  • What a treat to hear that 1947 Dodge Power Wagon running. This beast went from Oregon farm truck to wrecker to a restored blue beauty. We found "Ol Blue" at the Oregon Mountain Cruise in Joseph, Oregon.

That is one fine truck. Love that blue color. Mr. Blue is King of The Road. Roger Miller would have loved this truck. Power Wagons lived up to its name. Dodge. Depend on it.

Back in 1974 I worked in a Ford Garage in Montana...the local Fish and Game brought in a similar Dodge Power Wagon needing a brake rebuild, which I performed. Test driving the truck I was amazed to see a grand total of 4500 miles on the odometer. The truck had a small fishtank mounted in the rear and was used once a year to plant fingerlings in a nearby lake...oh how I wanted that truck!

My Dad had a 51 Dodge Power Wagon that started life as an ambulance for the army. It still had the folding beds hanging on the walls in the back when he got it. It was totally sealed so it could run underwater. As long as the driver could breath, that wagon would run. It pulled air for the engine from the headliner. All the lights, bearings, everything was sealed with gaskets and O-rings. I loved that old thing.

A Cummins swap would be perfect for this. It could even look the part in that engine compartment. Need so torque to push that much weight around.

    I love my '99 Silverado & mid to late '70s F-150's of which I had 3 but man.......The late '40s / early '50s Powerwagon's are the coolest pick-ups ever built.

In 1969 a friend bought a 1948 PW, used it until c.2000..... in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Last Chance Road/ Big Basin park, which burned last year. Man, the steering was heavy. And with the flat head engine she was slow.

That's one of the very few Dodges I'd rock. My Dad has an ole 39' International that's looks put it to shame in my opinion, but very cool truck, and I'm sure it's much more capable. The pop out windshield and hood scoop make them a cool ride in the heat.
