up and threaten you?

  • @BenB5

    ES has (depending on the state) a 1 to 3-year period during which he can/could petition the tax assessor for his county and pay PO back whatever he bid on the house and the back taxes. If PO sold the house during this period, a judge would likely re-deed the house back to ES so long as he was not out of the rescission period.
    I don't think property taxes should exist. If you have owned a home for generations, it should not be the case that if you forget to pay taxes for a year, someone pays the government the $1500 you didn't pay and then gets to own the home. What's more, you can "overbid" where if someone owes some amount of back taxes, say $500, someone can bid $22,500. To then get your property back, you have to pay them $22,500 and ONLY after 6-8 months do you get that amount in excess of the $500.

    • @BenB5
      @BenB5 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      *AND* you have to pay them interest on the excess sum. In my state it's 8% interest for the first year and 12% on every year after that.

    • @BenB5
      @BenB5 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Flippers are very wary of these types of properties because if the person does petition the tax assessor during this period and pays the overbid/back taxes, you're not entitled to compensation for any rennovations/repairs you've done during the period that you "owned" the home.

    This story has all kinds of issues. The main one being that they gave the land away to their neighbor by agreeing in a legal situation that she was liable for the tree falling and not them. Now if they ever try to fight that they own the land they’ll have to pay back that $200,000 that the neighbor payed since they’ll be agreeing that they really were responsible for that, and chose to falsely have the neighbor pay while knowing they owned the land.

    It is frustrating how important it is to have social skills, be social, and "know the right people".
    At the same time, this story just made me want to be more invisible, more isolated, and never shop at a traditional store, only using delivery services like Amazon.
    If this is how much of a crap show it is, being in a community, and having just 1 person not like you, and spread rumors, and just one person being an incompetent, self appointed mediator. Then I'd rather live deep in the wilderness, only venturing out for a P.O. Box. People are just not worth the trouble & stress.
    And the other issue is, I just want to be left alone, but degenerates among us, and in positions of authority, will always come up with an excuse to bother me, or steal from me, and I will be vilified for being defending myself, or being repulsive, no matter how politely.
    And even though I keep to myself, and mind my own business, not harming or cheating anyone. It is so easy for a SWAT team, or a rally of pitchfork & torches to come for my home, all because of one or a few stupid, wicked, or entitled people.
    I hate humanity.
    I hate that you need a large amount of friends, firepower, or money, just to guarantee protection or what you want in this world.

    My suggestion - let the piece of property go. If the OP goes after it, they may very well find that ES agrees they do own it and then sues them for the $200K she paid. That sounds it would be a financial hardship for them and could possibly cause them to lose the house - back to ES. Better to just walk away from that bit of property, and count it a lucky break that the surveyor was dishonest.

If one shows up to you house with a gun in hand demanded you leave your own property I’m prettt sure not many jurors are going to convict you after you’ve touch him a lesson on why we have a 2ed amendment. Especially if you’re being judged by your actual peers.
    That being said tho, a lot of people try an fill that role even when no one asked them to. And after a while they get it in their heads they are like a the same thing as law enforcement and sooner rather then later in most cases they start to become the village tyrant.
