"Lost"
Having agreed to be the ball boy for the First Year Training Camp, Hinata quickly finds difficulty in the position as he struggles to keep up with others and is constantly under harsh criticisms. Despite the challenges, Hinata is still determined to find something at the camp that only he can do and to not underestimate what it means to be a ball boy.

I never realised how much effect Kageyama's "what have you been going these last 3 years?" had on Hinata until this arc. The though of "doing my best is still a waste of time" must be so terrifying. As usual Hinata takes that pain and makes it as positive as possible even though it made him a bit reckless and crazy.
People like to downplay the ball boy arc but imo ball boy arc is the best arc in haikyuu. Some say it is nothing compared to low points of Mc in other anime like ace of diamond but it's absolutely scary thinking that all your effort is going to waste. It's not due to certain condition but purely because he lacks skill. And everyone puts him down here, no one to encourages him, he needs to find what he needs alone and the embarrassment of doing what hinata did infront of the players he beat and players who are wary of him, players who are his juniors should not be taken lightly. You see the frustration and embarrassment when he was talking to ushiwaka and some guy asks him to get water. Haikyuu depicts this so well.
2:33 Remember during the finals, shiratorizawa’s coach always yelled at Goshiki cause he expect a lot from him, here we can see him yelling the most at Hinata cause he surely expecting something more from him too, even if he’s just a ball boy he can think of ways how to improve (that’s what I thought of coach washijo)
Haikyuu knows how to make good training arcs
The Summer training camp (season 2) is one of the best training arc in shonen

Hitana being strapped by the roots is such recall to episode 6 in season 3 when Daiichi felt the same as a first year
When you are panicking and feel like you should be rushing in life, sometimes it is best to take it easy and have breather. This ball boy arc is pretty much telling us that that if you take the time to step back, thats when you can actually see what you need to do.

You should look up the Haikyuu seiyuu event that has the voice actors of Shiratorizawa, because Ushijima's voice actor is actual irl Asahi and Tendou's seiyuu is literally Tendou.
Goshiki sticks his head into the mats like Hinata is doing in the manga too :< so cute
Hinata's arc here is very essential for the next seasons and the ending. I saw people thinking that the ball boy arc was boring but I think otherwise. The build up pays, and everything Shouyou done was worth it. I love your reactions!
I will honestly take the ball boy arc over the build up from season 2 any day of the week

it kinda reminds me of when kageyama and hinata fought in s2 where they had to learn to play on their own before coming together to pull off the new quick. sure circumstances are different but they're forever gonna be growing as a duo but more importantly as solo players. rad reaction as always !!
Seeing Tendou again made me so happy i love him 😂 "so....why aren't ya playin?" eheheheh he's great. When i first saw this series i was actually a bit annoyed at Hinata i was like it's not out of character but i was like oi you don't get to just join in because you want to and weren't invited, and i felt defensive of the rest of the team back at school but i was super happy with how they handle it and rewatching it I'm much less annoyed hahahah
I think when Takeda was talking to Hinata, the vice principal was there with his toupee off LOL in the manga
I LOVE the parallel between hinata's mop scene and the scene where nishinoya is (kinda) introduced

I didn't recognize it even after reading manga so many times until somebody mentioned it a while ago lol. I thought he was some other coach in shiratorizawa.

The first time i saw this arc i get pretty much second hand embarrassment but after rewatching the series over and over again I come to love this arc, especially knowing how important it is for Hinata future. But one thing that I will always feel tho, I will feel like crying every damn time, I have this feeling where I wholeheartedly want to support Hinata all the way. He is just such an inspirational character man 😭
