As a french man if you want a game who is not in France but where the universe look a lot like France, play Disco Elysium, Révachol, the city where the game take place has characters with french accent and french names, a history who make a lot think to french history, à architectural style who look like Hausmann. I know that the developers are estonians but to be honest, they made a good representation of french mentality on a lot of subject, even if Révachol is fictive

Revachol is definitely culturally French, but it's also set on an archipelago in that universe's New World. I guess you might say it's a sort of Caribbean Québec.
I'm from Amiens and i can confirm that Eternal Darkness has 2 levels set in the city's cathedral, one in 1945 and the other in 800 (even if the cathedral we see was actually built between 1220 and 1288) but it's still fun fun to see your hometown and it's most famous landmark in a game. As a French: THANKS for avoiding Paris as much as you could XD (you have no idea how most Frenchies actually kind of dislike, or even hate our capital, we're still surprised by how much foreign people fantasize about it) ! Looking for games taking place in various locations outside our "main" region (Île-de-France) gave a very interesting list, honestly.
Not gonna lie, when I was making the script I gave it for granted that half the video would have been about Paris, but then I realised that there were so many locations across the whole country that it made more sense to focus on those rather than to list like 20-30 games set in the same city. Paris is a beautiful capital, but is not the whole of France! I am glad that the drastic change made was appreciated by french people like yourself

I initially had it on my list of games but I later tought to go more with geographic areas, so to include New Caledonia with "Games set in Polynesia" and French Guyana with "Games set in South America" or similar, since (while being both French territories) culturally and geographically they share more with the countries and islands near them than with France in Europe. French here, am really surprised there was no games with Lyon as it epicenter. The city hills are perfect for ww2 games or roman time since the city was named Lugdunum. Also the city of Bourges knowed during the roman time as Avaricum. In the end, really good video.

I suppose that Eurotruck Sim 2 does have Lyon, but I didn't want to count this game since it is focused on the highways rather than the cities themselves; besides it has the whole country. I'm more surprise there are none in brittany, for modern warfare type of game : Brest, Lorient, l'île longue... there are along with Toulon where all the franch navy set base. if they were sailboat racing game there would be a bunch set in lorient. thoo with all the pirate games there ar, specifically ones made by UBIsoft (union des bretons indépendants software) it's weird that not once the city home to the compagnie des indes, lorient, is never depicted.

I'm glad you liked the music selection and hopefully the the video. I did not highlighted it in this third video, but in the two previous episodes of this mini series I did state that I will be listing games set in the country and not inspired regions (for the video of Spain I used Paldea from Pokemon Scarlet as an example). STILL, Pokemon X & Y do deserve credit for their France-vibe and they are splendid games that do France justice, even if not set in a specific part of the country.
I’m not from Outre-Mer regions, but honestly it would have been cool for developers to also mention these regions, such as Martinique, Réunion, Guadeloupe or Guyane, they have really cool environment and culture too ;)
Wile I am aware that there are French islands across all continents, I think it makes more geographical sense to place them in other videos. Like the French carabbean islands in a video "All Games set in the Caribbean" and French Polynesia "All Games set in Polynesia". Again, fully aware these places are 100% France, but I went with a more geographic criteria than only political (British Gibraltar is in Spain's video)

Deus Ex comes to mind. A ton of flight simulators, especially ww1 & 2, for those who don't have the whole world of course. World War Two Online was in the France/Benelux/Germany region of Europe.
There's also two sets of games that majorly take place in France: the Tour de France and Pro Cycling Manager video games :D Also, Battlefield series had several maps in France besides BF1 and BFV, the most famous one being Operation Métro in BF3 and BF4, and Seine Crossing in BF3. BF2142 also had Verdun, but there's also Cerbere Landing. And lately, BF2042 had a map that takes place in Kourou in French Guyana. If we put WW2 CoD games aside, MW3 had a sequence in Paris and the MP map Resistance, and the latest MWIII now has a Paris map.

Gotta say that you missed 2 rally spots in France : Monte Carlo (technically Monaco, but you spoke about the F1 circuit so it would only be fair), and Lohéac in Brittany (rallycross, available in multiple licences). Pretty sad to not see any game taking place in Brittany, you just confirmed my fear

MANY history wargames are obviously in France, so it's not worth talking about them, however I'd add add to your list two RTS titles that shows nice and unique terrain in France. Endwar has two maps in France : one is Paris (classic) and the second one is very unique as it's a battle just under the Viaduc de Millau (one of the tallest bridge of the world). This last one is so unique that it should have deserved to appear in your video. World in conflict has 2 missions in Southern France, in Provence. I don't remember well this last case. I also remember two levels from Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. A fictive laboratory in Paris and... the Paris-Nice TGV ! Speaking about train, Mission : Impossible for N64 and PS1 has some levels in the Eurostar. A list would be more long that I imagined. Nice selection, by the way ! Never heard about Dordogne, it looks really nice.

Sorry for not finding any games set there specifically; but for your consolidation I do know the DLC for Eurotruck Simulation 2 depicts the whole country and perhaps some landmarks in Occitania. Would be cool to play a game in the western Mediterranean or in the Pyrenees!
With Medal of Honour I believe it was actually an earlier game that did D-Day and Frontline took the popular protagonist of the first game and got him to do D-Day as well for whatever reason. Allied Assault would have "set the standard" and I seem to remember it being the first game to do D-Day.

I can't help but notice the pokemon soundtracks playing in the background, and I have to mention that pokemon X/Y take place in a region mostly inspired by France. Now of course, it is heavily shrinked and is more of a nod than an actual depiction of France, but still I think it deserved to have been mentioned !
I did not say it this video but in the two previous ones I made (Spain and Italy) I did state more explicitly that I would not include inspired games; in the video of Spain I used Paldea of Pokemon Scarlet as an example. Two more strategy games I'd add to the list: Dawn of the Modern World (one of its campaigns is set in France, and it was the successor to Empire Earth), and Officers :WW2 - Operation Overlord (which was a game with massive maps similar to World in Conflict).

That's a very good suggestion that I did consider, finding two games set or inspired by French New Caledonia, however I think it makes more sense to group games with "Games set in Polynesia" or something since they share a closer geography than to mainland France. Glad you liked the video! Just like I did in the Spanish and Italian videos, I only listed games set specifically in France and not just inspired. In the two other videos, I made this a bit more explicit in the introduction (using Paldea as an example of a game I would not include) but this is not to say that Pokemon X and Y are not valid games!

I really like the fact that you did not focus on paris that much. Too many people talk of France when they are refering to paris especially tourist, but there is soooo much more than that and the people are usually more friendly on the contryside (there is till grumpy people, but they are everywhere in the world anyway) If someone wants to truely visit France, of course they should visit paris, but also at least a little part of the contryside, they will have a way different vision of the contry and it's diverse cultures.

A little old but Onimusha 3 was half set in France, half in Japan. And in Castlevania Bloodline on Genesis (very old lol) you had stages in different European countries, the French stage was in Versailles (the Italy stage was on the tower of Pisa).
As I wrote in other comments, I decided to go more in a geographic direction with these videos, meaning I will adress places like New Caledonia in a "Games in Oceania" (or similar) video. In the Spain video for instance I did mention Gibraltar. I was not aware of the importance the French gave to the territories away from Europe and I apologise if this decision was controversial, I promise I will adress all of this games in future videos. I'm glad you liked the music selection and hopefully the the video. I did not highlighted it in this third video, but in the two previous episodes of this mini series I did state that I will be listing games set in the country and not inspired regions (for the video of Spain I used Paldea from Pokemon Scarlet as an example). STILL, Pokemon X & Y do deserve credit for their France-vibe and they are splendid games that do France justice, even if not set in a specific part of the country.
I’m not from Outre-Mer regions, but honestly it would have been cool for developers to also mention these regions, such as Martinique, Réunion, Guadeloupe or Guyane, they have really cool environment and culture too ;)
Wile I am aware that there are French islands across all continents, I think it makes more geographical sense to place them in other videos. Like the French carabbean islands in a video "All Games set in the Caribbean" and French Polynesia "All Games set in Polynesia". Again, fully aware these places are 100% France, but I went with a more geographic criteria than only political (British Gibraltar is in Spain's video)

There's also two sets of games that majorly take place in France: the Tour de France and Pro Cycling Manager video games :D
Also, Battlefield series had several maps in France besides BF1 and BFV, the most famous one being Operation Métro in BF3 and BF4, and Seine Crossing in BF3. BF2142 also had Verdun, but there's also Cerbere Landing. And lately, BF2042 had a map that takes place in Kourou in French Guyana.
If we put WW2 CoD games aside, MW3 had a sequence in Paris and the MP map Resistance, and the latest MWIII now has a Paris map.

MANY history wargames are obviously in France, so it's not worth talking about them, however I'd add add to your list two RTS titles that shows nice and unique terrain in France.
Endwar has two maps in France : one is Paris (classic) and the second one is very unique as it's a battle just under the Viaduc de Millau (one of the tallest bridge of the world). This last one is so unique that it should have deserved to appear in your video.
World in conflict has 2 missions in Southern France, in Provence. I don't remember well this last case.
I also remember two levels from Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. A fictive laboratory in Paris and... the Paris-Nice TGV !
Speaking about train, Mission : Impossible for N64 and PS1 has some levels in the Eurostar.

With Medal of Honour I believe it was actually an earlier game that did D-Day and Frontline took the popular protagonist of the first game and got him to do D-Day as well for whatever reason. Allied Assault would have "set the standard" and I seem to remember it being the first game to do D-Day.

I can't help but notice the pokemon soundtracks playing in the background, and I have to mention that pokemon X/Y take place in a region mostly inspired by France. Now of course, it is heavily shrinked and is more of a nod than an actual depiction of France, but still I think it deserved to have been mentioned !

I'll cheat for that one : Microsoft Flight Simulator, it covers the whole world at 1:1 scale including France, that had some updates for more accurate data.

Two more strategy games I'd add to the list: Dawn of the Modern World (one of its campaigns is set in France, and it was the successor to Empire Earth), and Officers :WW2 - Operation Overlord (which was a game with massive maps similar to World in Conflict).

If you are interested you can complete the list with France's overseas territories (like French Polynesia and French Guyana). I don't know how many (if any) games are set there but I'm pretty curious.
That's a very good suggestion that I did consider, finding two games set or inspired by French New Caledonia, however I think it makes more sense to group games with "Games set in Polynesia" or something since they share a closer geography than to mainland France. Still, hopw you enjoyed the video and stay tuned for more countries around the world!

Glad you liked the video! Just like I did in the Spanish and Italian videos, I only listed games set specifically in France and not just inspired. In the two other videos, I made this a bit more explicit in the introduction (using Paldea as an example of a game I would not include) but this is not to say that Pokemon X and Y are not valid games!
One worth mentioning is Euro Truck Simulator 2 - set your business up in France and enjoy your driving. A series lauded for its acurate landscapes.
That's an amazing example but I did want to avoid including in all of my videos games that depict the whole country (like Euro or Flight Sim) just to make the lists more distinctive. Still, I hope you liked the video

Making the PC version run isn't easy and it runs awfully on emulators, sadly.

I really like the fact that you did not focus on paris that much. Too many people talk of France when they are refering to paris especially tourist, but there is soooo much more than that and the people are usually more friendly on the contryside (there is till grumpy people, but they are everywhere in the world anyway) If someone wants to truely visit France, of course they should visit paris, but also at least a little part of the contryside, they will have a way different vision of the contry and it's diverse cultures.

A little old but Onimusha 3 was half set in France, half in Japan.
And in Castlevania Bloodline on Genesis (very old lol) you had stages in different European countries, the French stage was in Versailles (the Italy stage was on the tower of Pisa).

As I wrote in other comments, I decided to go more in a geographic direction with these videos, meaning I will adress places like New Caledonia in a "Games in Oceania" (or similar) video. In the Spain video for instance I did mention Gibraltar. I was not aware of the importance the French gave to the territories away from Europe and I apologise if this decision was controversial, I promise I will adress all of this games in future videos. I thank you for your feedback and I hope you still enjoyed the video!
