I'm 74 and grew up, like many of you here, listening to the very best bands that ever existed. The Moody Blues were, and still are, my very favorite by a mile. I've been fortunate to see them live 13 times in my life. They were the only band whose music I completely listened to, focusing on every word of their story. I would listen to them in pitch dark with my Pioneer headphones on, and literally drift away into their world of unrestricted vision and euphoria. No other band then, or since, has had that effect on me. To call them unique is a major understatement. They clearly are the best combination of incredibly talented musicians that may never be seen again. RIP, Ray, and thank you for your contributions. P.S. - fifty two years later, I still have the headphones and they still work. Some of the very best memories of my life!
Moody Blues plus Pioneer Headphones... Swoon! I'm 64 but I was also blown away, sitting in my bedroom, with my parents pottering around downstairs, listening to MB albums on the cheap portable my Dad gave me. No Pioneer headphones for me until much later, but they were the best.
Ever since I heard Nights In White Satin for the first time in the mid 70's it became and still is my favorite song. My oldest brother bought the album it was on and I would only be able to listen to it when he was and he would not let me play it when he was not around. I've never heard this song I just listened to and it is very relaxing too.
73 here, seen them twice, in Long Beach and Salt Lake City. What I remember from the Huntsman Center in SLC, was the bassline from "The Other Side of Life." The song started, the bass kicked in, the walls of the arena started shaking, the capacity crowd of teens, their parents, and assorted geezers like me started hypnotically swaying as one. And me, laughing, on exiting the show, watching the teens sneaking out, hoping their friends wouldn't see them at a "Boomer" show...good times!
I'm going to 70 next month and the Moody Blues are my favored group for 53 years already. The reasons you have excellent described. At my funeral I go into the next life with the Moody Blues.
I gave my son my my entire record collection, which included all of the Moody Blues albums. He bought a 60s vintage stereo console to play them on. Some of them do appreciate the good stuff. He loved it because he was exposed to it daily. I play music 24/7. He didn't stand a chance. 😊
hii!! this was posted a year ago but still... I'm 16 now, and I absolutely love the moody blues. I found stepping in a slide zone in one of my spotify recommendations, and since I've collected all their albums on vinyl, I even have the collectors edition cds, they've completely changed my life!!

I'm 73 lost my daughter and son Yr half apart a few yrs ago the pain day after day is vile I layed them together in a grave sister and brother with a few words along with a lot more my words are my life will be forever autumn cause your not here x
My best friend and I use to sit on a waterbed with a quadraphonic stereo in our early 20's. 1971-72. We were in Gainesville at UF Architectural school. At each corner of the room a speaker. He just went through major open heart surgery today. I cried in relief when i heard the operation was a success. We have committed to spending more time together. Spirit and the Moodys brought us together and we continue as best friends. Love their music and always will.
I am retiring from my job tomorrow, and this song will always be with me! We are all in the 'HANDS OF TIME' and we need to slow down and enjoy our lives!! ❤
I am 68 years old and have been listening to The Moody blues daily since I was a teenager. Listening to The Moody blues is one of my most favorite things to do.
The Moody Blues collectively have a way with words and emotion. They convey depth, sensitivity, intelligence, spiritual emphasis, love, and, discernment in human life. They are above any and all contrasts. The Moody Blues exist in a musical universe by themselves. Throughout time they will have NO one else who can even come even remotely close to what they have done. God bless them for how much they have enriched so many lives, mine included.
Beautiful and very wise. As a 65-year-old, I recommend serving this piece to young people, because our human life is indeed similar to a burning candle.

I’m not in the 7 club anyway I’m 65 and old enough to say that we have gone through the best music decade ever. From 66 to 76 + 2 more years. After that everything is coming down hill. This kind of music keep us going steady.

I recall listening to this on a 33 and a third vinyl album way up in the mountains of Western Carolina university. No car, no phone, no computer. Just excellent music...and here I am today, age 70, still listening. Gives me hope.

I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite song of theirs, they are all my favorites, and being 82 I have a lot of catching up to do. I must have been asleep thirty or so years ago to have missed these guys. God I love these guys and got to see Justin Hayward last Thurs at the Egg in Albany. I have never had such a grand time in my life as I did then, even if I did trip on a curb coming in and landed face first on the cement. Bent my glasses all to h--- and have a nice shiner now and what a concert it was. He was great and in great voice, I cried when he sang Watching and Waiting, couldn't help it that song gets me every time.I will remember this concert for as long as I am allowed on this earth. And my thanks to each and everyone who posts their songs so I can have the fun I missed all those years ago. God I love these guys

I'm now 63. Listened to Days OFP when it was first released. I was helping a friend paint his parent's house in Outback NSW, Australia. We had a crappy turntable and DOFP. Nothing else. We easily played it 100 times over a 3-day session. After that, I was an MB tragic. Every girlfriend I had was given the MB intro. Not one didn't like them. They have been there for me for the last 50+ years. At every bad time in my life they were there and always with a pertinent song to help me along. And more so in the last 6 months after being diagnosed with Prostate cancer (I was not aware at the time that Ray has passed from this cancer). It appears that 99% is gone and maybe even 100%. I had 39 radiation treatments over an 8 wk period and whilst motionless on the machine I would request my music thru their system which piped into the lab. The MB's got a helluva good workout. The young technicians started coming up to me to ask who they were being played (much to their surprise they really liked the music and unique sounds). More converts! My point? Every day whilst motionless being treated I was crying my eyes out with the emotions running thru me. I never used to cry, not sure why I do now but I think it all takes me back to better times? You never go on to any other band's website etc and have the fans saying how their music saved them etc (OK, maybe there's another band but get my drift) as you do with the MB's. Question? I'm surprised how little variation there is in available original videos/live concerts/etc. Apart from TH-cam is there anywhere else to find this? I am a member of the Fanclub but admit I rarely go there. Thank you, EVERYBODY. SUCH A DIVERSE GROUP OF PEOPLES WITH ONE COMMON LOVE

The Moody Blues are my religion! Their music is filled with spirituality, positivity, love and important messages. I've been a fan and follower since the 60s. Had "Isn't Life Strange" (my personal anthem) played as I walked down the aisle; and it is in my will that it will be played at my funeral. God bless the Moodies!

I guess you can tell I love the Moody's, particularly so, since I really became aware of the words in a song for the first time. Coming home from Vietnam in 1970 I was sort of a lost soul. I found relief and solitude at the same time when I listened to their music. It was during this time depression became my friend and unknown to me at the time I would become a victim of what they now call PTSD. I don't know how I made it through those first years but I know the Moody's became part of my life. My turn around, to being a survivor was when the song "New Horizons" came out. That song along with others like "Melancholy Man" and "Candle of Life", will always be a part of my life.
This was the first Moodies Album I bought, Children's Children in 69 or 70. They certainly influenced me profoundly. I'm sure they have heard it all from their fans and yes they are just Rock and Roll musicians, but somehow incredibly deep thoughts and feeling came through them. They were vessels for something our world individually and collectively yearn for. In my humble opinion. Thank you for sharing your videos.
I was 16 yrs old in 1971, We were setting up the weekend to be perfect at our friend's (parent's) house who was now living in an affluent part of Long Island... The parents were AWAY for a whole week on a cruise. One friend set up his super fine sound system. We all teamed up to prepare a weekend's worth of nutritious and tasty food, The "special" package we were anticipating finally arrived. It was sent from a friend who was attending UC Berkeley. The package contained "Window Pane". Carefully following instructions, laid out by Dr Tim Leary, we prepared the "set and setting" for the weekend's journey We were in need of absolutely NOTHING. The turntable was loaded with albums to play in succession. King Crimson, YES, ELP, Rennaisance, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Beatles, It's a Beautiful Day, and of course THE MOODY BLUES. This was the first time I got to hear To Our Children's Children's Children in its entirety and that is when I fell in love with this album. This song Candle of Life is my all-time favorite. It's just perfection. That weekend was transformational... it set me off in a new direction.
I was born in '75. My mother loved The Moody Blues, so naturally I was named Justin. I remember her playing their records all throughout my childhood. To this day, whenever I hear their music, I think of how blessed I was as a child. Life and the memories we keep are so precious!

My daughter and I saw the Moodies in Kingston Ontario at the K-Rock Centre this past year and totally loved it. I now write music and have been for years now with the Moody Blues as my mentors.

@@trevorwilliams632 Meh, wouldn't call them "defunct," but without Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder there isn't much power left in them. Hayward and Lodge are starting to throttle back now, too, getting into more solo projects and stuff. Kinda hope Hayward and Lodge can put together one more album as a bookend to _Blue Jays_ and call it a career.
@@briane173 I recently read an interview from John Lodge who claims he wants to tour as a Moody Blue but Justin isn't interested, preferring his solo work with Julie Ragin and Mike Dawes. I met his daughter Emily who is also his manager teo years ago when John did a solo tour in the UK. I asked her if there were any future Moody Blues tours planned and she said John is interested but the others ( at that time Justin and Graeme) are not. I agree a follow up album to Blue Jay's would be nice but probably not realistic now Justin is living in Monaco with the studio in Italy conveniently close by..
Ii recently bought a CD with this song onit and played it while driving my son to his karate class. At 10 yrs. old he wants to hear it over and again. Good music just gets passed on...

I’am sixty two now but when I listen to the Moody Blues It takes me back to my youth and there is such a peace and warmth that their music produces in me that no other band can create.

I was 5 years old when I heard "go now" on my sisters transistor radio on Kacey Kasim's top 100. I couldn't find who sang it. after wearing out three albums of each album of days of future passed, on the threshold of a dream,seventh sojourn and in search of the lost chord. I was at my cousins house in Kentucky. 12 years later, I found a best of moody blues album. and there the first song was "go now".I couldn't believe that my favorite childhood song was from my favorite teenage band. rock on Moody Blues you're the best.

The best of us land on our mugs once in a while...and you just proved it. Sorry you had that distraction, but I see you still :"dug" the show. I made 13 moodies concerts...am 70. The Utica Moody Blues show after the Boilermaker footrace was, I think

I'm now 63. Listened to Days OFP when it was first released. I was helping a friend paint his parent's house in Outback NSW, Australia. We had a crappy turntable and DOFP. Nothing else. We easily played it 100 times over a 3-day session. After that, I was an MB tragic. Every girlfriend I had was given the MB intro. Not one didn't like them. They have been there for me for the last 50+ years. At every bad time in my life they were there and always with a pertinent song to help me along. And more so in the last 6 months after being diagnosed with Prostate cancer (I was not aware at the time that Ray has passed from this cancer). It appears that 99% is gone and maybe even 100%. I had 39 radiation treatments over an 8 wk period and whilst motionless on the machine I would request my music thru their system which piped into the lab. The MB's got a helluva good workout. The young technicians started coming up to me to ask who they were being played (much to their surprise they really liked the music and unique sounds). More converts!
My point?
Every day whilst motionless being treated I was crying my eyes out with the emotions running thru me. I never used to cry, not sure why I do now but I think it all takes me back to better times?
You never go on to any other band's website etc and have the fans saying how their music saved them etc (OK, maybe there's another band but get my drift) as you do with the MB's.

I'm surprised how little variation there is in available original videos/live concerts/etc. Apart from TH-cam is there anywhere else to find this? I am a member of the Fanclub but admit I rarely go there. Thank you, EVERYBODY.

@@MrAdvance2go Yeah, I think it's Pinder on the mellortron, which I only realized a couple of yeas back isn't really even a grand piano, I always thought I was hearing before. The piano part is PERFECT.

The Moody Blues are my religion! Their music is filled with spirituality, positivity, love and important messages. I've been a fan and follower since the 60s. Had "Isn't Life Strange" (my personal anthem) played as I walked down the aisle; and it is in my will that it will be played at my funeral. God bless the Moodies!

I guess you can tell I love the Moody's, particularly so, since I really became aware of the words in a song for the first time. Coming home from Vietnam in 1970 I was sort of a lost soul. I found relief and solitude at the same time when I listened to their music. It was during this time depression became my friend and unknown to me at the time I would become a victim of what they now call PTSD. I don't know how I made it through those first years but I know the Moody's became part of my life. My turn around, to being a survivor was when the song "New Horizons" came out. That song along with others like "Melancholy Man" and "Candle of Life", will always be a part of my life.

This was the first Moodies Album I bought, Children's Children in 69 or 70. They certainly influenced me profoundly. I'm sure they have heard it all from their fans and yes they are just Rock and Roll musicians, but somehow incredibly deep thoughts and feeling came through them. They were vessels for something our world individually and collectively yearn for. In my humble opinion. Thank you for sharing your videos.
I was 16 yrs old in 1971, We were setting up the weekend to be perfect at our friend's (parent's) house who was now living in an affluent part of Long Island... The parents were AWAY for a whole week on a cruise.
One friend set up his super fine sound system. We all teamed up to prepare a weekend's worth of nutritious and tasty food,
The "special" package we were anticipating finally arrived. It was sent from a friend who was attending UC Berkeley. The package contained "Window Pane".
Carefully following instructions, laid out by Dr Tim Leary, we prepared the "set and setting" for the weekend's journey
We were in need of absolutely NOTHING.
The turntable was loaded with albums to play in succession.
King Crimson, YES, ELP, Rennaisance, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Beatles, It's a Beautiful Day, and of course THE MOODY BLUES.
This was the first time I got to hear To Our Children's Children's Children in its entirety and that is when I fell in love with this album.
This song Candle of Life is my all-time favorite. It's just perfection.
That weekend was transformational... it set me off in a new direction.
I was born in '75. My mother loved The Moody Blues, so naturally I was named Justin. I remember her playing their records all throughout my childhood. To this day, whenever I hear their music, I think of how blessed I was as a child. Life and the memories we keep are so precious!

I'm sitting listening to this unforgettable song of The Moody Blues, I always loved and cherished. Sitting with tears in my eyes loving every moment, thank you for this. My daughter and I saw the Moodies in Kingston Ontario at the K-Rock Centre this past year and totally loved it.
I now write music and have been for years now with the Moody Blues as my mentors.
I Love Moody Blues they control my feelings every time i listen to its hard to explain crying and laughing at the same moment and goosebumbs all over my body

@@trevorwilliams632 Meh, wouldn't call them "defunct," but without Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder there isn't much power left in them. Hayward and Lodge are starting to throttle back now, too, getting into more solo projects and stuff. Kinda hope Hayward and Lodge can put together one more album as a bookend to _Blue Jays_ and call it a career.
@@briane173 I recently read an interview from John Lodge who claims he wants to tour as a Moody Blue but Justin isn't interested, preferring his solo work with Julie Ragin and Mike Dawes. I met his daughter Emily who is also his manager teo years ago when John did a solo tour in the UK. I asked her if there were any future Moody Blues tours planned and she said John is interested but the others ( at that time Justin and Graeme) are not. I agree a follow up album to Blue Jay's would be nice but probably not realistic now Justin is living in Monaco with the studio in Italy conveniently close by..
Ii recently bought a CD with this song onit and played it while driving my son to his karate class. At 10 yrs. old he wants to hear it over and again. Good music just gets passed on...

I’am sixty two now but when I listen to the Moody Blues It takes me back to my youth and there is such a peace and warmth that their music produces in me that no other band can create.

I feel the same way. Sometimes you discover great gems from a group or artist that you were not initially aware of.
I was 5 years old when I heard "go now" on my sisters transistor radio on Kacey Kasim's top 100. I couldn't find who sang it. after wearing out three albums of each album of days of future passed, on the threshold of a dream,seventh sojourn and in search of the lost chord. I was at my cousins house in Kentucky. 12 years later, I found a best of moody blues album. and there the first song was "go now".I couldn't believe that my favorite childhood song was from my favorite teenage band. rock on Moody Blues you're the best.
I've been listening to them since the 70's (all of their albums) and each time I listen to them I get that same feeling...true gold!
