Thanks Daryl, I received a Vince Gironda book when i was a kid and remember how comprehensive his movements were and getting back into training will start to take on board these movements...
so are you using the thumbless bulldog grip? I've seen photos of vince using a thumbless grip. Does the thumbless grip put more emphasis on the chest and takes away less tension on the shoulders?
Vince recommended this because the thumb activates too much power in the forearms muscles, which over powers the stimulation of the chest contractibility. By using a thumbless grip allows less strength of the forearms while still providing great leverage to allow full contractibility of the pectorals.
Hi Daryl, how wide should the grip be? The hand positioning on the bar seems similar to one of the variations of the gironda dip? Suppose you bench 135lb, how much weighted should use for this exercise?
For Gironda style the elbows are 90 degrees, for Larry Scott Style the hands are closer in about 26 inches apart with the elbows wide. Start with a light weight to learn the motion, then progress to whatever weight you can handle for 8 sets of 8 reps
Thank you sir for the great demonstration & clear explanation. I was wondering, if one has to arch the back whilst pressing as we do with the regular bench press, retracting the scapula. Thank you
Elbows at 90 degrees, that will determine the correct hand position when doing Vince's version, if you are doing Larry Scott's version with hands turned in slightly, the hand position is slightly past shoulder width to allow full range of motion
I have been performing this exercise for 35 years and never had an injury. It's not about how much you can lift it's all about technique and how much the muscle can withstand. Muscle tension dictates the movement, if that means the muscle can only withstand 50 pounds or 300 pounds that is up to the development of the muscle and the amount of fibers available to support the work load. I have done the neck press with 250 pounds with no problem, which is not a lot for many folks, but for me it is plenty because I get 100% maximum contractibility of my pectorals, which is what it is all about. There is no cheating with other muscle groups to assist in the movement, it's primarily all pectorals.
it's not for everyone. You have to perform exercises that work for your own body. I have been performing this exercise for 37 years and have never had a shoulder issue. It works for me that is why I do it. Not all exercises work for all people. Vince would even say that.
OO MYYY GOOOD I JUST DID THIS WORKOUT YESTERDAY. MY CHEST IS SORE AS HELLL THANK YOU SO MUCH. VINCE WAS WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME

Thank you for your support.
Thanks Darly. Now I know what I did wrong. Not flaring elbows out and turning my palms outward. Definitely get it right for Monday's workout! 💪
Great content Daryl, thanks!
Every trainer says this is dangerous for the shoulder. What do you think?
Keep the weight light....
cap just remove your ego you don’t wanna do 225 neck press i think a good weight (125 good clean reps no more then 145
The chest bump on this today was crazy man 😍😍😍
Hi Daryl. Although i agree with the neck press being a great pec exercise. I did however injure my deltoid very badly doing it.
It's not for everyone. Vince always said that if the exercise doesn't work or hurts in any way to avoid it.
Thanks. Can you do a dumbbell version?
I suppose you can, but it won't be as effective.
Would a parallel adjustable grip multibar work for this?

That's an amazing explanation. I only have dumbbells at the moment but I will try to add some of this style pressing in with lighter weights.
This exercise must use a barbell, dumbbells don't let your elbows move back away. you'd have better luck with pushups

can you have your legs down like a regular bench press? my lower back hurts when I get my legs up
Yes you can. Just keep the back pressed against the bench.
Thank you sir for the great demonstration & clear explanation. I was wondering, if one has to arch the back whilst pressing as we do with the regular bench press, retracting the scapula.
Thank you
No arching on this style of pressing.
@@DarylConant Thank you sir!
Thank you
How wide on the bar should your hands go? Slightly wider than shoulder width or further?

In Vince's book "Unleashing The Wild Physique" he uses a collar wide grip - why the modification here?
Great way to hurt your shoulders - speaking from experience.
Vince Gironda was a genius but if you are going to do this do it really really light.

Also, improper technique will result in injury. Not all exercises are for everyone. This one works well for me and always has.
Tell me about your experience with this exercise and how you hurt your shoulders
@@Yeomannn Strained my left shoulder badly.
Driving straight to snap city!
No thanks re: elbows out
My shoulders hurt just watching .....They work but they're shoulder wreckers.

🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Don't so this, it is dangerous
If you actually use light weight and your rotary cuff muscles are strong then no, it's actually safe. I do these on the floor.
