I used to have one of these, although not the detomaso edition. It was a surprisingly capable little machine. I loved the sound of the 3 cylinder turbo, kind of porsche like, it made it seem as though you were going faster than you actually were. On cheapo tyres, lift off oversteer was a huge added bonus.
Love it!!! Late 80's I delivered Chinese food around Bendigo, Victoria in a G11 and used to get it "air borne" over the railway line that ran through town:-) I now own my second 1989 Daihatsu G102 and hope for the company to return to Australia one day... Best to all:-)
Another excellent video Daniel, thanks so much. Looks like a great show- so many cars and hope you can cobble together some more videos. That 1990 Galant VR4 is simply a stunner.
Lol. The problem is plenty of footage, zero free time. Poor me, eh? ;-) And rest assured, I got HEAPS of footage of that VR-4. Check out this link, You'll see the VR-4 about halfway down. I actually love this thing for it's rarity! But after seeing that R33 4-door, I have a story to relay that was told to me by a principal at one of the kindergartens I teach at. One of his friends used to own a 33 GT-R 4-door, because when his wife got pregnant, she told him he had to get rid of his sports car for a family car with 4-doors and do his responsible duty. His solution? Trade in his R33 GT-R for an R33 GT-R 4-door. The principal told me the guy said his wife was PISSED. Thought it was a funny little story.
ホンダoyasumi he's never lied to me about anything else, and the company he keeps are businessmen with pretty high positions in their respective companies. I know the car is rare, but it doesn't automatically negate the story. The Miata NB Roadster coupe is rare, too, but I know a guy that owns one of those as well. You could also be right that this story was made up.
Wow! The car is even rarer and better condition than you described in your email! Thanks for sharing it in this video! 😘 That six wheeler Honda Acty Crawler is also something special! Can you also do a video on that? 😀
Pretty cool subcompact. We didn't get the Charade until it's redesign two years later. It sold well, but not good enough to make a big dent in the US market. BTW, love those two Honda City's with twin Motocompo bikes. Automotive perfection.
Love it. I learnt to drive in a 3 cylinder "90 Daihatsu and really liked the weight of the car and how torquey the thing felt on the road. The three is somewhat similar in sound to a 5 which is sounds like half a 10 - wish I saw some worked versions around on the streets. Those original mighty boys and these earlier Charades are going to become highly collectible no doubt. I will check out the site I have been neglecting up to this point OG.
0:38 - Forget about the GTI-R - what is the microcar in the background? Like the Honda Citys parked next to the Charade with the matching 50cc Motocompo motorcycles. I wonder if the connection of De Tomaso with Charade had any negative impact on the sales of De Tomaso models in Europe?
Mangusta... Pantera... Charade...? Great video, Dan. I've heard of this car, but only seen it in a few pictures. I love this little car! Thanks for sharing.

I'm pretty sure you pronounce detomaso like deto-maso as it's an Italian name. That's how the detomaso's own cars are pronounced like the pantera. Thanks for the video! I've seen a picture of a white and silver version of these in the UK, very cool!

Hi! Oh I understand now! Definitely not a DeTomaso version. This is the base model I believe? The Classic CX. I love what they have done in the video!!
Those Daihatsu's can take a beating. My brother had one, and treated it badly, but never died. Love the rarity of this model. Awesome video.
Awesome! From 1983 to 1989 my daily driver was a Charade G11 5 speed manual and oh how I would have loved the turbo!
I had the standard 5 speed manual 1983 Daihatsu Charade 5 door and back in the day I would have loved the turbo...
I wouldn't say no to a turbo either. Fingers crossed it'll happen one day.
