    The DL #414 was owned by my late friend Joe who ran the SRNJ before he passed years ago. He wanted her to go to the DL if he could no longer take care of her.

      Joe Petaccio? He was a great man. Turned the SRNJ into a profitable short line and directed the acquisition of the Canadian MLW m420s. South Jersey will miss him.

      I knew that the #414 came from south Jersey, but I didn't know why.. Thanks for the info.. I have pics of the #414 when she was in Cornell Red Lehigh Valley paint. that'll end up in one of these future videos.

    Another great history video. Thank you for the shout out. All them covered hoppers make me wonder what a hard job it was before when the railroads used boxcars to carry grains. The videos are like gold AC. Excellent as always. I'm heading to Westfield for the day tomorrow if your interested.

    Another great one AC. I'm beginning to fall in love with the sounds of those ALCOS. For some reasons they reminds me of a ship chugging out on the bay. Also here out west we called those BNSF unit grain trains EARTHWORMS because viewed from a distance they look like giant brown worms snaking there way threw the canyon and mountains of the west. And they are heavy when loaded. BNSF usually set up the power in A 4x3x2 formation to get her over the road. Most of that power is for braking, especially going through the Tehachapi mountains in California. I think there might be some EARTHWORM video on TH-cam somewhere. Later my friend.

    Yeah Conrail leader! Wish we had more of Big Blue still around. We have so many brown BNSF hoppers around here that I get bored of them. Also have a lot of the old BN green hoppers used in hauling various things. Those are rather faded and rusty though. I would have loved to see them when they were new in bright cascade green.

      Trains21 so in about 2 and a half weeks I’m going up to the Scranton area and I wanted to plan at least one day to railfan. What would the best time be to see a train or two on the sunbury?

      @@jacklazarski1362 Early in the morning between 5:30 a.m. or so and about 8 a.m... The 11Z and 36T (both southbounds) usually run through there during that time frame.

    Modern system are great, but when they go wrong it's Chaos, we had our Main control center be evacuated after a False alarm, it held up the whole Surban system and a lot of country service, so much for Progress, luckly one of my stations are still operated by a Signal Box/Tower, still using rods and levers (I think it's a 24 frame)

    I didn't know about a complete strcuture to preserve as many histórical spots as posible for such organization, great a complex work; here in México is that we want to consolidate to do a proper preservation on what left of NdeM.

    I live in Europe, in Southwest Britain, and am an ex Permanent Way Railway Engineer. I am commenting on your Observation of the Wheel Flanges. Over here the Rails are actually inclined inwards which matches up with the coning of the Wheels so that the vertical Forces are transmitted vertically down through the Rail, and apart from on Curves, and Transitions where there is Cant Deficiency the Wheel Flange hardly contacts the Side of the Rail Head. I suspect it might be the same over there? Great Video, thanks.

    It would be nice to see the tower up in Alford get refurbished. The structure is still in good shape, but the roof is in bad shape.

    Great Video as always ...question what’s inside the high end Gons at the end of train featuring the CR unit in the lead? Billets rods slabs ..can’t quite tell

      I don't know for sure but I think it may be bundles of thin steel rods.. The kind used in reinforcing steel structures.. Just a guess.

      Ya was not sure think you are right. Not exactly the place you would find slabs. Slabs usually local around mills like Pittsburgh Chicago & the like.

    Great video! Sadly, all the towers north of Scranton (on the Sunbury line) don't receive the same treatment, and are left shells of what they used to be. How did you get access to the eastern Steamtown tower?

      I know what you mean.. I've seen drone videos of other railfans in the area.. I was invited in the tower by a Steamtown employee (volunteer?) named Timothy O'Malley.. He says that there's an effort to get more people to visit the tower so I would email him and ask him when is a good time to come down.. His email address is:
