Good solid review. One mistake, it competes with a Prado but not on price. And price is pretty important for me. Thats why I have bought one. And up to 10 000 km it didnt disappoint at all, in fact it surprises me with performance equal to the 150 kw Prado, on the very positive side: at least 1 l/100 km more economical, same size, more USB points(absolutely frustratingin a Prado)), 12 v plug in the rear, sound system far superior to Prado, riding comfort similar,ergenomically much more userfriendly ( sorry guys Ive had a Prado for 2 years). The negatives are: no Apple car play but its not serious with the blue tooth setup working even for navigation from i phone. And the stop/start usless as with all cars equipped with it. No heated seats. And I pay half the price, I smile all the way. Even if it doesnt maintaiin its value as good as a Prado I will loose about the same amount after say 5 years.
Mahindra is reliable and long lasting it will run just as good a decade later and it will get you home no mater what really reliable. Talking from hardcore experience.
If you must have a 4x4 SUV and it must be brand new and for less than 700k .. and happy to ignore the fact that some important safety features are missing ..this is the car for you.I cannot see Mahindra continuing with this without AEB so maybe you should wait
Designed in India, if a car last in India it will last better in RSA. And the Karoo Pikups apparantly very reliable and service network is all over the country.
I have 2 Mahindra vehicles , old one XUV500 is 10 years and clocked 177000 kms , and the clutch is still original..no other issues as far as engine is concerned , still runs like new..
POS, wife was happy with it at first but then the problems started. Steering rack and software issues. Service centres are clueless. No sir, no quality and longivity here. Traded this sh#tbox in after 3,5k kms.
Please don't buy this car, There is a known steering rack issue 10+ cars in South Africa have now reported the same on the 4x4forums and Facebook groups. My car is still not fixed 5 months in. My advice is to steer clear.
My Mahindra Scorpio-N has just been taken back to the Centurion Dealership for the 9th time in three months. The service I have received from @mahindrasa and @mahidracenturion has been shocking. My advice would be to read up on the company's service records and the steering rack issue on this model.

In india mahindra's engine are compared to Toyota for reliability as ppl run it for more than 200000 kilometers
