He was THE greatest trainer. When Vince told the rest of the bodybuilding community to f-off, that he would NOT support steroid use, it was the end of the beginning. Vince was real. Vince was the LAST of the real bodybuilding trainers. There are no more like him.
Ideally...a "bodydrag" curl is a barbell curl with an underhand grip...wider than shoulder with. Keep shoulders and elbows back. The bar should literally slide (drag) up and down the front of the body. When I trained with Vince, I never came up to the neck...I stopped about nipple high...paused and squeezed biceps and than slowly returned bar a hair from very bottom. Always keeping tension on muscle. Vince liked my technique and later preferred it...he showed that he had an open mind.
This man should be legend. To say he was ahead of his time is an understatement, he had insights in the 1960s that are only beginning to be understood today. I will do my best to honor what he developed and taught
the 'Iron Guru' great to see him again! i trained at Vinces gym 1980- 84. you worked out his way,or hit the highway. he was one tough genius Italian and for his weight and age incredibly strong. thanks for posting!do you have more?
Nothing wrong with Gold's and World, but the truth is, many trained there instead of Vince's because the pros relied on steroids, something Vince detested. They were totally impatient to his teachings of a beautiful body through isolation exercises. And his dietary guidelines were murder to the less-disciplined. Those who stayed with him, reaped rewards!!!
TRUE, and hilarious Soon after he put arnie on a diet as many eggs (whole) as you like breakfast 1lb of meat Lunch 1 lb of meat Dinner 1 lb of meat Soon after Arnold won Mr Olympia Guy was a genius, way ahead of his time. Love the way she says "Thank you" at the end. This video alone, just about sums him up. Legend
its amazing how many people do simple exercise wrong i was lucky enough to have a huge Vince Gironda fan show me all the proper techniques when i first started training
@Ccalll1 um I think he knows what hes doing and explaining with this excercise especially since he created this excercise hence "vince's body drag curl"
I still have no idea what she is doing or not doing. It looks like a regular barbell curl to me. I wish there was a video of Vince Gironda doing a demo of a good drag curl vs an incorrect drag curl :-/
Wow!! I don't remember Vince ever being this nice!! When he chewed you out the only way to survive was to give it right back to him. My brother and I trained there in the early 70s. He called us The chicken fuckers from North Carolina". My brother had pretty defined biceps and upper body, and I had big calves from motocross so he mostly left us alone, but I have seen him reduce big guys to tears if they couldn't hang. Vince was sure right about one thing though...Steroids... RIP Vince
In fact Gironda rightly thought that back squats were ok,but only for slim hipped men, otherwise they would pile on pounds in all the wrong places. He also loved hack squats.
Vince Gironda was a good bodybuilder, as well as a good trainer. He was way, way ahead of his time. Now, having said that the way he comes across in some of his literature, as well as what I've heard about him from other people I have to say that there is no excuse for piss poor behavior and being rude to people.
Despite a lot of comments around here.. This guy knows exactly what he's talking about..! I would like such a PT.. Exactly telling you what to at every stage of the exercise.. A real 'no bullshit' fellow.. great!
He once said that Arnold was a fat fuck. His most famous line. Vince Gironda (1918-1997) Vince's Gym 11262 Ventura Boulevard North Hollywood, California 91604
Yes its true. Squats he felt were basically an arse and upper thigh builder...that is heavy back squats...which is true. For chest he much preferred neck press to bench press,as do i...a much better and effective exercise. Bench press is an ego builder.
i agree with Vince, getting up in the morning its hard if you know what i mean XD wood mornings i get that alot.. .. . but yeah vince +1 . u still best trainer and great techniques. rip vince.
The big problem with bodybuilders who haven't been trained by guys like Gironda or Glass - they've all go lousy form. Swinging and bench bumping off the chest. Momentum curls and half squats. It's a right mess today. No wonder they're all getting hurt.
Actually, close grip curls hit the lateral biceps, not wide grip. The only reason the exercise here can be felt in the lateral head is that the biceps are on a stretch from the elbows being pulled back. This could be accomplished much more easily by sitting on an incline bench with dumbells or by leaning against a wall with a barbell. He's trying to avoid the use of the front deltoid, but instead using the rear deltoids and muscles of the upper back. This is a ridiculous exercise, really.
go find a different sport then junior....i found that the people who dislike squating usually are not very good at it...face it Vince had NO legs...he looked down right silly in shorts..and he was very stubburn...that is why all the pros trained at golds and worlds in the 70's and 80's
Arnold lost to Sergio because he just was never as good...his legs after training with Vince were far superior to previously. Vince enhanced the cuts whilst losing none of the size, and without squats. He was not against squats for everybody. He admitted Sergio built great thighs using primarily the squat, but also said that for many people heavy back squats buld upper thigh and glutes, and not mid-lower thigh, which they do.
yeah well ask every IFBB pro about squatting and 99.9% of them will tell you that is how you build legs...vince was a stubburn man who just never got it...that was his down fall and why beside scott and makkaway never produced any champions..just look at vince's legs for an example...the man needed to hit a sqaut rack.....he was a nut case who would never ever take any constructive criticism...he had no clue

"It only hurts for a little while" -- Vince the Pimp!!!
Gironda was awesome! Gotta love it.
the 'Iron Guru' great to see him again!
i trained at Vinces gym 1980- 84.
you worked out his way,or hit the highway.
he was one tough genius Italian and for
his weight and age incredibly strong.
thanks for posting!do you have more?
The original grumpy old man but this guy was awesome. Some of the most timeless training advice around. RIP Vince.
The only people that don't breather are dead people! HAH! This guy's an absolute bad ass!

So many great quotes from Vince.

He reminds me of Mick from Rocky
Legenday Vince Gironda,Damn i wish i was 20 years elder, just to catch him in time was around.
its amazing how many people do simple exercise wrong i was lucky enough to have a huge Vince Gironda fan show me all the proper techniques when i first started training
this one clip has a dozen brilliant soundbites
vince 'the iron guru' gironda was the worlds greatest trainer :)
@Ccalll1 um I think he knows what hes doing and explaining with this excercise especially since he created this excercise hence "vince's body drag curl"
I like how serious he's getting over that 1kg barbell curl.
Vince is awesome. He's like Mickey from Rocky.
This demonstration looks more like a regular barbell curl as the bar does not drag in line with the body.
Great video, upload the rest, priceless info..
I'd love to have him as a trainer !!!!!!!
this guy would totally piss me off if i worked out with him
This is amazing.
"it only hurts for a little while" creepy laugh
Amen to that. I worked for him and he was just a bit rough around the edges. Good guy though, once you knew him.
I still have no idea what she is doing or not doing. It looks like a regular barbell curl to me. I wish there was a video of Vince Gironda doing a demo of a good drag curl vs an incorrect drag curl :-/

Oh man, he was the best...
Vince Gironda was a good bodybuilder, as well as a good trainer. He was way, way ahead of his time.
Now, having said that the way he comes across in some of his literature, as well as what I've heard about him from other people I have to say that there is no excuse for piss poor behavior and being rude to people.
He might have been eccentric, but genius often is...
He's a genius.
doesnt close grip hit the outer head?
Grande Gironda
why does the title say drag curl when the lady is just curling the bar all the way ? did i miss something ?
He explains it at about 1:20 in, he is training the outer head
Despite a lot of comments around here.. This guy knows exactly what he's talking about..! I would like such a PT.. Exactly telling you what to at every stage of the exercise.. A real 'no bullshit' fellow.. great!
Vinny! the King of old school realiuty!
jeff
This is gold. Is this from a video or dvd? Where did you get it? Thanks.
the drag curl works.
lol that's how they say that he is and especially was when he was younger
@itzeyadig so did I !!!! if anyone can shed some light here I would appreciate it
Is there any more to this video?
Vince looks like Parker Reed, with hair.
This, and the lateral 'swing' shoulder exercise, are two of Vince's patented exercises which i just don't like.
why is it important to take care of the right breathing?
He once said that Arnold was a fat fuck. His most famous line.

Sorry Vince, but narrow grip focuses more on the outer/long head of biceps than the inner/short head.
He's totally flicking off the camera.
SLOW DOWN
I think this is not the drag curl, just a wide grip curl.
Yes its true.

I guess "drag" comes from dragging the bar close to the body as he often tells the girl to do.
Look more closely and see why it's not a normal curl
this guy is hilarious
He knew his shit, but I probably would have whacked him for yelling at me.
i see nothing....video doesnt play!
hahahah what a badass

I bet he knows what hes doing and can show people awesome stuff but if he trained me like that id hit him with the bar

@MrQuebec
hahhahahaha you made me laugh
boot camp Gironda
yeah well ask every IFBB pro about squatting and 99.9% of them will tell you that is how you build legs...vince was a stubburn man who just never got it...that was his down fall and why beside scott and makkaway never produced any champions..just look at vince's legs for an example...the man needed to hit a sqaut rack.....he was a nut case who would never ever take any constructive criticism...he had no clue
This is not a drag curl...
i dont get like i ,ummm i think......-i think his technique is a load of crap to be honest.
haha make funny faces like jack lalanne lol
What a dope she never did it right!
2 people have no sense of humor for a good coach.
