    First saw the Moody Blues in 1969. Have seen them over 70 times and am gonna see Justin again in 2 weeks. They not only have BEAUTIFUL music, but VERY DEEP and meaningful lyrics. Still love to put in my ear buds and listen to On the Threshold of a Dream in it's entirety . THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!!!

    There are still people who refuse to believe that the five Moody Blues are playing every single sound and instrument of this, or that they even performed it live on a regular basis! No wonder Tony Clarke called them "the world's smallest symphony orchestra". That's exactly what they are. After hearing this for the first time, all those years ago, it was "mellotron or bust!" for me. Took a while....but I GOT ONE and still have the gorgeous thing! By God, we were lucky to have them during our lifetimes, because we will never see the like of this band again. And that's truly sad.

    I got hooked on the Moody Blues in the 60's. Went to evey live perfomance I could. Have seen them enconcert with a full symphony orchestra. Those that pretend to know have always categorized the Moody Blues as a Progressive Rock band. I've always used a different term. In my opinion the Moody Blues were aways a Cerebral Rock Band. They required the listener to THINK. Think about the messages contained within the music in their albums. People have wondered why the Moody Blues were never a big hit on the radio. To me that was easy. The Moody Blues were more than another Rock band, they were modern troubadours, story tellers. You couldn't take one song from any of their albums and instantly create a number 1 hit. You had to digest each of their albums and the story within it.

    • @yesman2755
      @yesman2755 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Fabulous analogy Bill. Totally agree with every word. I think FM radio in the USA “got it” more than mainstream radio in UK. Radio 1 were in control by the time of Future Passed and they wouldn’t have had a clue. Even Nights was probably above their understanding at the time. Despite that, the band managed to shift millions of albums. I read an article printed in 1972 in Melody Maker which stated that that their music would last a lifetime. They weren’t wrong there !!

  • @lordsardonicvids

    I can't believe this song is from 1969!! I've been into the Moody's a few years, but I hadn't till now, seen the very obvious message in this song. In the "real" world, the one where we work in, pay bills, take kids to school etc., a song like this one, should not be forgotten. It comes from a different place; it's not of men, it's of spirit. People do not write this kind of music- it is received by a lucky recipient, possibly from providence or whtvr... to the person or persons who are right for it.
    Just today, I read this: "When real music comes to me - the music of the spheres, the music that surpasses understanding - that has nothing to do with me, 'cause I'm just the channel. The joy for me is for it to be given to me, and to transcribe it like a medium... those moments are what I live for." ~John Lennon
    Well, I cannot argue with that. Beautiful video btw. :-)

      @ptrombley444 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Holy crap! I just read what YOU wrote! Really? Remember that chat we just had the other day about cmmonalities in our families & what I wrote you about that odd happening appliances car radio & all that bizarre things that had happened? And you that was what John Lennon said many moons ago? Did you write this before or after our chat? My hair is standing up on my arms soo many goose bumps! Do you not find this sort of spooky in the slightest way? Medium? Wow ! We chatted similar of this! Maybe you got something there!
      ps I planted my sunflower seeds today in a tray bed! It is on my dining room table! Later I will replant when they get big enough so in the yard it will look like a scene full of yellow garden flowers! Hope the black birds stay away! Can't wait until they become flowers so there will be more seeds! BIG Sunflower HUGGSSSS

      @lordsardonicvids 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      EmileBea1
      well there went another good comment reply where did that one go????
      anyway i don't know, that's nothing special i know i said this a while back and then like i said saw what Lennon said about it and that was cool i thought, being as he was a pretty sharp guy about such things. I don't know about bizarre things, exactly, but that's relative term for stuff that doesn't fit neatly in.
      It's "bizarre" if it isn't your norm, but someone else may see that as nothing special. As to me... meh. Much ado about nothing. Know what I think is bizarre? Living! Weirdest damned thing I can now imagine! It makes no sense to me whatsoever. Some people may say this is a dangerous place to be, but recognising the mundane for what it is- mundane, is not so 'popular' a thing.
      Gosh that bothers me alot.
      ha ha ha.
      I blew it on the sunflower. The most important things around here, is for someone to be demeaned, to be berated, to be as inconsiderate as possible to, and to make sure they have as much pain and BS in their life, as possible.
      That someone, is myself, It is amazing what family can do to each other, whereas if others were to try this, would be jailed as terrorist criminals.
      You always hurt the one you love.
      Sure thing.

    • @ptrombley444
      @ptrombley444 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heyy! Did you plant sunflower seeds in the fields?
      As for the video, I an kind of confused!
      Yes we live in a world! You describe what many call "a rat race"! It's like your always robbing Peter to pay Paul!
      I am the 21 first century Mom from the 20th century ! Does that make sense to you?
      The Beatles tokes and more! Some of their song writings was definitely influenced by that! Hmm The Yellow Submarine lyrics come to mind to me for some reason! There always seems to be a story within a story that sometimes makes no sense and other times when you don't try to find the logic of a song it makes perfect sense!
      I wrote a lullaby for my daughter! Wow! I finally got a title for it! "Butterfly Lullaby "! ! I couldn't think of a title all these years! She referred to it as the butterfly song!
      Yes we live in a mondane world! I try to not live in this mundane world through my dreams! Meeting that BF then parting really did a WTF happen to my life cycle!
      My life is like a puzzle that I can't complete! So many missing pieces! And i lost some of them along the way ! Kindness others have taken from me cause I gave! Life to me is about sharing! It's a give & take always! Sometimes people take more than they give! Sometimes some people take all the good and give back the the bad! Maybe they don't know how to or not know any better!
      There is just not enough love in the world to go around! Please DO plant those sunflower seeds!
      ❤ ❤ ❤
      Yes life is so bizarre! It does not have to be so mundane! Doing just one thing different or good that have positive outcome will surprise YOU! The goodness it will bring makes life livable ! Well makes life not so bad!
      My marriage ? Yes I was berated demeaned! As a child sometime it was Like seen & not be heard ! Married life the same except worse! Always wondering did I give too much or not enough! Should he have married me or any woman? What lifestyle is has he hidden? Another woman ? Another lifestyle? Yes some people are very inconsiderate! I thought when you marry you marry for love!
      When did L. O. V. E. letters come to mean Loose Old Values! I Learned not to like the word NO along time ago! It means No opportunities!
      Sometimes we do go through so much BS in life, the ingenious thing to do is to flip it & find the positive possible outcome & follow it through! Sometime you just have to suck it up & learn how to be more considerate of others! Treat them as you want to be treated!
      Your friend Alex that you wrote of & the videos of, showed he genuinely loved people ! He had gentle loving soul! He had a way about life that spilled over to others in a positive way! He shared his positive energy for others hoping that others will pass it on! That is what sharing is!
      Ugh! My system keeps shutting down! Bad storm again!
      Big Phat HUGGSSSS
      ps did you figure out my name yet or locate my brother on the internet? Better best Hugssss! Any better you will be so HUG intoxicated! HUGGGSSsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

      +EmileBea1 Don't mean to butt in or argue or anything but your comment touches on something that should be mentioned from time to time. Do you remember a Jethro Tull album called "Passion Play"? There's a line in it sung by someone who has died that says, to paraphrase 'cause I don't remember the exact words, "I'd give anything for one of those days that didn't matter much at the time". I've never forgotten that idea. Yes, life in the Mundane World sometimes seems pretty crappy but it's still life and beats the hell out of death , as far as we know. The undeniable fact is that we cling to it and we fight for it when it's threatened. It hurts terribly when we lose someone, even a pet, to death. It should never be taken for granted.

    • @ptrombley444
      @ptrombley444 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      standingwave73 I do not know which comment you're referring to:
      If I said anything to offend I do apologize!
      My older brothers were into Beatles & Jethro Tull ! One sounds pretty close to John Lennon the other when I hear sounds like a singer in Dire Straits !
      Sorry to hear about the artist /singer passing!
      I looked at Passion Play part 1 & part 2. (very long I might add...lol) I did not see that comment. but I am very tired maybe I am missing something! but go to Google search & type in
      Azlyrics Jethro Tull "A Passion Play"
      There is a part 1 & part 2
      ps my favorite is Stairway To Heaven! I heard one of my brothers practice it so much I still remember & I know that tune by heart! LOL!
      When you know your time is almost at an end , nothing really mattes anymore. Anyone can see.
      Most of whom all i loved that mattered most are gone. I think every day is special and I am glad for each day. Life is too short to worry about tomorrow. For most it is one day at a time & what good we make of that time is left to life is what will be.
      As for the sunflowers wild cats & black birds got every single last plant. On the upside Lordsardonicvids though he procrastinated on planting the seeds the irony of it all, he finally planted his seeds & they flourished!!!! He lives in dessert Ca & I in PA! I i used to grow a large garden & had great crops for summer & winter months!
      This tread is still open (for now)! Interested to hear your response! Maybe you can elaborate on your previous message. God day!

      That’s not a good comparison. Compare Pinder’s departure to say...Gregg Rolie of Journey...they both were the “soul” of their respective bands

    My wife and I were sitting on the floor of the Hollywood Sportatorium (FL.) early 70's, when the Moodies packed 15.000+ into this cow-palace-rodeo building. The open end of the building was allowing a cool fall breeze through the band. It was a sound techs. nightmare. We had just had a hit off the second joint to pass our way, more were to come, when this part of Threshold entered the crowd. Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas, Graeme Edge, Justin and John began dancing in our heads and the sound techs pulled off something just short of miraculous. A concert and an age I am tripping into at this very moment. You gotta take the journey out and in.......At that point in time I never thought I'd be appreciating it 4 1/2 decades later,
