    According to the rules and diagram on page 149 and the diagram on page 152, Triarii fight in half-maniples. Instead of one long battle line, one base is put behind the other base. This counts as a battle line for Triarii as opposed to the long battle line the Principes and Hastati are formed. This may have made a difference when Robin's Velites gave ground and ran into his Triarii at 49 minutes. Overall, great game and I'm looking forward to painting mine all up.

      I think the 28mm Hail Caesar distances were applied. Warlord suggests to cut in half or to use the same distances but in centimeters in stead of inches for Epic scale.

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@4coseas even though inches is predominantly used for the main version, the rules are scale agnostic. The cm and half measurements are only in the rulebook as options, the default is still inches. We're thinking of going down to 2/3rds distances which is what we use for black powder which has a far higher rate of movement 👍 I personally wouldn't lower it further as units would very slow doing much 😁😅

    The extra room for manoeuvres and the sheer number of units engaged made this quite different from the other battles I've seen on your channel, Martin. As a regular 6mm player, (even more of the same factors) I was fairly sure that I would like it more...and I did. How did you find the added complexity of working the ruleset in the larger scale? Or did you miss the individual nature of fighting with bigger figures?
    I am coming to the belief that the two types of battle given by having less, but bigger miniatures and more but smaller figures are more different than they at first appear. And, personally, I reckon epic and 15mm sit in the middle ground of medium scale warfare.

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it 👍 to be honest I didn't find much of a problem with the scale but I'm used to gaming at different scales though it has been a while. The main thing to consider is the increased time it takes to take a turn due to the number of units and also that they can be more disposable.
      I have some thoughts following this game and project on scale and what you're looking for in a game. I certainly did miss the more dynamic view of the game, I'm considering a video on the subject, as a discussion

    The figures look superb, but Hail Caesar is a very bad set of rules and always has been. Clever marketing from Warlord, they have managed to re ignite this set of rules using the ploy of the miniatures. ADLG and MEG (even DBA) are much better rules for the period. You'll end up spending a lot of money investing in all this, if cash is no object, go for it and enjoy but you will quickly see how the rules don't work. Never understood why you have a number to hit on a dice, so you roll and get 4 hits. then your opponent rolls to save the hits and negates the 4 hits.. You are rolling a load of dice twice to get a single result. Never had a good game of Hail Caesar, we ditched it back in 2016.

    I love these games and battle reports, except for the overly dominant talking of one person. There is always one person that explains and talks about everything and the other person barely says anything. Here is the same, Robin barely gets to discuss or talk at all. He doesn’t talk about or do his own explanations about his turns, strategies or anything really. Never understand why have two people if this is really just a solo game with an assistant. I mean robin barely made decisions on what to do on his turns. Will not watch much of this channel because of this as it just really bothers me because it makes it not a 2 person battle.

      I'd disagree with this. There's plenty of discussion back and forth. It makes sense that Martin explains what's going on, not only is it his channel but he's the one holding the camera and it picks up his voice better.
      The command phase is fast forwarded which is when loads of conversation happens, it's just summed up at the end.

    • @jacktodd5648

      I think that Robin makes all his own decisions, he just doesn't narrate them. Martin describes what Robin has chosen to do.

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So, I sort of would understand your point if there wasn't a whole part of each turn dedicated to the opponent explaining why they have done what they have. I can assure you that I don't play for Robin and his decisions are his own, if I did play for him, with my tactics, he would lose every time 😅
      The reason I explain the dice rolls and what is needed, is so that it is clear and concise as I find a lot of battle reports get muddled in checking and ums and errs, here before we roll we clearly state what we are doing and why.
      If the channel isn't for you, no worries, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Good battle report and great looking game. I’ve always found the Romans need to be played as historically as possible, moving forward all together and maintain a solid battle line otherwise they get defeated in detail with too many groups with too many exposed flanks. The cavalry of course can do their other thing “The risk to the cavalry is……….acceptable” 🏛️

    • @7thson726
      @7thson726  หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@7thson726 Indeed. If the Roman player splits the army up it’s asking for trouble. Roman armies in big battles tend to be smaller too in ever rule set, so easier to flank. Real Roman commanders never had to bother about points 🤣. Send 2 legions, if that fails, next time send 4, then 6, then 8 until they won.
