- The Lackawanna Avenue overpass in Scranton, PA overlooks the Steamtown Wye which is on the 10-mile hill to/from Clark's Summit which is one mile from the Taylor Yard.. It's my favorite area spot for catching trains and today did not disappoint....

We all love the chortle of ALCO's accelerating with a load on a grade. No other sound like it. I wonder how many years we have left to enjoy that wonderful sound. Great shots. Excellent video AC.

19:44 I’ve caught a handful of these moves over the past few years. The first one was on July 20 2017 when sole powerful train 962 made a U-Turn on the Steamtown Wye to head up to Binghamton, long hood forward.

Every time I watch one of you videos,I learn something new! I have a difficult time (on certain models) being able to differentiate locomotives. The CP headlight info was killer!

21:28 I almost jumped out of joy for no reason when I saw #9108. Ive seen that in Moberly Missouri's Ns yard and just found it cool that we saw the same locomotive.

Most of it comes from being around them.
Another rail system work rule: During the late 70s, Norfolk and Western Railroad trains were limited to the maximum tractive effort of 5 four axle locomotives.

Great video! I really wish I saw the 14R with all the CP units. I think I was out of town that day.
There's a very old Vulcan switcher locomotive, looks similar to a 44 tonner, that I know of. It's red and it's missing one of its engines. It's in an abandoned building and I think last time I checked the building was sealed off. Do you think there's any shred of a chance Steamtown would want it? I tried to contact the railroad who owns the property but they ignored me.
If you would like to make a video on it or the location reply for my email (I don't want to disclose the location publicly)
I'm not sure how I would approach a scenario like yours.. I don't know if Steamtown would want it.

I miss driving down the ally to the main st. of Pittston Junction to see the 26 and never inservice RBMN SD50M 5029 sitting on the wye. I also had no idea of Muller’s beef with North shore, would you happen to know more about that?
Muller has beef with both the PNERR and the North Shore because neither hired him on as their rail carrier on their lines.. PNERR opted for the D-L and Seda Cog the North Shore system.

I only represent his railroad because (it is a cool railroad, I'll give him that, he runs a fine railroad) and that it would be impossible to do a complete documentary of NEPA railroading without including your employer.

You could look this info up online but most of my knowledge comes from years of being around them.

Interested in the dynamic braking rules. Why are they limited, is it because when they generate they create energy into the tracks as well as rheostatic or regenerative power?
Nothing goes to the tracks. It all goes to the heating elements in the roofline.
What determines "light power"? 4 vs. 6 axles? Is 4 axle power still made new for light duty and yard work?
"Light power" is a term to describe a train that only consists of locomotives.. There are still 4-axle locos made for light duty, but not many this day and age.

Dude. Good video and everything but do you ever practice your script before you record the dialorgue? And after you record your vocals it would be a lot easier to cut out and replace your misread lines if you paused between sentences more often. Take these examples:
7:54 "...maybe weeks at the most before it'll be gettin' set in 'bout a quarter mile down the ways there at the-uh Steantiown wye north end of the Steamtown wye." Let me rewrite this for you: (switch scene deleted)
8:26 "...The six hundred and sixty horsepower Electro-Motive Corporation SW1 in-cab switcher number 1901 that was a mouthful has an incredible life story." Let's rewrite this one as well. "...First we find Lehigh Valley number 1901, an EMD SW1 yard switcher powered by a six humdred horsepower General Motors 567 prime mover." Then you continue on with the rather mundane and standard-issue history for a piece of railroad equipment from this era in east coast railroading.
8:34 "...It was built in an astonishingly nineteen thirty-nine." we'll change that to "It was built in nineteen thirty-nine." or even "Number 1901 came off EMD's La Grange assembly line in June of 1939." because there's nothing about the date it was manufactured that's astonishING when you consider production started in December of 1938. If they didn't manufacture the SW1 until 1979 and this one was made in 1939, THAT would be astonishing, and rightly so.
FYI, numbers like 660 are pronounced "six hundred sixty" there is no "and" in the number. It's 660 not 600and60 or 600+60. Also, nobody calls it EMC. I don't care if you're technically correct, just say EMD like every other human being who ever lived. EMC makes enterprise IT equipment, EMD makes locomotives.
