A year down the line this is the best ever value box set I’ve ever got. With GW doing what they are doing I’ve completely moved from GW know ! Thank you Sir been watching your vids and others for a while. I’m done with GW. Bolt action and SPQR seem the best for me 😂
I have the first edition of this, and will definitely be picking up the revised starter set as well. The sheer number of models you get is incredible for the price. We enjoyed the first edition of the rules and didn't really hit any of the problems others have reported, but we played it as a casual game rather than anything truly competitive. Looks like the revised edition is tighter so more competitive play will the possible too. The campaign system is excellent and as your hero develops games become quite cinematic with heroes being real beasts on the battlefield! One thing I really like about the system are the faction-specific scenarios. Each faction has a unique scenario that reflects their historical context and play style. It adds a lot to the feel of the game, and I wish more systems also did this. Terrific review as ever, keep up the great work!
There does seem to be a lot here for more narrative play, which is great. The unique scenarios really add something. I kinda told Warlord I would be putting a video out quickly so didn't have time for a deep dive into the rules, but they seem to have addressed the bigger issues.
Thanks for sharing. I am interesting in this game as well, especially the narrative element. I would love to see a battle report from you guys. Cheers.
I watched a game of this being played at our local gaming convention yesterday. I immediately went over to one of the dealers & bought the rulebook. Looked like a really fun easy to learn game. Now to raise a couple of warbands.
My only real tip from a few games so far - don't buy strongly defensive units - it just longs out the game. Defence is too easy to obtain with those starter armies and offense is more limited.
Fantastic review thanks. Owning the first edition I am on the fence as to whether I will dive in again with the revised edition. I loved the depth and cinematic feel of the campaign and was so impressed by the diversity of the scenarios. On the downside the original rule set was not clear and there were far too many rules questions (and the FAQ raised more questions). I’m looking forward to seeing some playthroughs of the revised edition.....who am I kidding, I’ll probably get it 😀
It does feel like they genuinely listened to player feedback in the revisions, I guess only playtesting will tell... still in lockdown here, but thinking.
We are already working on the painting! Still in UK lockdown sadly, but we might be able to play on a livestream to get some tester games in - not sure yet because it will probably be a bit ropey in quality compared to our usual fare - but we are considering it.
I have been very vocal about how poor the first edition was, but full marks for Warlord for offering the special deals for players to get the rules for free. I’ll get the new ones just to see if they have resolved the big issues of first edition. The packages are pretty good value for sure
@@ModellingforAdvantage yeah my thought exactly, I ordered the £15 Macedonians box, so if all else fails I'll paint up the minis and sell them as I have thousands of ancients
@@BootsontheTable I look forward to seeing what you have to say about the new edition. It was your advice that kept me away from this system until it was updated. It has sooo much promise, I really hope they have fixed it.
Thanks for the unboxing and review videos guys. I do have a question someone might be able to answer for me. Would i be able to use my Hail Caesar figures mixed in with these figures? From what i can tell, they are the same sprues from both boxes.
So, the Celts are the same guys as you got in the Hail Caesar - as t the Romans, they are the Caesarean ones, which are 4 to a sprue. Depending on Which Hail Caesar set you have they might be different... they're still Romans though and perfectly useable.
Great video! Can’t believe you made one already since they just announced it yesterday. I wanted to buy this when it first came out, but got put off with the reviews on game play. Is this version just a points clean up or did they change the rules as well? Definitely seems like great value for the price.
To be fair, we did get a copy a few days ago... I was told weeks ago they would send it, but it came last minute. Got the video out pretty much immediately... so it is a 'first glance' rather than a deep-dive.
@@ModellingforAdvantage either way, you did it fast and it’s very helpful! Always appreciate your candidness about poses and quality of the models and package, etc. now I just to decide if it’s worth getting. Have to keep my eye out for another “let’s play” video. Keep up the great work!
@@ModellingforAdvantage amen to that. I’m really curious about the warlord resin. I’ve been eyeing up the Macedonians and can’t understand how the sarissas will be straight of it’s a bit bendy
Great review, I thought the problem with the 1st edition was the combat system where everyone in the unit fought in melee and the numerically weaker Romans could get swamped by big barbarian warbands. I believe this was amended in a faq. It would be interesting to know what the rule changes are? It looks from your review that the starter set is the plastic figures not the resin?
Yeah, I missed out on the 1st edition so can't comment too much on that other than what I have seen in the games of other people. It does seem the cost of non Roman units has increased somewhat. They are also very aware of what the problem was and claim to have addressed it.
Great review, I never bought in to 1st edition as like with their Cruel Seas it was getting bad press for poorly written rules. But, I enjoyed your review and I look forward to seeing some gameplay demonstrations. Also the campaign in this sounds very interesting 👍

I ordered immediately. The value is great. My first painted armies collected as a 9 year old were Airfix Romans and Ancient Britons!
I have been waiting for this since early lockdown - eager to make a start.

Noted! We will definitely be playing this as soon as we can meet up again.

just ordered mine new open box for $31.00 free shipping, now to watch you guys play
Sweet deal.
Nice value per miniature. Beautiful minis. Thanks for unboxing.
Too kind sir, thank you
Can't wait to see it played.

Great unboxing, as always my brothers! Seems like a cool set. Your Gauls look really good, too!
~ Wolfbrother Methos
Why thank you kind sir.
Really nice review, looks like a lot of bang for your buck, all the best, Garry
Certainly a decent mound of plastic for the price.
Very cool. Another Starter set on the list! Take Care guys! 👍🍻👍
It does look pretty straight forward and fun to play, especially the campaign element.
Nice review, i went for a box of
Macedonian pikes to get the revised rules
Snap! Was very tempted to get the starter box again, but I have enough Gauls and Romans to last a lifetime...
@@Kevin.Mitchell same i’ve loads of them too 😂
Nice, will we be seeing some videos of them painted up?
I got Hail Caesar starter too, so rather drowning in Celt myself - that said, if I ever have enough time I will be able to upscale to larger games.
I might invest in one of these boxes , if I don't have enough to get done as it is . A good review really enjoyed your content . Terry
Thanks, it certainly is good value just for the miniatures.
Great review
Sad still no Carthage’ and Rep Romans
Can you use your contacts to find out why?
I will order this though!!
I don't think they make Republican Romans - probably the main reason! Not certain of that though.

If nothing else, you can add new minis to your Infamy armies I imagine. Take care mate and thanks for watching.

Nicely done. The building video on the top left is a cool idea, but very distracting.
Thanks for the feedback! May I ask what it was specifically it was you found distracting so we can look at fixing it?

It is the campaign system that draws me in. Heroic ancient combat
I didnt see this got a rerelease. I played the initial and got burnt by getting crushed by baddly pointed Greeks over my poor Romans.
Yeah I hear that. We did a few test games, and it is much better now I believe.
That's a wonderful review,I've just contacted warlord to see if they would very kindly send me a copy.well you never know😀😀😀
Fingers crossed! They are keen to get coverage from the relaunch of the game so you might be in luck. I know they do get a lot of requests though.
i know I'm kind of off topic but do anybody know a good site to watch new series online ?
@Muhammad Andrew lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Jonas Kolton Yea, I've been watching on Flixzone for months myself :D
@Jonas Kolton thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it !!
why do all the review'ers get sent review copy's....just something to ponder!
We got one because I asked for one. Not sure if other people get approached from bigger channels. I imagine they do.
