    Great, honest review. I've got the series s controller and the 8bitdo Xbox pro 2 controller, and was thinking about picking this one up. This is the perfect review for comparing these and making a decision!

      Any update? I was gonna get the PlayStation layout one but I'm still looking at both. What's reliability/durability like? Are the sticks nice and loose?
      Also is the headphone jack good with microphones? The controller I'm coming from killed microphone volume.

    The controller would be perfect if the cable is detachable from the gamepad itself. Makes storage easier, and avoids stress damage on the cable over time. Hopefully they implement this on their next revision.

    • @karimayoubi74
      @karimayoubi74 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      But then you have a plug & socket that are taking all the strain, which I would have thought is more much fragile than a captive cable, no?

      I made a very similar comment on another review of this controller, and someone mentioned a Brooks converter that allows you to use any controller (like SN30 Pro 2 wireless controller for Switch) on the Xbox. Wirelessly. I don't have the money to get adapter yet, but I am super excited for it. That will be my next purchase when I have some spare cash.

      No need to charge, faster, more compatible. There are good reasons to prefer wired ^^

    • @fryke
      @fryke 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@programaths I guess it's really a very individual preference. At my desk, I prefer wired controllers for the same reasons stated here. In my living room I mainly play the Switch on my video projector, which means I sit quite far away from the console/dock and the wall the picture's on. A wire would be in the way very much. There I vastly prefer a wireless controller over a wired one. Since those wireless controllers are only used on that one Switch, I never have to pair them. They already are.

    • @programaths

      @@programaths Sure. But with 30-40 hours of playtime, I'm fine charging them from time to time. It's not like in the 90s or 00s anymore, where basically any wireless controller was out of battery everytime you wanted to use it. And yes: Of course using a projector and wireless controllers is nowhere near perfect for delay-critical gaming. However: I simply prefer the very large picture for some games, for others, I'm at my desk.

    8bitdo sometimes amuses me for their lack of sense. The controller is great, got almost no complaints about it and I've been using it for a few weeks. But controller with most buttons so far they've made can't do turbo or macros trough the software like the pro/+/2, it has bluetooth but just for using the mobile app as it's wired only. The heart button doubles as share/screenshot on other controllers and it's customizable but now that it has the proper xbox share button, you can't customize/reasign it anymore. Why?
    I feel that in the gaming accessory space there is always the perfect product being purposely avoided, and not because of cost

    Bought a year ago. Used sporadically for half a year.
    Pros:
    customizable button mapping and additional profiles,
    two rear buttons, microphone mute and profile buttons,
    the ability to disable dead zone, which improves responsiveness in games where dead zones cannot be adjusted.
    Cons:
    When connected to Xbox, analog sticks often need calibration (it has been this way from the beginning),
    drift in the right stick has started to appear even after calibration,
    causing involuntary camera movements in games, such as when aiming, which disqualifies this controller and all of its advantages,
    poor analog stick quality; someone who plays all day would probably wear it out in a month.

    I'm looking at this controller to use it for Forza Horizon 5 mainly. Other games that I play with controller are more arcade-y so they don't have that big of an influence on my choice.
    would you say this controller is worth getting for the back buttons ? because the Xbox One controller doesn't have those. Another thing I want to take into consideration is ergonomics, the Xbox One controller has the handles more angled which seems more comfortable to me.
    Two other controllers that I have my eyes on are the PowerA Enhanced wired controller and the Turtle Beach Recon controller do you know more about those perhaps?

    Russ, i have a challenge/video idea for you. Spend a whole week playing 2d platformers (current gen indies, not emulators) on xbox with the series controller gamepad. I think you once called it clicky garbage but it's underrated if you give it a chance. The game that really made me a believer was touhou luna nights. It's a 2d metroidvania with bullet hell graze mechanics, and the series dpad is sublime for the precision that game requires. It's design makes it impossible to screw up an input (on rubber membrane dpads, you can hold, say, right and wiggle your thumb up and down to cause it to misinput up and down in game) and it provides a lovely cup for your thumb to rock back and forth. I think if you took the time to get used to it, you would enjoy it. It may still not be your cup of tea, but i can tell you after using it extensively that it's way more brilliantly designed than i first thought. I think where people go wrong is they tend to press down the directions like a regular dpad, which is why it's so loud. The proper way to use it is to rest your thumb in the cup and rock/tilt toward the direction. It makes way less noise and it flows like butter in games that require precision

      I tried it on 2d Mario, it's not great. Horrible for fighting games. It's not even a proper dpad.

    For competitive fps games i dont recommend this controller. It has huge analog tension that makes precise aiming is impossible. And also back paddles are totally useless because of ergonomics.

    Great review as always. I didn't really care for the controller since I don't like the layout. I watched your video anyways because I really like how you point out pro and cons as well as use case scenarios. Even thouth other youtubers make those comparisons too I always think what your video they make more sense and are getting me more the infos I really need to know.

    So I considered this, but ended up with a weird alternative: A PS5 DualSense with a USB-C to A cable going into an optional Brooks Wingman XB.
    The DualSense works with a lot of systems automatically anyway over USB, but the Brooks adaptor makes it work with every Xbox back to the 360 too (great for retro games on the 360, as the native 360 controller has a terrible Dpad). And if I ever need it, I have a spare PS5 controller as well
