28yr Old Redefines Quality, Building Restomod Alfa Romeos: Totem Automobili | Capturing Car Culture

- With the build quality of cars and trucks in today's age, including custom builds, the market is ripe for a takeover. If you have the drive and knowledge, you can make a splash in the custom car world. Much like Riccardo Quaggio, the 28-year-old CEO of Totem Automobili, which is soon to become the new standard for Italian restomods. Riccardo was a young designer at Alfa Romeo and then decided he wanted to do things his own way and set a new standard. So, he took his passion for Alfa's and ramped up the build quality with full carbon fiber tubs, CNC'd aluminum for almost every fixture, 3D printed components covered in rich Italian leather, all the way down to knurled aluminum knobs and a custom gauge cluster built by Riccardo himself. Their flagship build, the GT Super, is 100% custom and sits about 10% larger than the original Alfa GTs, comprised solely of Carbon Fiber and Aluminum. The only two original parts of the GT are the VIN plate and trunk release handle. Follow along as Larry Chen shows you the intricacies and character of Totem's GT Super.

Larry: How much on the car is CNC
Riccardo: Yes
It's a beautiful car/build
About to comment the same. It's cool to see so much CNC parts and the end result it's awesome. I guess optimizing for cost or mass production was not in the requirements
😂😂😂🫶
i saw it in GIMS amazing, also you can see how exciting it is to present the car he built like picking up parts and proactivly showing the guy the cnc parts
*Riccardo: Yes-eh!
This guy is like Horacio Pagani V2.0. His attention to detail, and unwaivering vision are next-level. I am in awe.
I don't even care if this guy was born wealthy. If you inherited $$$ or had rich parents, this is a pretty good use of your fortune.
Haha! Yes.
You have to sell more than 5 ore 6 though. And I sincerely hope he does, cause he deserves it and this car does to
what rubbish. It is a joke
Unlike Pagani, this guy is humble. Horace is full of himself.
"is CNC from SCRATCHEEE" im flabbergasted at the level of detail of this guy, 28 ? just wow.
Alfa - Take notice! If the factory would build something with similar styling for the masses, they'd sell like crazy!
They cant. Safety and emission regulations. :(
i don't know anything but I imagine you can get away with some stuff with something that's technically a restomod that you couldn't with a fully new road legal car that would makes it hard to package it as small & light.
They already did 50 years ago. When Alfa was Alfa and not a Fiat subsidiary
You’d think so, but market data says they would pass on it for crossover.
Pfft. The world wants disgusting SUVs the size of smart cars.
He's another Mr. Pagani in the making... love to see what's his next project is... Thanks Larry for the video
This isn't even an exaggeration. At 28 he's engineering entire new cars. Nothing underneath that Alfa is stock !
@@Syncopia 🥱🥱🥱
He is also making limited edition already, remember Zonda had like 10 of those😀
Imagine showing up to a car show with this. All the blinged out Lambos, the McLarens, the Ferraris, none of them would get any attention. This car would suck the air out of any show it went to, and this costs the same or less. It truly is the most beautiful car I have ever seen.
it costs 500k which is insane a porshe and ferrari look way better
@@James-gr5mx If you showed up to a car show in that, no one would be looking at the Porsches and Ferraris, they would all be gathered around this car, taking selfies with it...for hours.
9 out of 10 people are going to disagree with you on the looks thing.
@@operator0 The _only_ flaw in this car is its ability to draw a crowd - it would get seriously tiresome like being famous. I was a passenger in a low-body countach years ago and _everywhere_ we went we were more or less mobbed. A lot of garage forecourt time - fuel and breaks from the heat - people came up all the time and wanted to know if it was a kit-car because it didn't have the silly wing on the back.
This car will only draw attention of those that know what it is. Supercars will always grab more attention by normal people, but this is super cool for the enthusiasts.
@@wind016 Everyone at a car show knows what an Alpha Romeo Gulia is, and that's what they will know this as, despite it being a completely re-engineered car that's 20% larger. They will know it's a special Gulia, but they wont know how special it is until they inspect it closer, and/or ask about it. The Gulia is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars ever produced, and this one takes that up about ten notches. It will steal the show, for sure.
To see young men achieve such great things puts one to shame. Hats off!
Yes! Normally it's someone in his fifties or sixties that has built up enough experience, desire, and confidence to do something like this. A 28 year old... should not have already worked as a designed at Alfa, and then left to build his own car, perfected the design, worked out the production processes, AND... created a show-ready prototype that will soon be running.
puts who to shame and why? you?
yes , it does make us feel guilty for the time we waist on things that do not even worth telling
@@noobFab its called opportunity :)
A great line of support and funding (family, connections) goes a LONG way. By no means trying to diminish the talent and hard work present but we also need keep this in mind.
Alfa needs to partner with this guy. I love the fact that someone this young has succeeded in bringing his dream to life. Much respect.
Please don’t, the Alfa Romeo of today is a company where the clerks decide what can be done. It’s not a car company anymore.
It's his vision and it's happening, what does he need a partner for other than possibly finance?
For half a million, this is INSANELY good value.
Agreed
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Whatabigone you think it's expensive? Try and manufacture - not build, MANUFACTURE - a full car from scratch. With ALL CNC parts custom made from solid billet.
@@spdcrzy totally agree witch your first comment... By the way, dont waist time responding emojis. ;)
Lmao - they sell ~ 10 units. No ones paying 1/2 1m
For this
Larry showing lots of love for Italian restomods lately. With good reason 😍
Would you travel to italy just to shoot one car????? Noooooo, unless you tupit
“Restomod” 🤔
When you watch Riccardo talking about his work and his design, you can see his passion for excellence, you can see his commitment to perfection. You can see his pride when Hagerty validates his effort right at the end of the video. I really wish we could have more interview tiime with Riccardo to talk about how he maintains and shares his energy level to achieve this level of excellence to his team, day in day out. Honestly I think we see the next Horacio Pagani in this guy. And to imagine he is only 28 and has decades of expression ahead of him...
Agreed, this is a project and a passion could get behind. With him at the helm and expression of freedom for design in his vision I'd love to hear more about the company and it's symmetry.
Jaw dropping retro re-engineering. This whole series.
My car nerd heart explodes with love and admiration.
This is for those that love and admire the engineering and artistry , and the magic of an internal combustion automobile. My heart explodes with affection!! 😊
I madly love the originals but this is absolutely next level.
Went to the company site after the video ...OMG
I'm SO happy this company is getting off the ground. May never afford one, but absolutely love the concept and implementation.
This guy seems to be a true prodigy,to be able to create this is such a short time frame is incredible
Every piece of the car is a work of art. From the trunk arms to the headlights. Absolutely beautiful.
How on earth does someone get to this point of automaking in just 6 years wow
Rich parents.
@@km6832 He worked at Fiat Chrysler as a designer and Honda. If I handed you $1M right now what would you accomplish?
@@km6832 Agree to a point. Money can't buy talent, dedication and attention to detail.
@@km6832 Plenty of people out there with rich parents achieving a fraction of this. It helps allows people to try their dreams, doesn't mean they'll succeed though.

This creation is up there at Singer level perfection, bravo!
"This is carbon Fibre and this is C and C, an thiiis is carbon Fibrrre" - love it
5 seconds into the video, and I'm in love. That car is absolutely beautiful. As a car guy, I literally got goosebumps seeing it.
You can absolutely tell every piece is made with pride every piece!! And is employing some awesome creators manufacturers
I may never see one in real life, much less afford one, but this is a beautiful real work of art . To the millionaires in the world . Buy one and drive it around. Please make someone's day special .
Never say never, life is full of surprises my friend
Totem and Manifattura Automobili Torino are nailing the coachbuilt car game out of Italy right now
An original and restored Giulia GT is wonderful! However, this Giulia GT restomod is worthy of being considered a masterpiece!! Simply wonderful and incredible!! Wow!!
Probably one of the most perfect builds I've ever seen
This is unbelievable, what an absolute masterpiece, most will not understand the magnitude of planning and work this project required. Incredible!
Riccardo Quaggio, very impressive vision and a gorgeous car.
The car is just beautiful - I can't believe what Riccardo has achieved at just 28! Bravo.
As a coach builder and designer with a dream of producing my own brand of car this is truly inspiring. Those aren't just parts there idea's in that mans head that he plucked out to share with the world i call it mechanical artwork and there is nothing quite like giving birth to your own creation.
He so much reminds me of Horatio Pagani. What an exceptionally talented and motivated young man.
I wish him many years of creative passion and success.
This might be THE most beautiful automobile I have ever seen.
The glimmering joy in his eyes while showing the fruits of his work. So humble, he doesn't make this parts himself but what a taste.
I'm pretty frugal but woul love to spend half a mil for such a beauty. Outstanding
"Because this is my idea I dont want to have traction control. If somebody want traction control they buy a Tesla not this kind of car, this car is for a MAN in my opinion hehe" Bro shooting facts only.
Why doesn’t the same logic apply to ABS?
Sad outdated prejudices right there. Sound like a knit frankly.
@@Kbebita not all nannies are similar: ABS is something different and much more important than traction control. Tractional control is a kind of noob type of nany, whereas ABS presence allows to drive car much faster even for pros who can adapt to both with or without abs.
Hilarious!!!!…And true!
Yeah, we heard him.
That car touched my soul just by looking at it. The details put into it shine through everything. This man is a clear artist. It is very fortunate he gets to give life to his passion. Hope you always have the money to keep creating more masterpieces. And be humble like this always :)
I have never seen something so impressive in the automotive industry come from such a small group of people.
This is car building on another level. Bloody wow.
Wow! And the pride of local high quality craftsmanship... I love it!
Wow. I've seen bits about Totem in my social media, but that was an amazing, exhaustive look at an amazing piece of art.
I know people are saying this is another mr pagani in the making, but please don't put that pressure on that poor talented man.
Horacio is a child prodigy, and started developing race cars since he was 16, prototypes for GT racing. He's also a known engineer, not just a designer.
Let this man be his own person, not be a shadow of another incredible person. Its good to compare but it's also a good idea to give them credibility to be what they want to be.
Loved to see Riccardo's dirt fingers, showing that he's in the shopfloor and working, not only managing from a fancy office. He's going places!!!!
15secs in and Im sold lol
You sir are building yourself to the Gordon, Mate, Christian and John table
It was very apparent when Top Gear included John Hennessy in their little CEO special that he has no place at that table. He is a tuner who just happened to find someone to build him his own chassis to stick a turbo LS in. It’s not innovative because he’s not an innovator. The others are.
Steve Saleen did what Hennessy has done, and arguably did it better, 20 years ago.
As great as this Alfa is, and I truly love it, it’s not innovative either. He’s built a hell of a car, but he hasn’t moved the entire concept of what is possible with cars forward.
@@patrickm4566 No, he's done something EXTREMELY difficult: a full carbon monocoque restomod with completely original proportions AND a bespoke engine - remember, this is 10% larger than the original. That requires a full ground-up design process. I'm pretty sure this car is way stiffer than even most modern cars, while being half as heavy.
@@spdcrzy They are not at all the original dimensions, and monocoque design is not difficult if you're handy with CAD/CAE.
@@patrickm4566 Yeah, you are right if you look at it from the innovation lenses, I get it and if that's the case we should put tiers on that table. For me it's more about 1 person's vision and the final product being impactful.
My table is more of a "the last supper", doesn't need to be exclusively Enzo, Etienne, Ayrton.. I have a chair for rob dickinson, this guy, Ian callum, akira nakai etc.
This is the ultimate car. Absolutely exquisite and fabulous. Words can’t do this justice.
THIS is the best restomod I have ever seen!
An incredible build but restomod it is not. The car is 10% bigger than original, has a new engine and a transaxle- so that's not a resto, it's a new car. Retaining the vin plate is a technicality.
@@garethmcrae668 Yeah for sure. I don't even understand why you would actually even need a "donor" car. I don't know about regulations etc., but I guess taking a VIN from the "donor" is easier than trying to get your company's own VIN series? So, maybe it's officially a resto-mod, but in reality this is absolutely a new and custom-built masterpiece from the ground up.
@@Matt-ex4ex That must be it- already has type approval, crash testing, etc. I thought in UK anyway, there was a points system for retaining registration at least- ie so much for original engine/ box/ chassis/ etc. Be interesting to see what it's classified as. An incredible reimagining of the Alfa, although my instinct would be to snap up an Alfaholics GTA-R for a third of a million and keep the saved £150k for petrol money...
@@garethmcrae668 THAT’s a plan I support 💯 percent. I’m now fighting the urge to search online for any Alfaholics that might be on the market 😂
This is easy one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Inside out. Quite remarkable engineering under the body too! That Ricardo guy is a legend.
i had a 74 alfa gtv back in 84 when i lived the Netherlands. seeing this, makes me want it again.
That's exactly what I have and but I'm not in love with this, it's an interesting concept with many nods to the GTA/GTV brilliantly realised but without a soul except the badge. I prefer what Alfaholics are doing.
I have a feeling somebody's gonna be calling this guy because they want him to work at their factory.I'm talking Ferrari Bugatti.Somebody's gonna be calling this guy.I guarantee it as they should. This guy is incredible. He's a car genius.I really like it
working for companies like ferrari or bugatti would be a massive downgrade for this guy
100% Why would he go backwards?
I don't have it. But it's worth a Stack of Money. He was in his Teens dreaming up this car I bet. WELL DONE YOUNG MAN! EXTREMELY WELL DONE!!!
One of the best small manufacturer builds I’ve seen. The attention to details reminds me of a Pagani but no lie, I’d choose one of these over a Pagani just because of its simplicity, rawness and retro design. Proper

Great video. 2 dudes with great style, thanks Larry and Riccardo. I would have this over a Singer all day long. So cool.
AMAZING. The attention to detail and super high quality is top.
As a porsche and ferrari owner I approve of this beautiful machine! Wow
Its really good, i could look at that car for hours after a drive. nice show Larry well shot
Sounds like a V6. Love the sound of a really good V6.
The sheer attention to detail and the effort he put in to retain as much of the look and feel of the original, but modernized is just such a pleasure to see. I can totally understand why people are willing to pay whatever amount he asks for one of these. It's absolutely stunning and each car is bespoke. There's nothing quite as good for hooking the attention of a rich person than telling them that they can spend more money to have a 1 of 1 car with everything customized to their preference.
Mind blown - every inch of this car deserves admiration
😮wooowwww what a classic! These cars are more beautiful than the modern cars👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It is really beautiful. And I respect that clean and very well designed parts, workmanship, hand crafting..
Well done!..
Many would argue but that is the most beautiful car ever made
You are a genius sir. People like you are extremely rare in this world nowadays. I wish you plenty of fortune. Lots and lots of Respect sir
F’k yeah, dude. Thank you for verbalizing that unmistakably!
Might be heresy but this seems like a better deal than a Singer. Beautiful car.
This "Alfa" is vile. Go buy a Tuthill 911K to experience a proper car.
That's what my question to the comments section was "if you could get either one fitted the way you wanted for 500k flat and you had the money to spend on one, which do you choose, a Singer Classic Study, or this?"
This, you're right, is on a higher level as they're effectively starting from scratch while Singer is still using the central chassis and changing everything else.... that's a really tough choice, especially if you throw in Alfaholics offering as well...but while Alfas are absolutely gorgeous and have that long seasoned history, I really don't know if I could turn down a Singer Classic and that glorious F6 😅
@@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 I've seen two Singer's in person. Every square inch (or centimeter) is stunning.
Most beautiful car I’ve seen in 2024. PERIOD.

With that weight, there should be a dial to choose horsepower,300hp 400hp , and then 600hp
This car is for a man!
Love the thought
Translation - this is a real car guy's car
