This should be the national anthem, not SSB. It's so much more melodic, lyrics are easier to remember, and it's about the natural beauty of America, which I think is one of the things the US has to be most proud of.
Singing about America being beautiful vs the flag (the principles of bravery and freedom) still standing no matter what war or adversity comes against it is a clear choice This song has less depth in comparison
That was wonderful. That arrangement never gets old. I played it in All State band in 1970. First chair, second trumpet. The horn countermelody at the big tutti on the refrain still gives me chills.
Sorry, but I guess I didn't notice the signs posted in the audience, saying, "Any display of human emotion is strictly forbidden." These young and talented musicians deserved so much more enthusiasm than what they got from these dispassionate, semi-comatose observers. This stellar performance was certainly a moving and memorable experience.

My favorite Band arrangement! I played it as Concert Master if The South Florida Musical Guild ( performing as ‘The Flamingo Freedom Band”). I loved the 3-octave run in the 1st Clarinet part at the time end!

Great to see other state festivals doing this. The PA All State Festival closes with this (or they did the 2 years I was involved). They would rotate between band & orchestra on who would play the instrumental arrangement. If the band is playing, the orchestra members would be singing with the chorus. And if the orchestra would play, the band would sing with the chorus.

(This sounds to be Miraculous, doesn't it? But this is Very True! Just like Magic Words! It is Nam-myoho-renge-kyo!) 悪人も女人も畜生も地獄の衆生も十界ともに即身成仏と説かれて候 （悪人（実は、男全般を指す！）も、女人も、畜生界や、地獄界の衆生はじめ、十界すべての衆生が、皆、そのありのままの姿で、仏の生命（仏界）を顕すことができる。題目の力で！） The sutra teaches that women, evil men (in fact, this refers to all men! Buddhis preaches that men inherently bears the bad, or evil tendency against women. Thus, men's englightenment to Buddhas are called "evildoers' enlightenment"!) I played this on the trombone in the 1982 All State Band. One of the highlights of my high school years.
