A slasher almost fully from the killer's point of view sounds like a cool concept. And aside from all the walking, I'd say it worked pretty well. Also, Aurora's yoga kill is insane.
Considering were potentially watching either part 3 or 4 I’d give it one more sequel before the movie is only 30 minutes long and we finally see how these killers teleport
Doctor Who, Smile. Bill: If he's chasing us, he's moving very slowly. Doctor: Do you know what it means when something chases you very slowly? Bill: What? Doctor: It means there's a reason that they don't have to run.
The ending scene of this movie had me and my friend so stressed out. We were just waiting for him to come back after losing focus on him. It’s like we lost that safety blanket out of nowhere
The thing is, you've been watching him this whole movie. You know he can't teleport and appear in those woods after they drove so far away. But it doesn't matter. It still FEELS like he could just show up out of nowhere and that's what the final girl's life is going to be like. Probably forever.

I actually loved the scenes where he's just walking. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and the camera work was stunning. I also enjoyed how the pacing picked up quickly after the second kill and it just feels like Johnny is becoming more angry and more unhinged the longer he goes without the necklace
@adamus311 James is not located in Michigan. He and Chelsea are from Michigan, but live in Los Angeles. They’ve lived there for over a decade. They’ve always been open about that.
I once heard someone describe this as a "nature documentary" on a Jason Voorhees-style character. I really like thinking about it that way, since following the killer makes it feel like it isn't a horror movie anymore. IMO that makes the perspective shift at the end really strong, since we're so used to following Johnny and seeing him walk around. We're suddenly afraid that he's just gonna teleport in even though the entire movie has established that he can't do that
The way I see it there's two ways to read the closing monologue: 1: Obvious metaphor- Yeah my brother also got attacked by a "Bear" because an undying humanoid with an axe just constantly wandering the woods is too hard to process and talk about 2: The bear is what she saw- Johnny is just the current incarnation of a nature spirit bound to the woods. Fifty years ago it looked like a bear, before that it looked like something else
I also thought it was about how nature is, by instinct and necessity, a violent place and how it doesn't care about your suffering. It's not malevolent, but it's not going to be nice and go out of its way to help you and if you get in its path it will wipe you out.
This movie reminded me of a videogame. There was something fun about how the audio of peoples conversations would fade in as we got closer, instead of making their conversations the focus as you get in a normal film.
Honestly I’m surprised I haven’t seen somebody try and make a Hitman-like sandbox slasher simulator I’ll take it over another licensed Dead by Daylight wannabe that’s completely deserted within a few months or weeks lol
@@MrSkerpentinealso, the dead by daylight esque clones work if done right, tcm had so much going for them ( totally not saying this because i used to make videos on it and have 1k hours on it ) if they hired workers from that initial launch money instead of being lazy it wouldve still been popular
We really got to appreciate how James makes these exceptions and keeps stuff uncensored, definitely shows how passionate he is about what he does over the money that comes with it.
I was lucky enough to catch this a few months before it's wide release with the editor in attendance. He did a short q&a afterward and in addition to the story of re-shooting the entire movie, he also mentioned Colt's death was referred to by he and Nash as their "Sideshow Bob stepping on rakes" moment I also thought it would be a great idea to have some edibles beforehand, and for a good chunk of the movie it was. The yoga kill was incredibly fun. Then we got to the log-splitter scene and it suddenly became much less fun 🙃
This is one of my all time favorites. I love hiking and nature sounds, so the walking was super chill, and there are plenty visual gags during the walking scenes. Repeat viewings is what made me love it.
what's very cool about this movie is that the guy that plays the killer used to work with me in a pub in Toronto. him and his wife are both aspiring actors and this was his big break. i'm glad it turned out well for him. he got invited to Comic con got to meet A list stars and he told me there's a sequel to A Violent Nature in the works. i could someday say i knew someone famous before they were famous
19:48 ...because as Zombieland once told us: "In those moments when you're not sure the undead are really DEAD dead, don't get all stingy with your bullets. I mean, one more clean shot to the head and this lady could have avoided becoming a human happy meal."
the evangelion influence also makes sense why its a bit slowly paced - evangelion loves long, quiet, still shots to make you really sit with what the characters are going through. no dialogue, just ambient noise for upwards of a minute.
That's what I was thinking too. The part of Brodie (around 14:12) was when I made that comparison in my head, only for it to seemingly be confirmed right away as intentional.
When I saw Aurora's death, I was so incredibly shocked by it and I found it on TH-cam and saved it to my phone so I could immediately show my dad, and he was also really shocked. For me personally it doesn't quite top Terrifier 2's bedroom scene, but it's an extremely close second in terms of my favorite horror movie kills.
Hey James. I hope that you, the Dead Meat team, Molly, and Lucy are doing alright. I was actually at LA Airport yesterday because I was flying home from a family trip that I went on, and I just kept talking about you and your channel and how much it’s changed my life. You’re the best, man!
It hasn't been age restricted yet when im watching this but it definetly seems to be supressed. It was the only new video from my subscription feed that wasn't recommended to me in my home page and I always get the non-supressed episodes recommended when they come out.
Nice To The Numbers bit, a little behind the scenes 😊 Glad you guys are safe, hope things get better over there Also, 23:49 Stop, stop! He’s already dead!
I love this movie so, so, sooooo much. From the set up of the ranger shack/mini-museum as well as the type of buildings all give me nostalgia from having grown up in old growth coniferous forests. A lot of my friends that I had shown it to describe it as "ambient horror" and, while it genuinely isn't for everyone, I believe this movie is a true masterpiece of the genre. From the use of practical effects for most of the movie, to the plot of "Johnny", it's just a love letter to all of its predecessors. When you do a second watch through, there is so much you realize that you hadn't picked up on during your first time seeing it. After having watched it ten times, I'm still finding little bits and pieces that I've missed. Truly a wonderful movie.
I love the behind the scenes on the original attempt at the film. It's nice to see such an honest depiction of how things can go wrong. Glad they made another attempt.
Yo this man is beyond creative, him and Matpat put so much effort into what could’ve simply been recorded over movie/game clips & I appreciate y’all for that
While i do love the yoga kill, an all timer, those others kills are so underrated like Colt's face hacking at the end. That shit is so brutal should receive an award for 2nd best kill like Silver Broomstick or something like this.
I love this movie, long ass walk scenes and all. I don’t mind a slow build up as long as something actually happens after all of it. This one really rewarded my patience.
I loved the detailed backstory they came up with for Johnny - and incidentally, the loggers didn't play the prank on Johnny because of his father's prices, they did it because one of their coworkers tripped on one of his toy trucks, spraining his ankle and taking him out of commission for a while, so they pranked him as revenge. Also, am I the only one who thinks Johnny died as an adult and not a child?
Yeah, I assumed that Johnny just had the mentality of a child. I guess it could also be that they were trying to do a Jason Voorhees homage by having him die as a child but inexplicably be resurrected as an adult. Friday the 13th part 2 makes it clear that Jason didn't actually die as a kid, but almost nobody outside of *really* die-hard horror fans seems to know that.
Probably because it also doesn't really explain what actually happened to him. Not until we get the "Pamela used the necronomicon" thing in "goes to hell".@@amityislandchum
The evolution of the Kill Count to be more about behind-the-scenes info is part of what sets it so far above any movie recap for me. I'm planning on watching the documentary on the first shoot because it sounds amazing.
We have to appreciate how James makes these allowances and keeps things unfiltered; it demonstrates how passionate he is about what he does despite the financial rewards.
Perfect timing, and very coincidental that you talk about the sound design. Was just visiting Toronto, and literally yesterday I popped in on a studio where I had recorded some stuff 18 years ago. Turns out this was the studio that handled the sound and music on this. The guy I spoke with was pleasantly surprised at the response the film got.
I just wanted to say Thank You James for these videos. I was always scared of watching horror movies, and your videos made me realize that they are not scary at all. It's just in my head, so thank you❤
James, I've become so fond of these Dead Meat videos recently and love revisiting my favorite horror films with you guys. Stay safe in California, my thoughts are with you.
I’m loving how horror is becoming more cinematic and focusing more on good camera work. Thank you so much for this! Also if it helps this came up on the home page of TH-cam as a recommendation!
That to the numbers bit was actually more interesting then most. It's cool to see just how maximized that room is for shooting videos. Pull down green screen and all that.
You’re telling me that while the whole Decepticon invasion was happening in Dark of The Moon, Jason was just chilling in the woods unaware of what as going on in the rest of the world? 😂
@mm123gchannel9 yeah, its wild, The Friday Reboot was produced by Michael Bay and he stuck Trent who was shia labeoufs bully in the Friday Reboot to kill him off.
This whole movie is like if Jason Voorhees took part in a walking simulator. Some really awesome kills and a soothing forest atmosphere, but at the same time…….it’s just a guy walking for 80 minutes, and that’s it
But is it genuinely less interesting than the cliché slasher movie that's happening if you move the camera from Johnny to the campers? It's a slow movie for sure, but at least it's doing something with that slowness instead of being over an hour of "I don't care" punctuated by those same brutal kills.
tbh this has got to be one of my top favourite horror movies. I just love how we get to see Jonny's perspective and see how he prepares these kills and get to see why he's doing this with a bit of humanity sprinkle into it and the end scene was just perfect! Showing us what happens to the finale girl after the credits with that shot of staring into the woods! I'm really happy this movie was covered and can't wait for the next movie in this franchise!
I think the coolest thing about this movie is the glimpses to "their movie" as you put it. especially when we realize there was another "movie" 10 years prior to the events of this one. Finding new ways to reinvent a decades old formula is awesome.
Log splitters are incredibly helpful when you heat your home with a woodstove in winter. But as with any piece of equipment involved with wood cutting and preparation, they're to be respected.
Damn, big thanks to James and co releasing this uncensored. It would have been easy to point people in the direction of the Patreon, but some of us can’t afford that and still adore the channel. That yoga kill was a bloody masterpiece!
I like that we hear Johnnys heavy footsteps mainly and the soon-to-be victims in the background like it’d probably be scary in a regular horror movie if it was vice-versa and it works in the former for this
My opinion is the log splitter scene is more just Johnny making sure it works, then making sure it works on human flesh (and bone), then cutting the head off
an indie horror movie that has a lotta problems? huh, reminds me of Markiplier’s “Iron Lung”. also i feel like these guys could’ve used the camera rigging that Mark and his team came up with for both “A Heist With Markiplier”, and “In Space With Markiplier”. i think theirs managed to be smaller
One of my absolute favourite movies of 2024. I love that it’s so meditative and gruesome and that it was a local Ontario film on a microbudget. Thank you for championing this film which made me decide to watch it.
I don't know why, but this whole movie made me think of the song "I'm gonna be" by the Proclaimers. Cause all I could think was: "I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more" 😂
This movie has one of the coolest concepts, where you see a horror movie from the slasher villain’s point of view. This was one of the best slashers I’ve seen in a long time. I can’t wait for the sequel!!
In a violent Nature is a really fun movie and I’d love to do my own slasher movie that takes perspective from the killer, and probably flesh it out a bit more! This movie is super fun and it gives a lot of love to the genre. Amazingly done
The look on the guys face while the dog was barking was just pure misery. He looks like someone who’s been in the woods for days trying to evade a man child murderer.
I forget where I heard this but the reason why the killer kept hitting the dead dudes crack skull ,at the end of the movie, is because the do legitimately scared the killer dude. which is now my head canon for that scene.
The wait for this KC was soo worth it! I understand why it was delayed, and I still hope everyone is safe. It was an amazing dive into how this film was made and I'm so glad I watched it beforehand. Also, the 'to the numbers' bit was so fucking funny

Each new video we learn more about the setup and behind the scenes stuff. Absolutely amazing!
The evolution of the Kill Count to be more about behind-the-scenes info is part of what sets it so far above any movie recap for me. I'm planning on watching the documentary on the first shoot because it sounds amazing.
Not gonna lie. I might need a movie where James is an unhinged killer who is mad that his roommate ate his sandwich one too many times.
I’d love a horror skit for some of the ads that’d be funny
And that sandwich should be a "moist maker."
We have to appreciate how James makes these allowances and keeps things unfiltered; it demonstrates how passionate he is about what he does despite the financial rewards.

“You gotta be patient to watch this movie”
I mean I waited this long
Perfect timing, and very coincidental that you talk about the sound design.
25:48 That’s how we got to the numbers this whole time
And for many reasons including this one, it's one of my favorite ones ever!
That to the numbers bit was actually more interesting then most. It's cool to see just how maximized that room is for shooting videos. Pull down green screen and all that.
Every one of your summaries feels like a mini masterpiece. I love how you highlight the key points
To be honest, filming a slasher movie from the killer's perspective is genius! Glad the kills did NOT disappoint!
I'm glad you mentioned Trent also being in Transformers cause that's so bizarre, like Jason and Optimus Prime in the same universe
You’re telling me that while the whole Decepticon invasion was happening in Dark of The Moon, Jason was just chilling in the woods unaware of what as going on in the rest of the world? 😂
@mm123gchannel9 yeah, its wild,
The Friday Reboot was produced by Michael Bay and he stuck Trent who was shia labeoufs bully in the Friday Reboot to kill him off.
I think it was because Michael Bay directed both and wanted it that way for some reason.
In A Violent Nature kill count on my birthday?? I've been waiting for this one!!!
Happy Birthday!!🎉🎉
Happy Birthday!!!!
It's my birthday too! Happy birthday bro!
Happy birthday! Funnily enough, it’s my birthday too
@thomasffrench3639 happy b day bro
16:14 that is one of the most creatively fucked up deaths I've ever seen. *chef's kiss*
Holy crap its Craig splintercell
Hello critical!!
The Fenton reference wasn’t something I expected in a kill count but the joy it being me is endless!
I have been hearing so much about the yoga kill… and THANK YOU James for letting me seeing it (uncensord)
Damn, big thanks to James and co releasing this uncensored. It would have been easy to point people in the direction of the Patreon, but some of us can’t afford that and still adore the channel. That yoga kill was a bloody masterpiece!
I like that we hear Johnnys heavy footsteps mainly and the soon-to-be victims in the background like it’d probably be scary in a regular horror movie if it was vice-versa and it works in the former for this
I love that this is uncensored. The kills in this movie are so creative they deserve it. Solid work my friend.
It really lives to its title "in a violent nature"
One of the best To the Numbers bits yall have ever done lol
We at last saw him get to the numbers in this one.
I don't know why, but this whole movie made me think of the song "I'm gonna be" by the Proclaimers. Cause all I could think was: "I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more" 😂
I feel like I’ve seen this already
@@Z3R0NU11 Source? I'd actually like to see that.
@@h.u.n.k493 oh I’m not claiming I for sure have haha, just sounds really familiar lmfao
... and you will watch (almost) every step I do in this movie. ;)
Someone NEEDS to make an edit of this you're so brilliant 😂
This movie has one of the coolest concepts, where you see a horror movie from the slasher villain’s point of view.
This was one of the best slashers I’ve seen in a long time.
I can’t wait for the sequel!!
23:43 I love how this was the only outright jumpscare of the movie. Which might explain Johnny's extra reaction.
In a violent Nature is a really fun movie and I’d love to do my own slasher movie that takes perspective from the killer, and probably flesh it out a bit more! This movie is super fun and it gives a lot of love to the genre. Amazingly done
Johnny Deserves All The Toy Cars In The World
16:15 i love when james gets so excited counting a kill ita always so funny
The look on the guys face while the dog was barking was just pure misery. He looks like someone who’s been in the woods for days trying to evade a man child murderer.
26:31 you never leave the room?! We've been lied to😡😅
Damn I also thought that James Is also go to a different room
23:45 bro didnt waste time 💀
16:32 your reaction was actually really funny!
I forget where I heard this but the reason why the killer kept hitting the dead dudes crack skull ,at the end of the movie, is because the do legitimately scared the killer dude. which is now my head canon for that scene.
22:00 YES HE BROUGHT THE WoOoOoOOoOOAaAAaAaAAaaAh BACK!!!!!
9:19 “Paul holt !”
The “JOH-NNY SLASH-ER” wrestling chant got a pop from me 😂 love that shit.
Great video, James! Thanks for leaving it uncensored. This was fun to watch.
Awesome job thanks for taking one for the team its nice to see it like it used to be before TH-cam gave you issues
The wait for this KC was soo worth it! I understand why it was delayed, and I still hope everyone is safe. It was an amazing dive into how this film was made and I'm so glad I watched it beforehand. Also, the 'to the numbers' bit was so fucking funny
