- There are various games that are set in alternative history scenarios, usually distopias like Deus Ex and Cyberpunk. We often think that Alt History is as simple as changing one event in history and form there extrapolate a story, but there is more complexity behind the scenes. In this video Dandoz and I explore the different shades alt history has in video games, how uchronias can actually be of various kinds, four in our analysis. There are games less realistic like Wolfenstein, games quite detailed in their lore like the Hearts of Iron 4 mod Kaiserreich, or games that aim to be realistic like Expeditions Rome. How history is used in gaming is very intresting, and alt history is in par with it. I hope you will enjoy the video! :)

wolfenstein: the new order for me its just an whacky and actually funny non realistic version of 'The New Order: Last Days of Europe.', another hoi4 mod set in an world where the AXIS (not just germany) not only won ww2 but also eventually gave rise to an shadow orwellian esoteric superstate created to appease himmler and his supporters in the SS to avoid the civil war, its name being the SS Ordenstaadt Burgunden, an Important part of the mod because it has plans for total nuclear annihilation under the excuse of 'purging' the world if it wasn't already in a depressing state, overall, a pretty creative realistic version of a dystopia, what separates both the TNO mod's dystopia from the wolfenstein games's dystopia is that TNO is just genuinelly whacky in the terrifying sense while wolfenstein is whacky in the funny sense and thats why i love both.
I did not know the existence of hid mod and I think the comparison is quite intresting, it would ha e definitely be part of the debate if we knew about it. Hope you enjoyed the video!
