Col. Jason K. Fettig conducts Samuel Augustus Ward's “America, the Beautiful” on June 27, 2021, at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Va. This concert was part of Wolf Trap’s opening weekend of 2021 summer performances, celebrating the park's 50th anniversary.

Takes me back to SC All State Band in 1970. I was first chair second trumpet. The arrangement gives me chills, especially the beautiful counter melody in the horns. The U of SC marching band plays it after every home game. The high flyers in the trumpet section soar to a high F on the last note.
This arrangement is just incredible! This band plays flawlessly! You can feel the emotion through this performance.

Why oh why isn't this our national anthem? Musically and lyrically it is so vastly superior to The Star Spangled Banner, it boggles my mind.
The Star Spangled Banner tells of the colonists refusing to surrender to a Flotilla of over 300 British war ships. America the Beautiful tells us that we have purple mountains. Tough call..
@@andrewkoledin6951 I would rather have an anthem that isn't purely based around violence. Also, Star Spangled Banner is completely secular. In America The Beautiful we ask for God's blessing.

The Star Spangled Banner is the only anthem in the world that asks a question. Are we still there? And the answer everyday is a defiant YES
@@rightinthedome9973 Granted, your point is solid but to me, as one who has sung it for decades and three years as first with the Third Armored Division back in the day, musically, this is one of the weakest of all national anthems.

One day, hopefully, this will be the official US National Anthem. 100% American Patriot here, but geez, the Star Spangled Banner is a *terrible* song. This song - in particular, this arrangement - is a much better example of what we can do as a country.
