    Great video! Your commentary on the different trains and history behind the lines is like watching one of those old video complications/documentaries of different railroads in 50s-90s! I also like how 3056’s RS-5T-RRO’s 25 bell still has some life in it to give it the sound it had before whatever happened to it.

    29:23 The RBMN power move is complete and ready to leave the yard with 35 engines from every different railroad, including RBMN, BNSF, UP, Ferromex, NS, SOU, N&W, PRR, BCOL, CN, CP, CSX, GECX, RJ Corman, PRLX, EMDX, ATSF and SP. The power move on the RBMN out of Pittston is symboled PIEN (Pittston to Enola Yard Power Move). PIEN runs out of Pittston Yard and runs along the NS Sunbury Line to the Buffalo Line alongside the Susquehanna River and leaves the Buffalo Line at Harrisburg where the PIEN train gets a new crew before taking the 35-unit power move into Enola Yard to pickup an empty rock train, bring it out of Enola Yard, uncouple at Harrisburg, run around the train, couple onto the tail end and then leave Harrisburg Yard as NS 41C (empty rock train from Harrisburg to Chicago) with the usual 35-engine lashup consisting of American, Canadian, Mexican and lease locomotives. This new train symbol, NS 41C, will be added to the NS Pittsburgh Line in June of 2021. Originating as RBMN train PIEN out of Pittston Yard with 35 engines to Enola Yard, the train will make his way over the Sunbury and Buffalo Lines before crossing Rockville Bridge at Marysville, PA into Enola Yard where it will pickup an empty rock train and send it to Harrisburg as NS J22, uncouple at Harrisburg Yard, run around the train and bring the train from Harrisburg Yard to Chicago, Illinois. In the summer of 2021, this is the new NS symbol added to the US, being NS 41C. 41C's usual power is 35 engines, same as the PIEN train. 41C's power on the front contains American, Mexican, Canadian and leaser power, making this 35-unit consist an epic one for this empty NS 41C rock train that will be made in June of 2021. So Trains21, can you record a video of testing the new symbols of RBMN PIEN, NS J22, and NS 41C? PIEN is a Pittston to Enola power move to get a rock train and take it out of the yard before becoming NS J22, a yard job to run around the train at Harrisburg, and later NS 41C to Chicago, Illinois from Harrisburg Yard. How’s that?

    AC, you are correct. The dash 8's are on their last runs on NS. They are slated for retirement I believe by year's end, if not sooner. They may go back to GE to either become leasers to shortline roads, or a otherwise. This is what I'm hearing in terms of their fate.

And finally NS must be awful short of 4-axle power to be using those big techno toasters as local switching power. Keep those videos coming.

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John.. The local/yard switchers use whatever power comes down on that day's H97 Binghamton/Taylor Turn which is always 2 or 3 road diesels.. The only 4-axle power I've ever seen working on this line (During NS' ownership) is a GP40-2 working a work train.. Canadian Pacific, on the other had did have GP38-2s working local service.. Question seem's like those old EMD two strokes are more common than similar generation four strokes from GE. Is that real of just regional? Follow on..it is easier to maintain the obsolete two strokes and maybe cheaper as well? AND with those older SD's front and rear, are they coordinated simply with two crews and a radio? Who controls the air brakes? At what point did they start having more sophisticated controls where one crew can control multiple units dispersed as typical out west or are they also simply two crews and a radio?

    • @loganbaileysfunwithtrains606
      @loganbaileysfunwithtrains606 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The EMDs just perform better than the old GE’s which is sad for me a GE fan, a lot of the older GE’s are working south of the border, but also GE made their own older equipment obsolete as they developed newer models, EMD however couldn’t keep up with the new development and had issues in their higher horsepower models which hurt the company, but EMD has held the 4 axle market for 50 years and hasn’t built new 4 axles in almost 30 years, shows how good their 4 axle product is

    I may have asked you before, forgive me, but do the letter/number sets on NS trains have any meaning? BNSF trains have Z, Q, and S designations
    Z- high priority intermodal
    Q- international containers
    S- domestic containers

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and No.. It's a little tough to explain depending on where the letter falls in the train symbol.. For example Train i5Z as an Extra 25Z intermodal out of E-Rail in New Jersey.. 25Z is the regular intermodal, the Z designates it as not being the 25Q Atlanta to Memphis (or maybe Kansas City).. If that makes sense.

    @ 30:19 - Interesting string of cars pulled by the RN: a DRGW followed by a MoP. Both are box cars.
    If folks get upset stuck in traffic at crossings vis-a-vis the switching maneuver, wait until precision switching dominates the railroading world. The largest investment by UP of five hundred million dollars to construct the Brazos Yard in my old stomping grounds has been put on hold. The money will be used to implement precision switching and lengthening sidings to hold longer trains.
    Times have changed. In my day on the Houston & Texas Central [SP], the train crew, whether through freight or local, had a crew of 4: engineer, conductor, and 2 brakemen. That was before the introduction of radio communication for the man on the ground.

      Trains21 i forgot where yatesville was. I was thinking of the former D&H WB&E interchange point near planes in which a industry still uses a part of the former ROW as there lead and small yard

    Hi, to me its odd that such heavy power is doing a switch task instead of running heavy freight hundreds of miles down track

      @Trains21  5 ปีที่แล้ว

BTW, my email address is 'menudomail2014@gmail.com'. Also, doesn't look like I'll make out your way this summer :-( Can't get the money together.. I will def make it next year though.

    Why no ditch lights on all the time when in motion?

    • @michael7423

      Charlie Rumsfeld - around where I’m from ditch lights are timed for a period of time whenever the horn is sounded, I think for extra visibility through crossings

      The lights are directional on this locomotive.

    Great video but why use mainline power on weight rated track it seems silly bordering on stupid to me

    If the light rail can't handle the weight of six axil power why not just use lighter locos for the duty?
